To tell the tooth, I thought River Run couldn't get any better, but I was wrong! I love this location in Short Pump so much more than the Richmond, Shrader Road office! I definitely will "root" for this dental practice! It's in an office building behind the Lidl, on the 2nd floor. The patient lounge is just as aesthetically pleasing as their sister office. Cool hues, relaxing seating and a generous beverage/snack bar. I was ushered in and went through the standard Covid protocols before being led back to see my "new to me" dental hygienist. Let me just rave about Christine... she's not only gentle and professional, but she's charming and personable as well! A winning combo to set even the most trepidatious patient at ease. She offered their extensive comfort menu, I declined as I weirdly love going to the dentist and getting my teeth cleaned!! I actually look forward to it! Christine was awesome and we spoke like we were fast friends. I "crown" her Queen Hygienist! I had a small pinpoint cavity which needed to be filled and Dr. Wheeler graciously fit in to her busy schedule. Although I had to wait a bit (my choice), I didn't mind because it saved me from making a second trip. So convenient as I didn't want to make another appointment during to Covid. Dr. Wheeler hummed as she quickly filled my cavity and the only uncomfortable part of the process was the rubber dam they use for safety protocol. I've referred many family and friends to River Run, they even give you a referral reward! Their attention to detail is not acci-dental, no, they prepare their patients for excellent care! I've been to River Run Short Pump twice now, after having been to the same dentist for my entire life before I moved to Richmond. I was definitely nervous to come to a new dental practice but so many of my colleagues had recommended River Run so I gave it a try and was immediately impressed. I've only been here for my dental cleanings and standard x-rays, so I can't speak to the quality of care for any more involved procedures, however, I have been so comfortable at both of my dental cleanings here. The comfort menu is definitely a comfort indeed - they have blankets, neck pillows, essential, oils, lip balm, and the patient chairs have a massaging feature. I've only opted for the essential oils and lip balm before, but they certainly help with the comfort during the dental cleanings. Most importantly the dental hygienists who have treated me here have been so kind and gentle with my treatment. Today I saw Betty and I unfortunately can't remember the name of who I saw last time, but both of them were wonderful. I have generally always had sensitive gums and dental cleanings are typically uncomfortable for me, but the dental hygienists here have done everything to ensure the most comfort for me and have been careful not to rush my cleanings. I had a very bad experience, and I regretted that I went there. I called to schedule for cleaning appointment and I provided my information, insurance card, and plan coverage information. when I went to the front desk, and confirmed that my insurance card would cover all the services they provide. Then, after cleaning my teeth, they advised me to schedule for the braces with their other branch, and I did not hear back from them. One month later, I received a bill of $75 for missing the appointment I was not told about. I have no idea that I got scheduled, did not get and notice or message about the appointment. then, a month later, I received a bill for $311 they said my insurance did not cover. Is it logical to check my insurance coverage after more than 3 months? I must be told that before the treatment and get my acceptance for an extra payment for no reason, because I can go to another dentist instead of paying out of my pocket. read more

Botched my retainer creation 4 times. Had me come back time and time again for it to still not fit. Even sent me to a different office to try again and charged me for some of those visits even though it was no fault of my own and cost me hours of my time. Was almost always a new person working the front desk or doing my cleaning or scans. Obviously have issues retaining employees. They actually just sent my partner an email about just how many open positions they have! We aren't even patients anymore, they must be desperate. Incorrectly charged me for my retainers that they messed up, had to speak with a manager on the phone multiple times and chase her down to solve it. Waste of money and time. They finally got one of the two retainers correct (got the other one done first try at an ortho) and it's already wearing down a few months in, whereas the other one I got done has no scratches. I really liked the look of the office and the hygienists, and they give you a bunch of free swag up front (there's tons of those thermos tumblers at goodwill that were theirs, just get one there) but don't be fooled. There are some serious behind-the-scenes issues and shadiness going on. Should queue you off because of how quickly you can get an appointment as a new patient (they can't retain them either). Wait to go to a more established and experienced office, it was worth it for me and I love my new dentist who actually spent time with me and took my concerns seriously, and didn't just pedal whitening and Invisalign treatments to patients who don't need them. read more

She is so friendly and makes me feel at ease. She's super knowledgable and was able to address all of my concerns and even packed up a goodie bag of samples for me to try different products to find what works for me before I buy anything. I typically dread my annual medical appointments, but actually look forward to my visits to River Run. Everyone is professional and friendly. Care is compassionate and I feel like they really care about me as an individual. Plus, all of the little luxuries make me feel like Beyoncé! It's truly VIP service without the VIP price tag. I've put off going to the dentist due to bad experiences in the past. I wanted to find a place that my insurance covered that actually had good reviews and patient care. I came across River run on Instagram and wanted to look more into it. I had my first appointment today at the Short Pump location. I drove from Williamsburg which wasn't too far of a drive. My dental hygienist was Emily. I let her know I was a bit anxious and she talked me through everything. The whole process of dental xrays a cleaning and the doctors exam took about an hour. What makes this Dentist office different is they are a Dental spa. The chairs have massagers which is amazing. They have a comfort menu to make you feel more comfortable as you are getting your teeth cleaned or any procedures. It ranges from plush blankets, eye masks, kindle fire and more. I opted for a blanket and watched TV. Dr. Patel was the doctor who examined my xrays and teeth and came up with a great plan for the future. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was due to being given the wrong estimate for my next visit. Everyone makes mistakes and it was nothing major as it was corrected by the time I reached the parking lot. Overall I have found my dentist for life. The drive is definitely worth it to feel comfortable, see friendly faces and have great patient care. read more

While I was impressed by the initial kindness of the staff and nice facility, River Run is basically just a pretty bandaid over a nasty cut. Their front desk staff change every month, meaning no relationship building, and the staff usually are very confused and aren't super helpful (not their fault that the practice can't retain staff, but does make scheduling and payment more difficult). The hygienists are nice (also always a different person- they obviously cannot keep staff at all), and so are the docs, but they claim to be able to do orthodontist work and they definitely cannot. The Billing dept. was atrocious in getting refunds out, and did not seem to care that hundreds of dollars were owed back to me. The practice manager ignored and dodged calls for months, with no reason. It took 45 days to get a refund when they did finally process it. I was not apologized to once for the truly insane level of trouble we had. Would not recommend. TLDR: Smiling faces on the staff, but poor service, poor problem resolution, expensive cost, terrible billing dept, and ignored communication make this place a headache you should avoid. read more

First let me say, I like the dentists and care staff very much, but beware that their billing department has challenges. I rarely write reviews, but think this is important to share, given some of the other reviews listed as well. I used my flex spend account and somehow went from a large credit at River Run to owing an additional $480. All after being told on 3 separate occasions, that they owed me a refund and that I didn't need to pay anymore. This has been going on for the past 3 months and still not resolved. I visited River Run Dental for a routine cleaning and was unexpectedly told I needed a root canal, which I found hard to believe at just 26 years old. After paying my deposit, I sought a second opinion and was informed it was only a cavity. I requested a refund of my deposit from River Run Dental, and they stated it would take 4 to 6 weeks to process. It's now been 8 weeks, and I still haven't received my refund. Additionally, I've tried to reach them multiple times, but I don't get any answers. This experience has been very disappointing, and I feel misled and frustrated by the lack of communication. I love Dr. Field and her assistant. I also love Mia, the hygienist, so with all of that being great. Lisa at the front desk is rude and looks like she is miserable. I have excellent dental insurance and it pays for everything, with amounts less than 60$ owed. I said I would call as soon as I get home in 5 minutes and give you the card number over the phone. I usually pay upfront but didn't have my wallet with me at that moment. She said - I will allow it this one time- ok, what are you going to do, have my filling removed? they are a big business and only care about money, no matter how small the amount is. Also highly recommend booking with Christine. She has been there for a few years and she takes time to hear your concerns and fears. She is also patient and will take care of your teeth. Stay away from this place. They're more like a car dealership than a dentist in that their primary goal is to sell you a bunch of procedures you don't need. I have been dealing with a poorly placed crown that I paid $2,000 and now after a year and a half I have to have the entire tooth removed and an implant put in. Even after going back to them twice they claimed there was nothing wrong. They also told me I had three cavities that needed to be filled. After the experience with the crown there was NO WAY they were touching my teeth again. My new dentist has taken x-rays twice and there is ZERO evidence of any cavities. So basically they will try to sell you on any unnecessary procedures to make money. I've heard from several that my experience is common there. I don't know how they are still in business. read more

Horrible customer service. Can't get a hold of something on the phone to schedule appoint. My husbands filling was rescheduled 3 times by them and took over a year to finally have the appointment. If you have an emergency, they will not be able to fit you in for several weeks for any repair. They refused to do a cleaning while I was at the appointment because I didn't want to get an x-ray at that time. Go somewhere else for a more reliable dentist that actually cares. read more

I have been a longtime patient of River Run Dental, and made countless referrals to family, friends and colleagues to them. I and am very sorry to have to leave this review. Backstory: I called and made a last-minute appointment for my father, who would be a new patient. I made it very clear on the phone that we would like to know how much the service would be ahead of time, since I am familiar with their office and how they have you meet with a billing representative at the end of the visit to pay (which I have my own qualms about). We were met with a large bill at the end of the visit, and while they were accommodating at the time, there were several steps of miscommunication and inefficiencies in an operational standpoint that I thought could be improved (I myself work in healthcare). Furthermore, not one of their employees at any time mentioned their Dental Wellness Savings Program, which I would have been very interested in for my Father! I reached out to them via phone the next day and asked to speak with the Office Manager, as I was hoping to provide some valuable feedback of my experience and did not want to resort to writing an online review. Now, a week has passed and I never received a return phone call. I think they should focus on taking care of their patients and their needs, and less on making this a spa-like atmosphere. This was my first ever Yelp Elite event, and it could hardly have been better! Yelp is known for its foodies, and the açai bowl bar, endless sushi, and fresh treats did not disappoint. The services on offer included dental scans, massages, facials, and even manicures. In between all of those people were in such a good mood, talking and getting to know the other new additions to the group. River Run even had a tooth fairy that flitted about charming everyone in attendance. At the end of the night I won an electric toothbrush (another first). It was so great to win something I would never buy for myself but that I really value and use daily now. read more

WORST DENTAL EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! Where so I start? I've never in my life had so much pain but after going to this awful place. It's been about 2 months and I can't eat the same as I used to. I wish I had never recommend them to anyone. If you read this DON'T go here. First appointment seemed very off and fast. Second appointment they fixed 6 cavities and one which already was filled the REDID without my consent. This is the one who is still hurting to this day. My month was numb for FOUR days. In 2018 I made another appointment with her at the Richmond (the only office at the time) location to be seen today at 10:30 by Kendall. Last Thursday at 9:30 am River Run called me to confirm my appointment and told me that Kendall was now at the short pump location. Would I like to go to that office or stay at the Richmond location. I told her I would go to Short Pump because I wanted to see Kendall. I get off work early to go to my appointment and I can't be seen because NO ONE did their job and transferred my appointment over to Shortpump. It is a refreshing change from other dental offices I have gone to over the years! The Doctors, hygienists, and technicians are very efficient and knowledgable. First of all I must say this is the nicest dental office I've ever been to in my life LOL. They really emphasized the spa aspect in their name. I was on the hunt for a new dentist and got to check this place out courtesy of a Yelp Elite event. While at the event I made an appointment, cuz why not. They are definitely a modern dentistry! As you walk in you greeted by the receptionist who you will find always smiling. While you wait to be called back there's a coffee machine, hot tea, water and snacks available to you! When you get called back, the area in where you get your teeth cleaned is completely comfortable. You sit dow, and the chair is giving you a warm back massage! Talk about relaxing. There's a TV that serves 2 purposes, one, to show you anything the dr or hygienist needs to go over. Second, to watch TV, any show of your choosing! They also have a comfort menu while you are getting cleaned, all complimentary! You can get headphones for music, essential oils, a blanket, tea, coffee, a neck pillow, and that's only some of it! Today was my second visit at this practice. I completed a Invisalign consultation and it went wonderfully. I'm seriously considering it based on this visit. I saw Dr Patel at both visits. He seems very knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable about the process. I was referred to this practice by a friend a few months back (grateful) and based on my last visit I referred another friend who also had a wonderful visit. My prior dentist would no longer accept my insurance effective July 1, which prompted this change. We were given a quote for a replacement retainer. When my son went back weeks later to get the retainer, they charged him more than he was quoted. The cost had been increased sometime in between when he received the initial quote and when he picked them up. They charged him the new amount stating the retainers were already made. We called them multiple times regarding the inaccurate charge and were told the business office manager would contact us. The business office manager never contacted us nor did they respond to the Better Business Bureau. Looking at the BBB reviews this is a pattern for River Run. read more

The customer service is beyond exceptional, they make going to the dentist a pleasant experience, and this is coming from someone who has dental anxiety. They shower you with gifts and accommodations to ease any nervousness or discomfort you may have. Can I start by saying the office immediately felt calming. The decor was contemporary and clean. The check in was super easy. Once I was seen the dental assistant was superb. Because it was my first visit I had plenty to say. She was attentive and patient and listened to my immediate needs. Once the doctor came in she was ditto of the assistant. Very attentive and caring. I went in wanting a extraction and I was educated by both doctor and assistant and my mind was changed. Even though I am a 30 minute drive away I will continue to go there for my dental needs. From beginning to end, my annual cleaning dental process was Swift and efficient. I left my previous dentist for being cold and distant. You work with smiles all day. Period. You should smile yourself right? That's what I found at RRD. People who clearly love what they do, from the hygienist to the doctors. The goodie bag for being a new patient was thoughtful, the ability to do my paperwork online was efficient, the comfort menu was considerate and warm, the referral incentives are fair and fun, and the office was sleek and clean, yet I didn't feel like my pocket was paying for all of the aesthetics. The team obviously communicates well, as my appointment was efficient but not rushed. Kudos to the scheduling coordinators for having an awesome sense of everyone's time. It really makes me feel like my time is valuable to them (and I know the doctors time is, too). It's super respectful and I sincerely appreciate that. The office itself is very fancy and nice. However, you'll be paying a big chunk of change to experience the nice office. Their billing department is AWFUL! You'll pay your bill off and they lose the payment and try to charge you multiple times for the same payment. Ridiculous! They also will tell you all these things are wrong and extra stuff you need done to get more money. They tried to tell me I needed thousands of dollars of work done so I got a second opinion at two other dentist and they basically told me River Run was scamming me for money. read more

I love love love the staff here. It is a fairly new establishment and a super nice building, awesome location right in short pump. Eeven though it has a spa relaxation feel, it is very technologicallyl advanced, from x rays to 3D mapping of your teeth. They offer complimentary drinks and snacks if you want and little things like a neck pillow, eye mask, even laughing gas if you want it...but that item has a fee. You are greeted with a smile and a friendly atmosphere that makes you feel like family...the dentists are very nice and gentle for the most part. You even have the option to pay installments so you dont have to pay it all upfront if your insurance doesn't cover all the bill. I am really happy going here and look forward to coming here for a long time. read more

I never thought I would leave a raving review for a dental office, but here I am. I have horrible dental anxiety from a bad orthodontist so I came in terrified. I had read all the great reviews but I didn't believe that a dentist office could actually be enjoyable. I was so wrong. (note: my visit took place during covid precautions, so it looked a little different than normal). You're greeted by the wonderful smell coming from the essential oil diffuser, along with a wonderful receptionist that makes you feel welcome and comfortable; they also take your temperature as a precaution. My hygienist was wonderful, and took the time to listen to my concerns and fears. You melt into the massaging chairs while the tv is playing. You're offered a free comfort menu (although not a physical menu right now due to covid), and while I decided that I didn't want any of the options they assured me I could change my mind at any point. It truly felt like a spa. They clearly have the patient's comfort as their number one priority, which I really appreciate. I feel like if celebrities lived in Short Pump, this is where they would go. I have always left dentist offices feeling bad about myself and just generally upset, but I left today smiling. I cannot recommend this office enough. Dentist and hygienist are fine. The office billing is HORRIBLE! We paid up front( per office billing manager instructed) then they received payment from BCBS and still bill me. Sat with billing manager for one hour to go over EOB S & " paid off" account ( which office does not have a record of meeting) but still got a $697 Bill stating was going into collections. Numerous phone calls get no where. They admitted they have a $400 credit for me but will take 4 to 6 weeks to process. Still getting collection notices . I am in medical field and understand medical billing, but RR Dental gives the impression they may take advantage of patients who do not review statements. Hey, someone needs to pay for the water and coffee in waiting area! If you go, bring your check book !! read more
