How artisanal gelato should be stored
    Juju K.

If you mourned the absence of Grom for years, you can finally rejoice. Since Grom has closed its doors during the pandemic, I have been searching for a gelato shop that offers high quality, yogurt gelato. I found that most places don't carry it or only offer it temporarily. However, yogurt is one of the regular flavors at Rivareno. It goes great with lemon sorbet or pistachio gelato by the way. The quality and intensity of flavor are on par with Grom. Also, I have this belief that artisanal gelati are kept in closed stainless steel containers. Those open tubs with colorful mounds of gelati look enticing, but I suspect they are made with flavor mixes. Grom had them in containers and so do Rivareno. It is pretty pricey, but they use high quality ingredients and they are in NYC, so... just shut up and enjoy the gelato!

I think this gelato shop is similar another popular nyc gelato place - Anita's - in terms of texture and taste. Perhaps I'm just not a huge fan of super smooth gelato. I did the quality of the gelato was quite good and certainly better than Anita's. The pistachio flavor isn't too strong, the cremino rivareno flavor is hazelnut based and is quite a bit stronger. I do like the gelato but its quality does not justify $11.5 (after tax) for two smallish scoops of gelato, especially given my opinion on its consistency. Service is kind of slow since there's only one person working the front and oftentimes a line. When I went around 9pm on a weekday, there were no tables to eat inside. 4.4/5

This gelato was SO GOOD. I loved that they had such unique flavors like yogurt because I love tart original froyo but this was even better. So creamy and you get to choose two flavors. A place to go twice in one week.

I swear by 95% of Italian gelatos that are stored with tin can coverings. I say this as a partner of an Italian man. We don't visit gelato establishments that have mountain-high, fancy, whipped displays of gelato. There is only one place that we make an exception for this, and that is ONLY for Giolotti in Rome. This is because whenever there is gelato stacked super high, 9/10 times, they use cheap filler to create volume. That being said, the gold standard of gelato in the city are Rivareno, Gentile (from Bari), and L'art de Gelato. You can taste the quality of ingredients and the taste is highly pronounced and pigmented - not artificial. We've gotten the specials of key lime pie and chocolate peanut butter, and it truly heaven in our mouths. A favorite of ours whenever we visit SoHo for errands, eating, and or shopping.

I'm ASTOUNDED at the quality of this gelato, this place will ruin you for gelato for the rest of your life. Once you get gelato here you will not be able to eat others The pistachio and gianduia combo is the elite order. The prices are not cheap, but I came here 3 days in a row on a recent trip if that shoes how much this place is truly so so so so unique.

Absolutely one of the best hot chocolates I've had in NY. I've been searching PROPER Italian hot chocolate for ages and only a couple spots have been doing it with the right amount of thickness and depth of chocolate flavor and rivareno is one of them! It comes with marshmallows but because no one knew if they were made with veg gelatin or meat based gelatin I elected to not have any. That would've absolutely taken this hot chocolate to the next level. It was smooth and rich and the perfect sweetness. A hot chocolate affogato with their gelato would KILLLLLL.

Overall: C // 3 stars New gelato shop open in SoHo with an intriguing menu featuring unique flavors like Lychee and Banana Coffee. Unfortunately, I found their gelato to be quite light in flavor, and could benefit from using more fruit or fruit that is more in season, especially for the price tag hovering around $10. Delicious gelato! My husband and I stopped in for gelato during one of the coldest weekends of the year so far and it still hit the spot! The gentleman at the counter was very friendly and offered us multiple samples to try. The gelato itself is the perfect consistency, soft and incredibly flavorful. You get a decent amount in the small and it's stuffed into the cup well. We mixed Oreo and stracciatella and both were fantastic and well balanced. There was a decent amount of seating but I imagine when it's warm out these fill up fast. This is the best gelato place we've had in the city so far. Can't wait to try it when it's actually warm out!

Obsessed with this spot! The gelato is so light and airy to a level I haven't experienced before. The flavors are all delicious and you're welcomed to trying a sample.

One of the best gelato places I've been to in NYC and they have the best service. They were welcoming and kind. They were patient and let us try a few flavors. From my understanding, they are one of the few ice cream makers that make the gelato on site. I really enjoyed their crema (custard, that was surprisingly yellow hue) and the pumpkin spice flavors. I also had the dark chocolate and nocciola (hazelnut) which were a bit too thick for me. The shop has a minimal and clean vibe. The cups are small, but probably intentionally because they really fill them. They're a bit pricey, but I think the quality is really good and it's a good treat to have every once and a while.

Two words - Liquid gold. Tried a bunch of gelato spots in the city and a few in Rome, but Rivareno, straight from Italy, is out of this world. After sampling a few flavors to get the best combo, I gave up and just made a choice. Everything sampled was just too good so I knew, I need to return again and again to really do myself full justice here. The staff was friendly and did great recommending flavors based on our taste preferences. What I ended up with was a combo of two flavors: - CREMINO DARK - all caps because this was hands-down, the best I have ever had. This had notes of pistachios, hazelnut and a base of dark chocolate. Silky and outrageously good! - Yogurt- tarty and refreshing to complement my hero flavor and it did great as a side kick!! 10/10 gelato

Italian gelato following late lunch of party of two was a very sweet ending for day's end for my birthday 2025 celebration. Customer service is very attentive and on point. I requested for two flavors in two respective small cups that was similar to vanilla and Nutella and got exactly as I wished. I wanted to thank my server for his recommendations, whom I think his name is William, but he quickly sprinted to the next customer queueing the line waiting to order. Seating is very limited and "first come, first served" basis with the added long line spewing outdoors during the hot and humid summer months. The server pack the cup overflowing more than one standard scoop where the ice cream is spilling as our respective cups were small, but it stack reasonable high. Napkins are available, but limited at the cashier counter. Please be kind to bus your own food waste upon vacating. Four stars, due to the lack of change for cashier operating starting till money. Initially I attempted to pay with a $20.00 bill, but a female worker stated "there is no change," ergo I resorted to pay in credit card method as change is not due. I did receive a printed bill with great acquiesce. For stars, for small amounts, I prefer to payment with cash. small cup × 2 ($9.10 each) = $18.20 Vaniglia bourbon This is close to the classic favorite, high quality Madagascar Bourbon vanilla. Gianduia "A perfect pairing of rich chocolate blended with intense roasted hazelnuts sourced from the elevated farmlands of the Langhe region in Piedmont. This signature flavor emulates the robustly sweet, nutty flavor of Italy's famous Gianduiotto chocolates." source: Riva Reno's website menu description. One word: delicious. I skipped the nuts, but the flavor is highly enticing to my interest. I love Nutella as it reminisce a previous visit to Paris, France.

It's a bit overpriced and the teas are not good quality. However, the desserts are delicious. I usually split a slice of basque cheesecake with my friends. The regular and matcha have both been good in my experience. I don't like chocolate cake, so I haven't tried that variety. I wish the pumpkin was available in the smaller size too! I've tried their boba, and it isn't good. The hot teas are okay but not great. They're pretty much just syrup and milk. I would avoid the drinks and just get the desserts! I haven't personally tried the bingsoo, but I've heard good things. The waffle is alright--all in all, come here to recharge and for the basque cheesecake!

There are 2 other Buvettes in Asia and one coming soon in London. Buvette does not do reservations. Buvette is a charming but tiny/cramped space, made more tiny within the last year by NYC's removal of pandemic-era street patios which greatly helped dining capacity. Buvette may sometimes have a few front sidewalk tables, and there's a tiny outdoor patio in the back. The tables and dishware are also tiny. There's a kitchen in the back, but some food is also prepared below the bar in front, where there seem to be some ovens. The food seems reliably consistent here. The menu is short but there are daily specials. I ordered a non-alcoholic ginger soda, crab tartine (a special), lobster a l'Americaine (lobster pot pie) and frites. The soda is always on the menu and is refreshing, with a nice snap of ginger. The crab tartine was fab, a fresh crab salad with avocado atop toast. The lobster pot pie was made in the under-bar oven, a small serving of lobster and veggies with a golden puff pastry topper. Delish. The frites were nicely crisp, served with an aioli. Service was okay, but my hot food took about 45 minutes to come out, apparently because my ticket was lost. Overall a pleasant meal, my first during this visit.
