We recently held a Celebration of Life here for our dear friend, and it was absolutely the perfect venue. So many attendees told me how peaceful, beautiful, and welcoming the space felt. They arrived prepared to be surrounded by heartache and loss, but once there, it helped shift the mood from grief to gratitude. Our friend loved this place, and it felt deeply meaningful to honor her in a setting that reflected her spirit. I want to personally thank Iris, who helped me coordinate. She was so kind, attentive, and accommodating--making sure we had everything we needed and being available throughout the process. Her support made a big difference. River School Farm was the perfect venue for an intimate wedding with our closest family and friends this fall. Close to the Truckee River, tucked in a little pocket of Reno by Mayberry Park, we couldn't have asked for a spot that felt as private and serene. We wanted our day to feel like a slightly fancy-outdoorsy family reunion and knew this spot would be perfect when we visited it in the spring. By the fall, the greenery around the venue had filled in, making the area (and all our photos) extra beautiful. The available space can be set up in many different layouts. The ceremony area easily fit our guest list of 40, with room to spare. Then, it doubled as an area for games and later a bit of casual dancing by just moving a few chairs. We loved having a few different but connected areas for guests to spend time together. The owners were so helpful explaining everything about the venue. I have walked the trails near the farm and floated past it in inner tubes, but tonight I finally spent a little time there. A small eclectic place that grows produce and teaches classes to help you grow your own. I'm sold- will be following them more closely and taking some classes to step up my own gardening skills But tonight was all about their own farm to table cultivEAT event. After some shaky weather this week, it was a gorgeous evening. You walk in a this narrow path thru flower gardens and trees to a quaint lawn set up with three large family style tables. Just a beautiful setting along the Truckee River We walked in a picked up a glass of prosecco and wandered around the different gardens and art pieces while Chef Estes from Campo and Chef Christensen from SUP were preparing the dinner. While a band played in the corner Coffeebar and Sapphire served nice choices of wines with each course All the ingredients were grown locally. I get the veggies and fruits from area farmers, but the tilapia was incredible from Hungry Mother Organics This is one of those small places doing big this things. I hope they have more events in the future like this. Go out and see what they are all about!!! read more

One of my best friends recently got married here. The River School Farm is such a beautiful venue. I have nothing but high praise for them. This gem of a place is nestled next to the Truckee river, With beautiful gardens throughout. There is a bridge that connects over the river to a neighborhood and people frequently walk over the bridge. It isn't drivable, but absolutely safe to walk, run, ride bikes. The house that is closest to the bridge is actually an air B and B and is gorgeous. If you're planning a wedding at the River School Farm, I highly recommend staying there the day before and day of the wedding. The wedding I attended had about 100 guests and it accommodated that amount very well. I don't think you could go much more than 125-150 max. There is an area that has a trellis with grape vines that is perfect for the ceremony area and you can bring flowers in, but honestly it's so beautiful, it's not necessary. You also get to bring in your catering and bar so it can be very cost effective if you're on a budget. If you're looking for a hidden gem in Reno that will wow your friends and family, do yourself a favor and check out the River School Farm. You won't be disappointed! read more

Situated in the very best spot on the Truckee River, The Riverschool is an amazing place unknown to nearly everyone. I only learned about it when my organic foods friend took me to see the place. Whether you want to purchase newly laid chicken eggs ($4 per dozen), or goose eggs when they have them, you'll notice these come in assorted colors of teal, brown, tan or white. I don't have the stomach for it, but you can also purchase and slaughter your very own chicken or goose right there on the property, and get coached in the technique of it all. Reno is extremely lucky to have such a unique place. Locally grown vegetables are available once a week from the Reno Cooperative growers though you have to either sign up for a weekly box, or take your chances on leftovers, or you can attend one of their many outdoor classes on a variety of subjects. Kids are welcome. When you drive up (print a map the first time you go), the first thing you'll notice are the chickens running freely around the property (gorgeous creatures they are too!). Employees live in small, earth-friendly homes located right there on the property, and Tom, the owner, is frequently around to answer questions. He's a master gardner too. This is a friendly, family atmosphere. They hold potlucks featuring organic and local foods. In spring and summer Riverschool offers Organic Gardening and Organic Micro-Farming classes. The schedule is listed on their website. One of the best things to do here is just sit by the river. The school is located at a bend in the river and no structure is built to obscure the beauty of the river from the Riverschool's riverbank. What's most unusual about the Riverschool is that making money isn't the main objective. This is definitely an alternative/green lifestyle sort of place and that philosphy permeates everything they do. A recent event was held for turning out the lights at 8PM and that's sort of typical. With summer nearly here, they'll be holding lots of free and low cost ($10 donation) events, so keep an eye on this place. read more

I've learned SO much here, and met SO many wonderful, real people here. It's a beautiful place along the banks of the Truckee River, to stroll around, see the beautiful flower & vegetable gardens & metal sculptures. There is a gorgeous little meadow available for weddings, parties and events, not to mention a cute studio, for dance and other classes. It's a condensed course in learning about sustainable farming and living practices. River School Farm has definitely changed my life here in Reno, for the better. Check it out sometime! read more

River School Farm was our wedding venue on 10/7/2017 and we absolutely loved it. Tom and Iris were amazing to work with and allow you to set up the grounds however you want. They have an awesome dance floor area (we didn't rent a floor) with a bunch of party lights and they stock a firepit with wood right next to it. The grounds are huge with a bunch of space. RSF is right on the river and our pictures are perfect! River School Farm makes the venue portion of a wedding stressless. We cannot say enough great things. Definitely would recommend to anyone who wants an outdoor wedding. read more

I'm writing this review based solely as a wedding venue as I have not patronized it for its other services. I attended 2 weddings here this year, one in June, and one last night. Both times I was very impressed and felt it offered a wholly unique experience that seemed like an escape from town even though it's just on the outskirts of Reno. The two ceremonies I attended were held in separate areas of the farm, but I thought both worked out really well and both utilized the area's beautiful Truckee river backdrop. There is a large grass area which both weddings used to host guests for dinner and a large open dirt area which becomes the dance floor later in the night. Separating the two is a stage which was useful to make speeches. The only drawbacks that I would cite were that both weddings were interrupted by loud passing train horns at some point (not to the point that anything was ruined, but still...) and there's only one bathroom which can make for a long wait. Also, bring a jacket as it cools off quickly after dark and be prepared to leave with dusty/dirty shoes if you plan to dance! Overall this is a very picturesque, unique, and charming venue that I would recommend you check out if you are looking for an outdoor wedding during the warmer months. read more

Attended a fermentation class this weekend and was wholly impressed with the knowledge of Jacob, the instructor. He was patient with all our questions and encouraging us all to not be discouraged when our yogurt might not be so yogurty, or our sauerkraut to be not quite right. Patience is the order of the day with fermentation it seems. Making homemade sour dough breads, tangy yogurts, and fermented veggies all covered in a single class. Couldn't have been better than that....but.. then there's the River School Farm itself and its owner, Tom Stille - both a Reno treasure. read more

beautiful space, great people, and tons of events. some of the events are free and some have a cost involved. there seems to be a lot of things going on here so i have to visit again to soak it all in and learn more about this place. the review by Lisa R. has much more information than i do and i actually learned more from her review than my first experience there in person. my experience was of a great potluck dinner followed by dancing in the pavilion; though i didnt dance that night the food was great!! read more
