The boat was in the water, but the dock gate was locked. No staff ever showed up to open it, and despite calling multiple times, no one answered the phone. Everyone stood waiting until it became clear we were not going to be able to board. There was no email, call, or sign posted to explain what was happening. We are flying out tomorrow, so rescheduling isn't possible. We paid $180.15 for this cruise, and not only missed the experience we were looking forward to, but also wasted our time on what should have been a special evening. Very disappointing and unprofessional. I am requesting a full refund and hope J&M Cruise Lines improves their communication and reliability.

Ron was more interested in telling people how he was getting paid to teach people how to sail than actually teaching people how to sail. We really learned very little during the course about actual sailing. We did learn that Captain Ron likes going to expensive places for lunch and having his students pay the tab. We did not receive our Basic Cruising stickers for our logbook as they were out, and they never sent our info to US Sailing. I just found this out the other day. I emailed and called about a dozen times in the past year and still have nothing. Captain Ron also showed us how to destroy the navigation lights on his boat while pulling into a slip. Not sure I wanted to learn that. Overall it was a terrible experience.

They are OLD and I don't think any upgrades have been made in well over 50 years. It wouldn't take much to spruce them up a little bit. All things aside, the Detroit River still provides some amazing views. It's pretty amazing how close the boats get to hitting the Belle Isle bridge when they pass under it. As you're approaching, it looks as if the boat is going to hit the bridge. Makes for a bit of a thrill. From reading other reviews on here, it appears they do historical tours. I'd love to give one of these a try next summer!

The Great Lakes part was slightly unpleasant for my sea sick prone self, but the river portion was calm and fun. You see a lot of canoes and bars along the way and they are always happy to see the GT3. They offer food, ice cream treats and drinks on various levels. The first level is enclosed, the second is open air (but covered) and the third is totally open. The first floor bathrooms are a very pleasant surprise. The sinks have soap, water and dryer all built in and touchless. The mirrors even let you control the brightness. What a fun and pleasant surprise. I was a little nervous about taking my son to the restroom on a boat, but all good! Overall, such a great option - especially to add on to the rock and roll hall of fame or other downtown outings.

I find that people who love their jobs are usually great at what they do, and that was certainly the case with Dean. He's a fun, knowledgeable, and friendly guy, and his enthusiasm was contagious. He took me and a friend on a boat tour of several Lake Erie islands, including the one that is the southernmost point of Canada. It wasn't just a boat ride, though. Dean filled us in on ecological information and the history of the various islands, which includes pirates and the mob, among other things. He also knew where to go to spot pelicans and other beautiful birds. Dean made this a tour to remember.

We rented a Duffy boat that holds up to 12 people and we brought 9. It was simply awesome! The boat was easy to use and our night out on the water was perfect. We did a 7-9pm rental. Soooooo fun!! The driver and co-captain were extremely polite, even though it was a hot afternoon. We were allowed to bring 3 beers or a total of 36 oz of drinks with us. There was a Bluetooth speaker on board which allowed up to all take turns playing our own music too. Overall, the ride lasted a little over 2 hours and it was smooth along the water. A few views that made the outing a memorable one were: downtown's skyline, the flats, and an opening of the lake. Typically the boat will seat about 10 people and we had just a few less. Regardless, it was not an issue as they were extremely accommodating. There is a small convenient store next to the boarding location if you forgot to purchase any beverages before the adventure.
