I've played at Riverbend a number of times over the last few years. I absolutely love the course and while it's not terribly difficult it is absolutely enjoyable to play. The staff and in particular Garrett and Sam are some of the nicest and most polite individuals I've had the experience of meeting. Both of them are beyond helpful with course knowledge and hints, Garret specifically is great at understanding and helping with specific swing issues myself or others may have. I can't recommend playing Riverbend enough and while it does get busy on the nicer weather days, the pace of play is actually pretty good. This spring in particular the course is in FANTASTIC shape 2026, but I honestly can't remember a time when it wasn't. Highly recommend playing Riverbend whenever possible. read more

Great course except the sand traps. I give them a Zero. They smooth over the top of hardpan. Hit out of a trap today and hit a frigging Rock. No sand just dirt. Shame on them for not upholding fair playing conditions. Paying $50 as a senior only to have half the challenge of sand traps unplayable. Get your Act together Riverbend. Buy some cheap sand and give us a course worthy of $50. It's been this way for 4 years now. Can't believe you're still blind to a fair course. Bye Bye.. read more

I love this public muni-course! The course is kept in good shape except a few tee boxes where it needs some extra attention. Greens are nice and thank you for adding sand in the bunkers in 2023! Best of all, their green fee is kept affordable unlike other courses. read more

This past month I started to take lessons here from the PGA pro Mr. Marti O'Neill. If anyone reading this review wants to take lessons I would highly highly recommend Marti. He is an amazing instructor who is friendly, knowledgeable and overall very positive. He has been an instructor for many years and after 2 - 30 minute sessions he has fixed my swing. I used to shoot 110-120, always depressed and never fulfilled after leaving the golf course. Now I am shooting in the mid 90s, have a lot of confidence in my swing, no longer depressed and I now know what exactly I am doing wrong when I shank the ball. Also I love this golf course and the staff working here. I have never had a problem with booking tee times and the staff have always been considerate and friendly. They have a chipping area, putting green and a driving range which has just been updated. read more

Riverbend is a nice course, but the marshall is rude, insulting and obnoxious. Usually small violations of golf etiquette are handled with humor, professionalism and courtesy. This has been my experience at every other golf course, except Riverbend. It will be a long time before I and my friends return. read more

Over the years I have spent a lot of money at the Riverbend golf complex. Today I made a mistake and booked myself as a single online instead of a foursome. I have done this before at other courses but never have I been treated in a way that caused me the maximum amount of embarrassment the maximum amount of humiliation and the maximum amount of frustration. There was zero effort by the young man at the front desk nothing but "too bad we are booked for the day". Riverbend isn't for everybody, but it suits my wife and myself perfectly. We're "Super Seniors" and my wife loves the Purple "Super" forward tee at 4435 yds. I play the Red at 5514 yd. Water in play on a few holes, but generally a pretty forgiving course. The challenge for longer hitters is keeping it in the fairways or you could have tree problems. Very walkable. Can play slow as it's a very popular course. Staff is always courteous. Course is usually in very good condition. Can't comment on playing from back tees. read more

For the most part this course is in ok shape but some wet areas on the fairways were present , not unusual of course for April, some greens however with standing water was really a disappointment especially paying 50 $ for a round. Bunkers are in poor shape with little sand but a lot of weeds. Of note, you can't buy one beer to go, the Half Lion brew pub only sells 6pack to go. read more

Played today and was pretty disappointed. I learned to play at Riverbend almost 30 years ago, playing over 100 rounds there over the years. It was always my favorite golf course to play and have fun at. I hadn't played there in quite some time because I moved to Olympia, but today I popped on to play 9 holes in the evening. I started out with smiles and great memories from rounds past , but after I got going, I discovered it isn't what is used to be, not even close. First the good: Staff was great. Fairways are firm and in pretty good shape. Layout is still really fun and has great potential for all levels. Now the bad and really, really bad" Greens were still healing from being punched. It is mid May, why so late? Every other golf course I've played in the last month has recovered their greens from the spring punching, these seemed like they just punched them a week ago (or if longer, they are taking way too long to heal). They were exceedingly slow and bumpy. Tee boxes were terrible on several holes, especially the two par 3s on the back. They had more dirt than grass. I'm not exaggerating, no grass in the hitting area with very uneven round and holes everywhere. Honestly it is embarrassing how much they have let it get away from them. The "sand" in the bunkers is literally non-existent. I hit out of a greenside bunker on 15 and it it was 100% packed dirt! It is so frustrating to hit a shot over the green because there is no sand in the bunker. You have no chance of saving par without a very unconventional chip shot that no one ever practices because we expect sand to be in a sand trap. With all the money they made selling the par 3 across the street and with golf being exceeding popular right now, you would think they would have the $ to do the simplest things like grow grass, and put sand in a bunker. How are they going to expect to host the Riverbend amateur and other big events with the course in this condition? I was going to sign up but not this year. read more

Called and booked a round for 2/5 for 2 at 2:06 riding. Show up and am told cannot rent cart after 1:30 in the middle of the day which is ridiculous, keep in mind beginning of February wet and cold, pace of play was insanely slow, 2 hours 24 mins and waiting on hole 7 still, finally just left. Not worth the $100 spent and won't be back. The kid up front seemed to just want to go home. I've played here hundreds of times and it keeps getting worse. read more

Personally I love this place....keep in mind that I'm not a great golfer (I shoot 90-100)...but for beginners it's great because it's relatively flat, balls are easy to find because theres no brush under the trees (they're cleared out), and greens fees are not too expensive. My husband is a scratch golfer and he says it has a big men's club. They offer a ladies night for women interested in learning golf in a relaxed setting....it's 2 hours of instruction that includes time on the putting green and driving range. Josh I. is an excellent instructor with reasonable rates if you're looking for 1-on-1 instruction or group lessons, he does both. He has a great sense of humor and makes golf lessons fun. The restaurant on site recently changed and I haven't tried the new one yet but the menu looks really good. read more

Decent option for a round of golf. The course layout has a little something for all skill levels. A fair amount of short, straight par 4's for beginners; a few well-placed doglegs, drives over water, and some tricky greens for more advanced players. The course was kept up fairly well. Comparable to West Seattle's landscaping management. It's the type of course where you can score really well if your game is halfway on, but can lose a lot of shots very quickly if misfiring. Not a particularly long course. I think a little over 6800 yards. And driver is possible on the majority of holes. Not a lot of course management is particularly needed. Driver + 9-iron/wedge on a lot of par 4's. And you're not going to get much spin on the greens. The things that I didn't like: Dear Riverbend: PUT SOME FREAKIN' WATER JUGS ON YOUR COURSE. There is ZERO water on the course to drink, unless you stock up with their bottled water at the clubhouse. Ridiculous. By the time I finished the front 9, I just wanted water and nothing else. So, be prepared and bring a thermos filled with water. I've played the shittiest of the shit golf courses before, and they even had water jugs. Also, they stopped serving food and beer at 2pm!! On the weekend! We had a 1:40 tee time, saw the drink cart roll by the #1 tee and figured we'd see them plenty of times to get a beer on the course. Nope, never saw her again. Finished the front 9, and the food grill and drink carts were completely closed. Oh, you were hungry? Too bad. Wanted a Saturday afternoon golf beer? Shit outta luck. 2 o'clock on a weekend?!??! Are you kidding me?? So be sure to eat beforehand if you have a tee time around lunch, or bring a snack if you tend to get hungry after noon. Oh, and stop by the store and pack a few beers into your golf bag if you want to have some suds on the course. Completely asinine. I liked this option for a weekend golf outing until the no food + beer fiasco hit, and severely docked my interest in possible future rounds. There will be many other courses I'll play before returning here. But if someone suggested a round at Riverbend, I wouldn't say "no". I'd just come prepared...... like a camping trip. Where do I begin ... Oh yes.. I'm giving this place 5 stars and I HATE GOLF! Here's a brief story: I need to learn how to play golf because my industry has a lot of golfing events and my manager thought it would be really beneficial for me to learn the sport. I agree - it would be - but I am 26 and have never had ANY interest in the sport. Not watching, not playing, not even mini golf! Now we get to Riverbend. It's great! I was given a lot of information about golf instructors here too. Josh, one of them, is just awesome! In just 4 lessons I went from never holding a driver to smashing the ball 190+ yards. I learned so much and enjoyed the course, the driving range, the putting green, etc. I couldn't have asked for a better experience and everyone that works there is friendly and helpful. I'll definitely be going back to practice my game here. (Oh and the views of Mt. Rainier from the course aren't bad either!) read more

Played here yesterday. The course is definitely a "locals paradise." Everyone seemed to know everyone else. The proshop was tiny but that's not really a big deal. Just don't expect to come and buy a bunch of merchandise. We played the black tees, because the course rated as pretty easy, and it played that way. Shot 75 after a month of not playing at all. Course was in pretty okay shape. Not much ground under repair, fairways and rough was in good shape. The greens look like they were punched two, maybe three weeks ago but have started healing. The biggest on course issues were the bunkers, they were very firm and had very little sand in them. For the money I would definitely play here again. Having recently moved to this area I would be interested in joining a men's club but didn't see any paperwork about it anywhere at the course. read more

Course was in decent shape, and the greens were better then I expected. Big thing here is the value, you can often get a 18 round for around $20. Causal course with laid back staff. If you are looking for fair prices and unpretentious people this is your course. The buddy and I brought our wifes out for a round with carts and had a great time. Nice open fairways and easy greens. The ladies played well and it was a good time. Then we enjoyed a couple beverages with the nachos and curry fries on Mick's patio to cap off the evening, not too shabby for some hungry buzzed 'grown ups'. I was not a huge fan of this place although for the price I couldnt refuse to give this place a shot. Apparently this is where everyone goes to golf around this area which clutters up the course. The fairways werent the best in my opinion. Id give it 6/10 for condition. The putting green was in decent shape. The golfers that were around us were probably one of the worst I've had to play around. No one was yelling Fore and the group behind us were constantly hitting into us. They must not have known golf etiquette because the whole course was backed up and we couldn't really go anywhere. I'll eventually give this place another shot hoping my experience is slightly better. read more

Riverbend in Kent, WA is a pretty nice course, and especially for the price! I played on a Thursday afternoon. The tee time was at 2:15, and was charged $20 for 18 holes, I thought that was a bargain! My group only had 3 members for this day, so we were paired up with a funny old man named Jesse! The guy thought we all were going to drive it 300 yards, but soon after our first shots, his perception was incorrect and we all joked about it :-D Holes 5 and 6 had some major construction going on, and were using temporary tee boxes and greens, which sucked. A ton! The greens were full of sand, and the ball would bounce like mad on those ones. Other than that, I've got no real complaints about it. The fairways were kept in decent condition, but not the best. And now I will tell you a nice little story about Hole 16, a 160yd par 3. I hit my 5-iron off the tee box, landed about 3 feet from the hole, and drilled it in for a birdie! tweet tweet! read more

I would say the par 3 is a fun little course for beginners. I have been golfing for a long time and took my really good friend who just learned how to golf and she had so much fun playing. I do want to try the 18-hole to see what it is like. I didn't like how are the grounds were. The balls don't stick they bounce, and they move fast. Just an example I could barely stick my tee in the ground when I went to tee off. JEEZ! My only other complaint is at the beginning of our round the service providers made it seem like we needed to rush. IT'S A PAR 3! If the sign says good for beginners and children they need to lay off a little so we can enjoy our golf game. We started out rushing and I felt really bad because it was my friends first time and she was doing really well but I didn't want to fall behind and then we ended up waiting for the group ahead of us who was taking their sweet time before they would tee off each hole. It was a bit frustrating. I will still go back because it is a good place to start the year at and I have a few friends learning to play so it is a fun course for beginners. read more

This course is in fairly good shape, but that is where the good ends. Played this course starting at 1:00PM on a weekday on a fairly hot day this week. The restaurant has been closed down and there is no golf cart traveling the course with cold drinks. Secondly, after a 5 plus hour round we never saw a marshall on the course. We could see holes ahead of us with absolutely no one on them. One of us in our foursome went to the clubhouse at the turn and complained about it and they told Him that there was a marshall out there. That was a lie. He got so mad that He left the course after playing just 10 holes. I will never play this course again. It was a lousy experience. They used to have a 9 hole par 3 course across the street. They shut that down and are now building condos on the property. I wouldn't be surprised to see that also happen to the main course. read more

This is not an elite course like Chamber or Newcastle. But for your neighborhood hacker course this is my favorite. Conditions usually good but doesn't dry out after a rainy day. So it can be muddy with lots of plugged balls. Lots of hackers here, I got hit by a ball before and even have a hacker walked to my hole and hit my ball. I had to chase him down and yell at him. I played with a grandma and she almost got hit and she walked to the ball and stomped on it until it disappear. Too funny. Just your friendly neighborhood course. Oh, they allow 5somes and once I was stuck behind a 6some. That group just grew and grew. After 5 1/2 holes only got to 16th hole, I just quit. Don't expect etiquette. My last round, when I got set to hit my ball, the guy I played with would start scooting right behind me at my line of sight in the tee box. I should be thrilled that he admired my swing to get in so close to watch me. So many stories from Riverbend. At the end, staff is friendly and laid back. read more
