I have walked the trails near the farm and floated past it in inner tubes, but tonight I finally spent a little time there. A small eclectic place that grows produce and teaches classes to help you grow your own. I'm sold- will be following them more closely and taking some classes to step up my own gardening skills But tonight was all about their own farm to table cultivEAT event. After some shaky weather this week, it was a gorgeous evening. You walk in a this narrow path thru flower gardens and trees to a quaint lawn set up with three large family style tables. Just a beautiful setting along the Truckee River We walked in a picked up a glass of prosecco and wandered around the different gardens and art pieces while Chef Estes from Campo and Chef Christensen from SUP were preparing the dinner. While a band played in the corner Coffeebar and Sapphire served nice choices of wines with each course All the ingredients were grown locally. I get the veggies and fruits from area farmers, but the tilapia was incredible from Hungry Mother Organics This is one of those small places doing big this things. I hope they have more events in the future like this. Go out and see what they are all about!!!

I think I need to update my review from 14 years ago!!!!…read more I stand by my original post: How wonderful to have a real grocery store that specializes in local and organic products. Much of the produce is locally grown, or locally adjacent (AKA California) OK, Bananas do not grow in the Great Basin. The origin of the produce is identified. They work with local farmers, bakeries, and other local businesses for the food and non-food items. They no longer have the upstairs restaurant but they do have a kitchen and make ready to go items. I love picking up a fresh salad (some with meat some purely vegan/vegetarian) , a yummy very generously filled wrap, house made cookies and other delectable treats. They have a large selection of locally produced meats. Lots of organic canned goods, dairy and non-dairy items . . . the list goes on. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. Memberships are available (20$/year) with a once a month 10% off of your total purchase. You do NOT need a membership to shop here. It's small and a bit cramped but there is a lot of good stuff there. It's clean and friendly and completely locally owned.

So when lunch break came around I knew exactly where I was headed, Great Basin Co-op! I enjoyed a nice brisk walk in an autumn filled day. When I entered the store I was warming greeted by staff and by an organic clean smell. I really wanted their fresh spring rolls but they did not have those that day so I chose fresh rolled salmon made with wild caught salmon. It did not disappoint! Will I be back? Absolutely! So much fresh and organic choices! They also have plenty of seating indoor or outdoor. Thanks Great Basin Co-op!

Every time my Mom would bring me to the Butcher Shop it was like the Butchers never saw a kid before and I was VIP from the moment we walked in the door. I was given samples and treated as a tiny meat king! Here I am, many many many years later and Butcher Boy makes me feel like a kid again. These guys seem like the happiest people in all the land. Disneyland?? Nah Man, It's Butcher Boy, the family name is Jolly and it damn well shows!! It's quality each and every time. When people get me gifts my only suggestion is a gift card from Butcher Boy. I am a huge fan if you can't tell. They have never done me wrong and yet I know that they would make a wrong right immediately, cuz that's how the Jolly Family rolls. They know their stuff and they know the local farms. You are doing yourself a great disservice by not adding Butcher Boy to your Grocery Trip Routine weekly.

I would recommend the jalapeño bacon and the mesquite bacon both thick and very tasty. Now I'm a bacon guy and this is the best tasting I have found. They offer suggestions and cooking advice. Beautifully laid out. Call for times as they are different around holidays. Their website provides a plethora of information. I would highly recommend, it is worth the price you'll pay for excellent provisions.

Their team recently welcomed our staff for a tour of their headquarters, and it was such a treat to see how much care goes into what they make. Every piece is handcrafted by their small local team, and you can feel the pride they take in their work. We also got to taste their seasonal Key Lime Pie Bonbon, which was incredible. On top of the tour, Dorinda's donated several huge bags of pretzels for our clients and staff to enjoy. Dorinda's has also participated in our But First, Dessert Gala every year from 2022 through 2025 and is a three-time winner of our Best Dessert Award, which says a lot because the competition is always strong. We are grateful to have Dorinda's as a neighbor, a partner, and a local business that genuinely shows up for the community. Highly recommend supporting this amazing local business and community supporter!

I hadn't yet had a chance to try their chocolate, and this was an amazing opportunity to not only try a wide variety (mint meltaway, peanut butter cup, espresso bean, chocolate pretzel), but to also make some by hand! Visitors were allowed back into the kitchen, where we washed hands and donned gloves, and were then given a tutorial in how to dip and decorate dark chocolate salted caramels. Mine were not too bad (I'll keep my day job), but they absolutely tasted delicious. All of the chocolates had a very fresh and distinctly non-mass-produced taste. Dorinda's clearly offers high-quality candies, while also coming up with some amazing flavors like the rice crispies and the strawberry balsamic. (I got to taste the actual olive oil used for this, and I will have to pick some up next time I'm in Truckee). The biggest surprise was their cherry cordial. Cherries are my top 2 favorite chocolates, and these are absolutely the best I've had (better than See's, Godiva, etc.). Perfect blend of dark chocolate, tart maraschino cherry, liquid center, and the bit of fondant icing...and noticeably freshly made. Thank you Dorinda's for the opportunity to discover your chocolates and to get a glimpse into the magic behind these delicious candies. TIP: You can also pre-order and pick up your Frost Giant Creamery (small batch, locally sourced, made from scratch) ice cream here. I kept hearing everyone say, "Wow, that's good!" after tasting their Nevada Gold sample.

They were very helpful in choosing what to order! The bison comes from their ranch in Wyoming, the owners brother runs the ranch! The elk comes from a group of family farms they have been doing business with for over 40 years in New Zealand. (Wow!) And the in house ground beef is mostly Niman ranch and Creekstone farms. I don't think you will find a better burger in Reno! We sat inside on their bar stool seating, but there's lots of other seating available outside! The inside has a very modern and elegant feel! Sometimes a thick, juicy burger is just what you want. You won't find a puny smashed patty here. Only delicious, perfectly cooked, thick patties. The extra $6 to make it a double is totally worth it. The chicken was still very moist while maintaining a crispy exterior. Great choice for your butchery needs, but also a great place to grab some very tasty lunch!

What a beautiful and quaint venue with both inside and outside space. Located inside the Rancho San Rafael Park and bordering the Ranch House grounds is the Wilbur D. May Arboretum. There are multiple rooms with a kitchen and bar area. I noticed there was an upstairs available too. I was informed that the venue was inexpensive. If you want to have a sit-down meal the space is limited. The weather was nice which meant a lot of people took advantage and were seated outside in the courtyard. The full house not including the kitchen is $90.00 an hour with a two-hour minimum and a maximum of 150 people along with a $500 cleaning deposit which is refundable.
