My mother-in-law needed a place she could afford with just her disability and social security income. We assumed she would be lucky to get anything and did not have high hopes. We have not seen my mother-in-law this happy in a long time. Previously, she basically sat in her studio apartment smoking cigarettes, drinking diet coke and waiting to die. Now she eats actual, well planned meals, sitting with the same group of cronies each meal. She can't smoke in her room, so she's getting a little exercise each day walking out to the smoking area. She goes to watch movies with friends in the common area. Despite having recently begun hospice care, she looks healthier that she has in years. I will now take my son to see her since there are places we can visit with her that aren't clouded in decades of old smoke and nicotine. One would think that a place that would accept her (based on her income and credit rating) would have been the dredges of nursing homes, but this place is clean, well organized and pleasant to visit. On par with a Holiday Inn. The staff is exceedingly helpful and friendly. They helped her hang her posters and will come get her with a wheelchair at 3 am if she "needs" a smoke and is not up to the task of walking at that time of night. They provide activities for all abilities and welcome visitors to join. She says the food is pretty good too, high praise coming from a woman who has had no interest in eating for several years. A few nights ago, she mentioned after dinner to a friend that her grilled cheese sandwich was cold. The chef approached her and asked if she wanted fries with her new sandwich. Later that evening, a hot sandwich and crispy fries were delivered to her room. We will always be grateful to this place for giving her a happy, comfortable place to live out the rest of her life.

The nurses and staff provided not only excellent medical attention but also genuine compassion that made a difficult time much easier. I want to recognize Taze in the Customer Relations Department for being incredibly kind, understanding, and supportive--always making sure I felt heard and cared for. A very special thank you to Ms. Candi, the Admission Supervisor, whose professionalism, guidance, and dedication were absolutely exceptional. She made the entire admission process smooth and stress-free, and her support never wavered. I also want to highlight Christine, one of the therapists, and her entire team. Their expertise, encouragement, and positive energy made such a difference in my recovery. They truly went above and beyond to help me heal and regain confidence. Being injured and in need of aftercare was not easy, but the team here went above and beyond to make sure I had the care, comfort, and dignity I needed. I am deeply grateful for their compassion and commitment, and I would highly recommend this facility to anyone in need of quality healthcare and rehabilitation. J.Martinez B wing Room 22

He had been hospitalized 2 or 3 times at the end of last year and began the conversation w/ medical staff about a referral to palliative care as well as starting the process of physician assisted death, which thankfully is an option in California. We had a telephone conference w/ the palliative care folks in early February and it became clear to us all that hospice was the agency that would be most appropriate to his case. The referral was made and the multidisciplinary hospice team was amazing, warm supportive to us all, available as needed. They arranged for medical equipment to make Alan more comfortable, including a better quality hospital bed. They arranged for him to have a massage. We had not had previous experience w/ hospice and I can unequivocally recommend Kaiser's hospice care. Tammy, who had experience w/ another hospice organization w/ her late grandmother several years ago, said the experience this time was much better. Alan's life ended March 27 and we miss him very much but are glad he was able to prioritize his quality of life over its longevity.

This review is…read moreintended to inform folks considering this place, which is actually a few different homes in same area under same management. Meina Wu, the RN who runs these homes, has a domineering stubborn streak which makes communication difficult, and readily admitted that they "do not give medication" - which in her own unique way says that they cannot handle elders who have a very detailed medication list or have significant care needs. Yet she DOES care about her residents and can handle those with simple needs such as feeding, cleaning, peace of mind, and simple medication. Unfortunately I cannot recommend RN3LovingCareHomes. 921 Elm was the location that our Mom stayed in, among 3 board and care houses in a row where workers shifted from one to the next. The good: the CNA's , caregivers, and helpers are all well intended, caring, sincere, and very hard working people, so again: if your Mom or Grandpa does not need much medication or medical help of any importance, this could be a great place to take them. The bad: if your loved one is in need of important, detailed medicine or has care needs that might include bandaging wounds, physical therapy, intensive care, or simply night care that involves changing a diaper, taking to the bathroom often, or has falling issues, etc, then this is NOT the place to take them. We had to constantly monitor these people: it took numerous visits by Kaiser Home Health Care nurses and PT's just to scratch the surface. They had to train the workers in many basic medical practices such as dressing and bandaging wounds and giving medication properly. In fact I personally had to instruct each caregiver how to dispense my Mom's meds and I do not work in the medical field in any way. The understanding of the English language is so poor here, most of them could not even understand the medication list even when it was clearly revised twice by the HHC nurses ! On so many occasions, I caught them about the give the wrong dose because they could not simply understand adding a 10 mg pill to a 2.5 mg pill to make a total dose of 12.5 ! Again there were major road blocks because of language comprehension. Also of concern is they give medicine by hand, often not washing hands between activities (!) On the first night that we hired night care, Meina told this person to stand outside the room, and we reported this to the agency. Meina told us that her caregivers could sleep on the couch and "hear" if my Mom was having any problems and then take care of it. Beyond the idiocy of this idea, there is the simple fact that on most nights the in house caregiver sleeps way down the hall. If a resident needs help they are out of luck and up a creek without a paddle. The one caregiver provided needs to sleep at night to function the next day and only gets up a couple times to check in on residents. In fact we ended up hiring a night sitter from a 24 hour care company to stay with my Mom. There is no way that an elderly resident with anything like Alzheimer's or recovering from a stroke with a fall-risk or maybe just has to use the bathroom or get changed often, can be safe and comfortable. This extra help costs were about $1000 per week, so that brought our bill for the month to about $10,000 when added to the board and care rent. The upshot is that it is incredibly difficult to find ANY board and care facility that has the medical knowledge and staff to handle ANYONE with significant needs, and Meina's RN3 LovingCareHomes are not exception. Unless your loved on has very simply care needs such as being fed and cleaned, this place will not be safe. I give two stars for the things they do well for simple needs elders, and again they all were really wonderful people, but as described here-in, for our Mom that was by far not nearly enough.

We had the opportunity to remain there, but my mother was very depressed there It was not what I wanted for her during this challenging time of her life. In April 2008, I was referred to several care homes in my area by http://www.aplaceformom.com. The home is clean, has lots of light and a beautiful back yard. My mother was only eating purified foods with a thickener. The owner, Rey Lee said they would work on that so she can start to enjoy regular foods. Well, by the end of the week she was eating solid foods. I also noticed her spirits were up. The care givers were compassionate, caring, respectful and kind to her and our family. This care home is one of two right next door that is owned by Rey. The women next door would also visit my mother. They spoke to her in her native language (Tagalog). I was very happy about that because I do not speak or understand the language. This was very healing for her to speak in her first language. The care givers were also proficient in English and I did not experience any problems communicating with any of them. In March 2010, we entered her in hospice at the care home. The care givers and hospice team worked well together to give my mother the best care during this time. They prayed with my mother, spent time with her watching television and made her feel like part of a family while I or my family was not there. I received a call early in the morning in January 2011 that my mother was not responsive and was experiencing labored breathing. I called my family and those closest to my mother of the sad news. We all came to visit her one last time and the care givers were very accommodating and answered my family's questions and concerns. We were there for nearly 9 hours. I am grateful for Rey and his team of care givers for the life they provided my mother during her last few years of her life.

If you are looking for a clean, professional, loving, caring, and dedicated facility for your loved…read moreone; look no further. This is a beautiful space where people go to recover, rehabilitate, and restore their dignity and their lives. My 69 year old mother was a patient here and when she arrived doctors could arguably confirm she should be going into hospice, but we believed in God for her recovery - thankfully the owner Jim believed she could recover also. When she arrived she could not speak, feed herself well, and was physically weak all over. I was SO anxious to leave her in this state, but was immediately assured by staff that she was in good hands, and that she was safe. They nurtured her as if she were their family and I knew then even more that we chose the correct location. Within weeks she saw an eye doctor, physical therapist, speech therapist and occupational therapist. She participated in multiple types of activities (finger painting, gardening, celebrating birthdays, and her favorite - bingo!). After a month my mom graduated from puréed foods to a better diet, could feed herself, had less confusion, and was improving every single day. I am now happy to report she is even stronger, mind is sharper, speech is amazing, and can tackle occupational tasks that this facility assisted her to accomplish. It is the little things that we do every single day that we don't realize we miss until we don't have them. When we find ourselves in this place we need somewhere to go to recover - this is your place! The owner (Jim) will acknowledge you, spend time to speak with you, and the way he looks after his employees and is always upgrading the space shows deeply how much he cares. In my moms time there, they completed a beautiful remodel. Not once did this facility wreak of any smell. Jim - as I write this tears fill my eyes. I am SO thankful to God for your work! I am thankful for your spirit, and for showing up as your true authentic self! To ALL of the staff of Richmond Post Acute - you are all SO valued! You are all SO amazing! I pray you know just how much of an impact you are to the lives you touch! I pray that favor falls upon you. From the peace within my spirit - vibrant love and gratitude to you all!
