Not only did I feel absolutely nothing, but I was entirely calm through out the entire procedure! I felt very relaxed and instantly trusting of Dr Blackhart. He's very pleasant as well as all of the assistants/admin staff that I've encountered. The friendliness and professionalism is top notch! And boy is the facility clean!!! I was charged $285.00 up front for my son's cleaning/check up and you assured my husband over the phone that you guys would bill our insurance and we would get the reimbursement for the cleaning/check up sent directly to our house from Delta. You did in fact do all of this, however, we were only reimbursed $147.00, due to your out of network status with Delta. Cleanings and check ups should be fully covered under my insurance, so paying $138 out of pocket for that is absolutely crazy. For people not familiar with dental prices, a cleaning and check-up at most dental offices for a patient with absolutely NO insurance typically runs $75-$200. Don't be us and learn the hard way, choose an in-network provider! I understand they're not trying to lose all of their clientele due to cutting off all the dental contracts, but I think you need to be more honest with people not familiar with dental billing and let people know much they will be reimbursed back. My husband was under the impression that we would get the full amount back that we paid up front based on your conversation with him. If you truly care about your patients/clientele, I highly suggest you start being more honest about the up front cost and how much will be reimbursed back by the insurance before seeing the patient. We would never have agreed for our son to be seen, if we knew the full details.

Don't bother going here for emergencies. I called a week ago and told them I think I need a root…read morecanal and that I was in severe pain. I made an appointment and took a day off of work to get my issues taken care of. During my exam the dentist says... Yes I think you may need a root canal. (this I already know and explained to them a week ago on the phone). He then says I will need to refer you out to my root canal specialist. I'm like what? You already know I waited a week and I'm in pain. So they attempt to make an appointment for two days from now. I reply I can't do that, I already took off work to get this done today. So the specialist who is 30 minutes away says ok we can see him. So now I drive to another city to see the specialist only to be told it would cost me $126 just for a consultation... No work on my teeth would be done The work would be scheduled out another week or so because the specialist was going on vacation. Needless to say this type of customer service is unexceptable. I was never told on the phone during the initial call that if in fact I needed a root canal I would get referred out to a specialist. Had I known this I would have made other choices to get my exam. I am beyond frustrated and still in pain with nothing done to fix the issue. I work six days a week in San Francisco ( which is a 2 1/2 hour commute), so my time is valuable. I hope that everyone reads the comment by the dentist in response to my review. There was no confusion on my part. I never named this dentist, I simply said dentist. It happened in his office and there still is no accountability to the breakdown of communication. I simply put that had I known that I would be referred out, I would have checked other avenues. Maybe this is the way care dentistry works but I was never afforded that. It really demonstrates that lack of empathy he has for people. I also agree with him on one thing... I never met him. But I never said I did. It was his office and it was a different dentist. However when someone calls the front desk and describes there symptoms etc. I have had root canals before and told them I think this is what it is. My former dentist did everything in house including the procedure, so that is my experience. It really comes down to just explaining procedurely what to expect if it was a root canal situation. I probably would have came in anyway knowing that because that is the practice of care dentistry. I too feel bad. I feel bad that the dentist takes no accountability for people he employs or things that happen in HIS office. I truly thought I might get some contact where we could have had dialog but instead it's just an example of my experience. I understand he is well established and I hope this was an isolated incident.

My 11 year old, who is not problematic, was told to raise her hand if she felt pain during her dental work. She raised her hand and the dentist puts her hand down for her and tells her "no, you don't feel anything." And continues to work on her tooth. Now I WISH I would've been in the room with her, I was outside trying to comfort my 5 year old who had just finished "seeing" the dentist. Should've trusted my gut and left the office within the first 2 visits with their office.

At first, I was really taken back by how high-tech this office is! They have many cool specs like…read moretaking 3D images of your mouth. I was quite impressed and excited to start my dental journey. Upon walking in, the receptionists were all very kind and welcoming. They have coffee and water in the waiting room and were helpful answering questions about insurance and scheduling. I was taken back by a dental assistant and she was very kind! She took xrays and got me ready for the doctor. Dr. Shah was very informative and let me know everything that needed to happen to make my mouth happy! I needed some fillings and a crown done. I appreciated the payment plan option and put it to use for my visit/work that needed to be done. Upon coming in for my fillings and crown, I was quite nervous. Dr.Shah knew of my anxiety, as it was in my chart. I was visibly nervous and the needles didnt add anything good to how I was feeling. I let him know I would need more numbing as my teeth as sensitive from my grinding. He numbed me up and then wanted to work on me immediately after the injection. I asked if I could wait a bit to let the numbing kick in and he agreed but seemed to be a bit annoyed. After waiting a minute or so, he began to try to work on mh teeth and I continued to experience pain. I asked for more numbing and he agreed. Again, he seemed to be annoyed. Maybe because he had another patient to get to? After asking to let the numbing kick in again, we proceeded with my treatment shortly after. This time, I was more numb. When I was called to come back for my new crown, I was excited for my process to be done! I sat down and the dental assistant removed my temporary crown. She gently scraped at my tooth as I had some adhesive stuck to it still. She was very gentle but my sensitivity was severe. She let me know that we can apply topical anesthetic to see if that helps and if it doesnt, I can get the numbing injection. I agreed and she prepared the tray with the topical and injectable anesthetic. When Dr.Shah came in to apply the crown, he was ready to get to work. I let him know of my discomfort/pain and what I had discussed with the dental assistant. He applied the topical numbing and it instantly lit up my face with pain. My teeth are so sensitive! I closed my mouth and held my face. He asked if I was okay and I said "Yes, but I am in pain". He proceeded to attempt to dry my tooth off with the air and I continued to express my pain in tensing up, vocally moaning and at times letting him know it was painful. He just kept asking if I was okay but never seemed to think to give me the injection of anesthetic. As he was preparing to blowing the air to dry my tooth, I could feel the air circulating around me and in my mouth even though it wasnt being blown directly on me. It was painful and he chuckled saying "Im not even blowing air on your tooth yet". The dental assistant kept saying "just 10 more seconds" over and over again. What was supposed to be "10 seconds" of pain turned into minutes and minutes of pain. It was a lot to go through and the service could have been made comfortable by taking the time and giving me the injection of anesthetic. I felt like he was rushing to get to his next patient and didnt want to take that time to make me comfortable. To be completely vulnerable in this review, I had a panic attack in the car and cried all the way home while still in pain. I was in pain for about an hour after this all happening. I couldnt fall asleep because I was having flash backs of being in the office and feeling the pain I had. All of this could have been prevented. The following day was my last encounter at the office. I was coming back in to have my bite guard adjusted after getting my crown. I have to admit, I was quite traumatized by my last visit and asked my wife to come in with me as support for this last appointment. I was dreading going back but I needed this guard fixed. Dr.Shah came in and got right to work and asked about my sensitivity. I did let him know of my experience pertaining to him laughing and how I didnt feel like that was professional. He apologized and thanked me for my feed back. I did not get into what other things I experienced as I was not ready to talk or deal with that. The dental industry has a strong record of being something that people are afraid of. I was taken back to have that become my reality after my visit here at Riverbank Modern Dentistry. I have never had an experience quite like this before.
