The home is stunning with amazing attention to detail. There's convenient parking on-site, and you walk into the side door of the home. The hosts were amazing. Doug was great with answering all my questions and emails before we went, and once there, they both were incredibly hospitable and offered us some cool beer and lovely wine and cheese when we checked in. They were very friendly and talkative and knew so much about the area. The reservation process was very simple, we called them up and booked our room via the phone. Check in was easy and quick and our room was beautiful. We stayed in the Chadwick room which is on the 2nd floor. It has an in-room bathroom, which is something I prefer in a B&B. The bed was a beautiful 4 poster with soft comfortable sheets. Everything was incredibly clean and decorated so well. The common rooms were beautiful and comfortable and had books on historic architecture in the area. I loved how they had photos of some of the previous owners of the home and their families. You have to look for the signature scratched into the glass window! The patio was really adorable, I wish we had had more time to sit outside and have a drink. Doug made us a reservation at the Blue Dog Cafe which was really fun. They had live music and singing which we enjoyed. We spent most of our time at Chincoteague and Assateague, which are both about a 30 minute drive away from the house. Doug and Fran gave excellent directions and had maps available to give to us. The breakfast IS AMAZING. The best breakfast I have had at a B&B by FAR. Easily one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. Saturday morning was a simple breakfast as we had to leave really early for a kayaking reservation. Doug and Fran woke up early with us and were so accommodating! Even though breakfast is normally served later, they had some coffee and tea ready for us with wonderful goat cheese scrambled eggs and bacon. Sunday's breakfast was the breakfast of kings. We had a fruit cup, followed by Doug's father's Popovers recipe, which were these light and fluffy puffs in beautiful cups. That was then followed by a hashbrown crusted quiche, and ending with croissant french toast. We were stuffed and it was all delicious. HIGHLY recommend!!!

Very nicely decorated, and just enough quirkiness to make the house very interesting to explore. The Ocean View room was very cozy and the bed very comfortable. There are porches on both the first and second floor, and we took advantage of the opportunity to just sit and relax each evening after dinner out. Our hostess, Carol, was very friendly and knowledgeable about the home and the area. Breakfasts were an absolute treat, both delicious and filling. Carol kindly made a fantastic gluten-free cinnamon apple coffee cake, which I really appreciated, and even my husband (who usually doesn't do gluten-free willingly) said it was top-notch. They have a few bicycles, but some are in rough shape. The breakfast was light but delicious. There is plenty of free public parking behind the inn. So park behind them and walk through the back to the front door. The staff is friendly and did a good job cleaning the room and serving. I did not try dinner, but it was packed; I don't know if that indicates quality. But all the tables were full. For the price compared to the other hotels, it's a good choice for a couple. I'm sure you could have kids, but there is nothing on the grounds to keep them entertained. And because of that, if you stay there, you don't get the noise from screaming kids or the frat boys getting wasted next door. It's an excellent option for an overnight stay.

I found the amuse bouche plate that consisted of a single scallop, French onion scone with strawberry preserves, Gruyere cheese, and other foods, to be a bit confusing. The salad plate was top notch, enjoyable. Red snapper, the main course, was right in there. A lovely fillet, placed on a bed of delicate mashed potatoes and fresh vegetable medley, was excellent. The chocolate fig cake dessert looked superb but some of the other chocolate components weren't complementary. The whole dining experience was very relaxing.

BEWARE racism, bigotry, homophobia, awkward, traumatic moments ahead if you book with Jan and Jim…read more My partner and I stayed here last Summer and made the mistake to think this would be a friendly b&b (we had known very few were we actually ever feel truly welcome) but thought to give it a chance during my sister's birthday weekend. Upon checking in, Jan eyed us up and down and did not know what to make of two feminine women who didn't seem to just be friends, let alone an inter-racial couple (she would later tell us how open she was and even wanted to someday buy a purple Polka dotted bus and park it outside her church just to show how "accepting" she was...yes, like you, we do not know what that means either). Please keep in mind, that the entire time we spent on this porch with her she refused to make eye contact with my partner, who is a woman of color (she would continue to lean on her racist, gross belief that the white woman in the relationship must be the one paying for everything). Fast forward to the morning, where we would get knocks on our door for breakfast, jolted out of bed by her telling us we must get up. We were worried what would occur if we didn't join the other guests for her breakfast. We joined everyone in the dining room, where Jan stood over each guest and would ask if you didn't finish your plate "if you did not like it? No appetite?" Awkward to say the least especially when this was not a relative who you had to politely deal with. During the breakfast, we would hear off conversations from Jan's sermon (yes you read that right) of wanting to be like the English, her pride of Daughters of the Revolution and how she wished her family had come over on the Mayflower to even talks of how amazing the 13 colonies were and how pure New England blood lines are and her love of being a devote White Anglo Saxon Christian. Meanwhile her husband, Jim stood behind her looking rather afraid and traumatized (victim we presume and he isn't allowed to leave the kitchen). She even gave the group a question and answer of how each couple met but with no surprise, stopped at us, smiled weirdly and then went to the next couple. At the end of the weekend, we checked out as early as we could and never looked back again. Do yourself a favor, and check out other spots in Berlin; this one is just not worth it.

The reception was in a large tent past the paddock areas. They had some lawn games, fire pits, and bathroom trailers available. We partied into the night and had lots of fun. Can't comment on price because we were guests and not involved in the planning, but it appeared very organized with lots of assistants ushering people from one area to another (or taking them on golf carts). The owner was even on site and took a turn escorting wayward guests on the cart to give his staff a break. We had BBQ which was not their normal caterer, but the bar staff worked for the venue, and knew their stuff. Very enjoyable night, beautiful venue.
