I felt bad because he looked like he was working pretty hard but he dropped everything to help me. He gave me great recommendations and made me laugh and made my time very welcoming. We moved to Hollister from Watsonville, the Tri-tip in Watsonville is flavorful, juicy, and overall a pleasure to share with family and friends. The Tri-tip at Hollister's Nob Hill is dry, there is no season crust like the one in Watsonville, and overall burned and over cooked. I truly hope the management team at Hollister's Nob Hill see this because not only is it disappointing, but the Tri-tip they are selling is basically waste.

I open the 2nd half because I thought the first piece of chicken used was really thick and dry. Well turns out these aren't even strips! Employees are always friendly and attentive and have answered questions when I had them. Buy a large I find the produce to be excellent, and I'm glad that there's at least some local produce available. While prices for some things are understandably higher than at a discount store, that's overridden by the quality and variety of many items not found elsewhere in Watsonville. I have started using the app and while I don't find it user-friendly at all, after a few months, I've gotten the hang of it, and there are some substantial savings with it. I hesitated in the beginning because I really don't like all my shopping habits, tracked, but acknowledge that tracking is how they can personalize specific discount offers to you. So, I would like less types of discounting, but I'll take it for now. I just click on the account and select to clip all savings instead of Willie Nelly going through item by item. One click of the account barcode and you'll get your savings at checkout. I don't recall, but I think they might even have a Wallet feature so you could enter your preferred credit card and shop with nothing but your smart phone. But again it's the people and the service and the cleanliness and the quality of the food that keeps me coming back.

They have exotic brands from around the world along with rare and older brands that the big box grocery stores don't carry. I don't know how they do it, but the quality and freshness of the vegetables and perishables are top notch given such variety. We used to shop at Whole Foods in Monterey, and we like the small specialty shops like Elroy's in Monterey and Jerome's Carmel Valley Market, but Star Market is a combination of both worlds. Whole Foods has gotten corporate with an overemphasis on their own brands. Star Market doesn't really have their brand so they are extremely loyal to local brands which makes the shopping experience feel like a tour of Monterey County highlights. I also like the very practical way they're running their business. Few frills, very clean, and high quality. In fact, it feels very nostalgic to walk in, like a movie set from the 1970's which makes me feel that this is still a family owned and run business. If you're looking for a truly unique experience that is different from the Albertsons/Lucky/Safeway/Nob Hill sameness, then you have to do yourself a favor and visit Star Market. It has a Salinas/Monterey old fashioned charm coupled with unrivaled variety and quality.
