So, the experience was little awkward. There were just a lot of little things that I thought was weird. To preface, this was my first time going to a cat cafe so I wasn't really sure what to expect. The drip coffee was the only drink they have besides tea that was decaffeinated. It was actually really good for drip coffee. I didn't mention it at the cafe, but on the menu, the coffee is $2.95 but when she rang them up it came out to about $7 a drink. Not sure where the discrepancy was there. A sink was also not working properly so it took about 20 minutes to get our drinks. Because of our wait time, she let us have 30 free minutes with the cats. That was really kind! (We still donated money for the cause). The cats were all new to the room except for one. Some of the cats didn't really get along well with each other, but it was an overall good experience. I just love cat cafes because they're a wonderful place for adoptable cats to go and most have a pretty successful adoption rate. We were in downtown Evansville for other reasons, but stopped in to get coffee and smoothies. You usually need an appointment to visit with the cats, so we only admired from the window. CATS + COFFEE! I had the best time ever here! If you aren't super into cats and just want to enjoy the cafe, don't worry because they have seating outside of the cat area as well. The price to sit with the cats is $6 for 30 min or $8 for an hour. I did 30 min and time flew! There is a knowledgeable employee sitting in the cat room to answer questions and help out. I would totally adopt a cat from here if I didn't have to fly back home! My coffee was pretty good. I got an iced latte but the ice was almost melted already once I got it. The front of the shop drew me in immediately! So many lounging kitties in the window! When I walked through I was immediately greeted by one of the workers, I asked about the prices and they were amazing! $6 for half an hour $8 for an hour, I went in for an hour and had a really great time, the cat room was a little small, I was one of six people in there, and it felt crowded. The only issue I had was not all the cats were friendly with each other, so there were a couple hissing and cat fights. Also the cat's claws were not trimmed (at least the day I was there they were not) so I would not suggest bring small children in if they don't know how to properly interact with cats, I was scratched cause two cats who were not fond of one another stated a fight in my lap. (I don't blame the cats they are animals nor do I blame staff) I did not inform the workers because again it was no big deal and I only write it to let others know so they can plan accordingly. If I lived in the area I would DEFINITELY come again and probably be a regular. read more

I'm in love with this place. I finally got to stop in while in Evansville on business. Not only were they open until 8, but it was happy hour so you could have wine and kitty cuddles after a long day. You can opt for $6/30 minutes or $8/per hour to spend in the cat room. The night I went, I got to meet 9 cats and 2 adorable babies who wanted to play. Best of all, the kitties are adoptable in partnership with the local humane society and they've adopted over 300 cats so far. My favorites were Albert and Tate. But who can resist kittens? They also have a selection of beautiful sweets and macarons and coffees to choose from. The atmosphere is very zen and relaxing and is probably just right for the yoga with cats sessions they offer! It was great and I look forward to returning during my next visit! read more

I chalked it up to people eating/ drinking but most weren't and some were actively walking around, even to the counter as the cashier stood behind plexiglass, masked and I (also masked) tried to cash-out while politely asking a woman and her two children to give me some space by saying -- unfortunately, they didn't really "get it". I wish the cashier would have said something (and maybe I should have also been more direct instead of saying something about me needing to access the card reader) but it's so frustrating to deal with people who can't follow simple rules. read more

PURRRRFECT for a fun time in downtown Evansville, the River Kitty Cat Cafe has a bigger mission and purpose: rescuing cats from the Vandeburgh County animal shelter and adopting them into good homes!! :) As of today 12 Jun 2019, 216 cats have been adopted from here into forever homes!!! We stopped in after walking past, but you can also schedule your visit online for any day they are available. The cost is $6 per person for 30 minutes, and $8 per person for an hour. Kids are very welcome, but must be over the age of 6 to play with the kitties. There are a few common sense rules: don't pick up the cats, use inside voices, let sleeping cats sleep, no food inside the enclosure (drinks are fine though). The cats are enclosed in a glass-walled room of their own with a view of Main Street for excitement and an escape hatch to the basement for lots of free roaming. The walls are festooned with half-logs of big bamboo for cat walks, and there are over two dozen cat hides, soft beds, and cat trees PLUS baskets of different toys to tickle every feline's fancy. This is the best cat cafe we have ever been to, bar none. Not a single whiff of cat box, and the place was immaculately clean, with a staff member inside with the cats at all times to clean up any oopsies. Five purrrfect outing stars!! read more

So I had stepped out of another cafe in the area, not realizing this place was across the street. But intrigued by the sign I had to stop in, and I was so glad I did! This is a great local place, Cat-centric, with Kitty decor, and a room just to play with cats! 1 hour with the kitties costs $7, but I think they also sell smaller increments. They had a special the afternoon I stopped in, 15 min with any purchase from the cafe. Because they also sell coffee and baked goods and such. I ordered the Lemon Raspberry bar which was delicious. They also serve macarons flown in from NYC which I find insane. I'm sure the drinks are just as good as well. The experience here really is mostly about the cats, and I like how they have their information for adoption as well (one of my sister's friends adopted a kitten from here). Quality food and quality experience, and unique cafe for sure! read more

Forget Starbucks, I always get my coffee from River Kitty Cat Cafe! I wish I could give more than five stars because I just love this establishment. Where to start? The uniqueness that this cafe brings to Evansville is a great change! The cafe feels very homey, and you also get to contribute to a great cause. A fun addition to Main Street. As a cat lover, it's fun to stop by and say hello to the kitties. Apparently 251 cats have been adopted since it has opened which is great! The ambience is nice but a little bit congested feeling because the space is small. I noticed their bottle wine selection was reasonably priced. The cats, of which there were 8 today, were all pretty snoozy and fairly receptive to being pet. The place was clean and fairly hair-free despite so many cats being in the room. We were in town for a Geocaching event, and looking for a place go grab a bite before heading back to Indy. Saw this place on Yelp, and chose it because it had "Kitty" in the name. We had NO idea there were actual cats here. Yes, real, live, purring kitties. What a pleasant surprise! We are both animal rescue advocates and have a house full of rescued pets, including cats, so we're glad to support anyone of like mind. The food--while the menu is small, what they do, they do VERY good, That's actually my preference in a restaurant--know what you do, and do it well, instead of being all things to all people. I had the curry chicken wrap and it was really, REALLY good. Plenty of curry, but not so much to overwhelm the taste of the chicken. The fresh grapes were an unexpected surprise. This cat café was amazing! Friendly staff, great macarons, and cute kitties, what's not to love? There was a wait since there were already people in the space where the cats are, but we only waited about 10-15 minutes, and it was worth every second. They do accept walk-ins of there's nobody in the room with the cats, but if there are, you need to wait. All the cats are adoptable, with varying ages from kittens to older cats. The kittens were very energetic. My favorite was a little black one with a white-tipped tail who was extremely playful and loved to hunt the toy I used. For the older cats, they mostly slept, but you could sit next to them and let them, and they would purr and purr like little motors. The room is well set up, with balconies, toys, and a place for the cats to come and go to and from the basement. There were a few sleeping, so we didn't try to pet them. Now to the macarons. My sister had the Ferrero Rocher one (apologies if I misspelled it) and the Nutella one, while I had the Honey Lavender and Creme Brulee macarons. My personal favorite was the creme brulee, since it had more flavor, and was more tender. It was even torched on the top! The honey lavender one was also amazing, with a lovely honey lavender cream inside. My sister's favorite was the Ferrero Rocher, since it had pieces of hazelnut on it. All in all, a wonderful place that I would definitely go back to. Please adopt those cats so that they can have wonderful homes, and while you're there, have a macaron! read more

The cats were lovely as expected. The employees definitely were not. I do not understand why it seems to be so difficult for others to treat you as they would want to be treated. We paid our $8 each as expected. I also paid like $6.25 for a 16 ounce milkshake which was definitely not worth it at all. The employee was inside the cat room with us the entire time too which was also expected. There were about 5 others inside there with us. There was a couple playing with cats who were on the perches on the wall pretty much the entire time we were in there, and in the last 10 minutes one of the cats fell off their poorly structured cat tree. Because of that, I was yelled at when resuming to play with a cat on the opposite side of the room which was on the same exact perch that the couple was playing with it on earlier. I understand you don't want them to get hurt. I have kitties too. But maybe add SAFETY to their cat trees instead of yelling "HEY" at someone who is doing exactly the same as others have been doing for the past hour, just because you realize your structures are not safe. Do not have it be open to public if you know it is not safe for your cats. They knew I was upset when I left right after I was yelled at and seemed to be sucking up afterward because they seemed to be afraid of me doing something like writing a bad review. Well, here you go. Maybe use common courtesy and respect next time before you yell and make others feel uncomfortable for no reason. Extremely hypocritical. The way they were picking up the cats made me uncomfortable as well, they always squeaked or yelped and I know for sure my cat never does that so I'm not totally sure how they're picking them up and holding them but it doesn't seem right. I know some cats are more shy than others but for every single one to do that - LOL. Maybe you should go over the rules with people visiting inside the room, before you criticize and yell at them. Or maybe just simply say "please don't do that". Or maybe revise the way this is run. You are not the only cat cafe in the world and I'm sure you won't be the last. The only thing I was not disappointed by were the cats themselves and the one older lady behind the counter who was nice. The owners also seem to extremely rudely respond to negative reviews - another obvious sign of a lack of customer service and they obviously can't improve themselves because they are too arrogant to do so. Just because you adopt out cats from the humane society does not mean you are suddenly perfect. You need to do well by these cats too. Sorry. Can't wait to see what pettiness they say in response but overall this is my 100% honest review, I felt disrespected and let down and will never return here again. I'm not going to lie but when I go down here I come for the coffee beverages and homemade macaroons while anyone else would probably give their attention to cats that are rescued and being available for adoption if you choose to give your potential pet a forever home. I can't recall what the fee is to play and show affection to all the cats that haven't been adopted but if you're allergic to cats need no worry cause the cats are cased into window room with (toys, play areas, food, water and chairs for customers that just have a love for cats) for viewing while sipping on your beverages or secluded place for remote work and etc. The employees put in an effort to create bio for each adoptable cats and update post on which ones got adopted to keep you informed in case you have any questions. read more

We had an a great time at River Kitty! The space is expertly designed and set up perfectly to see all the kitties. The staff is very knowledgeable and makes you feel at home and comfortable. We didn't have a reservation (which is recommended on the weekends) but they got us in! If we didn't live out of town we would have adopted one of the sweet cats. We ordered beers and were able to take in and sip on beers why we pet the cats, what more could you ask for??
