Now the tech was a master electrician which was nice but even incorporating fixed overhead and labor costs, $250 an hour is insulting. Time to find a new electrician, I guess.

I just relocated to the Minneapolis area in May, 2021. Not until we got some significant rain in August did I realize there were some issues with the electrical in/leading to the garage. After rain, or heavy watering on the lawn, the power to the garage would cut out - the breaker tripped and we'd have to reset it. Eventually the fuse blew and I knew we needed some pro help. I spoke with several other electricians, and John was the only one who happily provided a rough estimate on timing/cost prior to coming out - with the huge caveat that he'd need to investigate to give us a real estimate. Regardless, he immediately put my mind at ease that this wouldn't be the budget-ending project I initially feared. He also was not at all in the sales mindset, and encouraged me to get second opinions, estimates, etc. since he didn't want to push me in any one direction. He books out several weeks - John is in high demand! - but had a cancellation and snuck us in on a Friday morning. John was in and out of the house in less than a few hours, he fixed the problem AND found a few small changes we could make to future-proof our wiring. And best of all, he did all of this for thousands less than I had been quoted by other companies. I will hands-down recommend John to anyone who needs an electrician in the area!

It's a small team of very professional and friendly people who know what they're doing and do it quickly and efficiently. I still contact other companies for estimates to compare, as I always do when contracting work on my home, but American comes in well under every time. This past week they were out here running an extremely long conduit to wire a hot tub, and while at it they wired our new sauna as well. We even had an issue where we needed to get the tub's breakers from our old house to install here, and John sent another electrician over to do that immediately. I'd had another well-rated company come out for an estimate and they quoted $6,500 just for the hot tub. American did that plus the sauna plus getting those parts from across town for less than half that and got it done in half a day.

There was so much damage that the unit was unsalvageable. An estimator came out that same day to talk to me about replacing the unit. It was over 15 years old so I was kind of expecting it. The estimator did not pressure me whatsoever and I ended up getting a quote for a furnace and AC unit replacement. The quote was thorough and after researching everything, I determined it was a fair deal. I went ahead with the purchase and they were out a few days later to get the job done. I cannot begin to tell you how incredibly professional and personable everyone was. They did a stellar job replacing everything and I had no idea how big of a difference this upgrade would make. Additionally, the small details didn't go unnoticed. The new vent going outside, the thermostat and even the Rumpca sticker on the ducts were level and neat. My 97 year old Mother had these rip off artists come out to her home twice within a week or so. The…read morefirst time was to figure out why her toilet kept running. The guy that was out there took his sweet ol' time and finally just put a new flapper in the tank and charged her $340!! The second time was to put new shutoff valves on the upstairs and downstairs toilets. They told her that seeing she was in Ramsey county they couldn't shut her water off without permission from St. Paul. Which is total BS, especially when she has a shutoff on her main water line coming into the house. They said seeing as their business wasn't located in that area they couldn't do the work. But later on in the day, the owner called and said they could work around that by "freezing her pipes" and the charge would be $1000!!!! She talked to me, her son, and I told her this is total crap. She ended up calling someone else who shut her main water valve off in the basement and replaced both valves for $250! She had used Rumpca for about 30 years and we have figured out that they have been ripping her off for all those years. My advice is to stay away from these scumbags and call a reputable plumber.
