This location should just close for good. I have had issues in the past with them closing earlier than posted on the door. Not by a couple of minutes but over an hour early. This Sunday afternoon was the last straw for me. I took some kids into the store for ice cream. It was 4:00 and there was only one other customer in the store. The lady working the register refused to scoop ice cream. She said she was short handed and busy. The only other customer looked like a friend and they were just talking. She was rude in the process. When you say Rite-Aid... I say Right On! It's Day 11 in California's Coronavirus/Shelter-in-Place, and it's time for me to replenish some home supplies. I swung by Mill Valley's Whole Foods Market shopping center, and there was literally a line out the door to get inside. You'd think they were waiting to get into a nightclub. In any case, I didn't feel like waiting in line, so I went a few doors down to Rite Aid. And lo and behold, the place was empty! I had the whole store to myself! They have everything here - toiletries, cleaning supplies, canned food items, cheap booze, and other basic household necessities. (Before you get too excited, I have to report that are also out of toilet paper right now.) On my most recent visit, I stumbled upon their $1 section. It's like a mini Dollar Store. And I was excited to discover that they sell dog treats/bones/toys for just a buck. These items would normally be 5x the cost at Safeway, and at least 10x the cost at most pet stores. Needless to say, I stocked up for a month! This particular Rite Aid is located in the Alto Shopping Center (next to Whole Foods, Pet Food Express, and the Mill Valley Post Office). There's always plenty of parking, and there's never a long line at the check-out stand. If you don't need kale or tofu from Whole Foods and just need basic home goods/snacks, skip the lines and go to Rite Aid. read more

The worst and most painful COVID 19 vaccine shot and protocol. I got my first shot on schedule. The pharmacist who gave me the shot made it the most painful shot I ever had. I felt like he tried to get the needle to completely traverse the entire width of my arm. Then, when he pressed the vaccine liquid... he did it so hard and quickly that it felt like an explosion inside my arm. I am pretty pain tolerant, but this was pretty unbearable. So, next they schedule the second shot for a month later. Then, Rite Aid sends me several sets of emails and text rescheduling my appointment for 4 days earlier. This was breaching the Moderna protocol that mandates that the two shots should be 28 days apart. But, given all the complication in scheduling COVID vaccines, I was not going to argue. And, 4 days difference is unlikely going to make much of a difference. So, I show up on the rescheduled time on time. Now, the same fellow who gave me the shot looks at me like I am an idiot to show up 4 days earlier than the mandated protocol. He tells me that Rite Aid had contacted me the previous weekend to confirm the appointment on the original correct date. I tell him that Rite Aid instead did contact me this weekend to actually confirm my appointment at the weird time 4-days earlier than protocol. And, I showed him the email confirmation. His attitude was that I was pretty much an idiot to show up at the time I did. And, he blamed me for an error that Rite Aid did. Another pharmacist that saw what was going on, apologized to me on behalf of Rite Aid. This is a message to the owner of this local Rite Aid: I did not get the name of this egregiously bad employee within the pharmacy department. But, I can describe him precisely. He is very short, under 5'4 or so, very light (probably less than 110 pounds), pretty young (early mid 30s max), short black hair with kind of a bowl cut. read more

I like Rite Aid. Depending on the specific store, sometimes I prefer Rite Aid and other times I prefer Walgreen's. In Mill Valley, I prefer Walgreen's because it is particularly organized as far as Walgreen's go and because of its awesome drive-through pharmacy. However, if I'm headed up East Blithedale, I will definitely stop at Rite Aid for my drug store needs. Rite Aid has a full, well-priced alcohol section, lots of food, greeting cards, and, of course, tons of toilettries. I have not done an exact price comparison but I believe that Rite Aid is slightly less expensive than Walgreen's. I also bought a 20-pound bag of dog food for Ruggles here (pretty big considering he's only 25 pounds!) and, even though he is a very picky eater, he seemed to really like it. Rite Aid can definitely get the job done so stop on in if you need something simple...! read more

This one has the same reasonable beer prices, overworked but generally friendly staff, and stupid wellness card as all the other locations. This was my first visit to the pharmacy and I was very disappointed. My prescription was called in at 7:30 am and when I went by at 12:15 it wasn't ready. When I asked the employee helping me what time they received my prescription the pharmacist Kuang cut her off and said they were very busy and it would be another 15 mins and that I better be sure to come back before 12:30 when the pharmacist takes lunch! I am a practicing physician who attempted to leave an Rx.. After calling multiple (4) times and being rotated back to the original Rite Aid greeting, my fifth call went through to the pharmacist. He was incredibly rude and refused to take a verbal Rx for an antibiotic. He stated that prescriptions could only be placed electronically and that he was all by himself and hung up. Verbal prescriptions ARE VALID! This was at 4:37 PM on 9/8/22. Needless to say,he has lost me, several colleagues and a group of patients that will refrain from utilizing the services of 701 E. Blithedale Ave. in Mill Valley. First time in 40 years that I encountered such unprofessional service. Most pharmacists work synergistically with their medical colleagues. Sad! read more

This review is more about the Manager at this location, than RiteAid. I have shopped the Blithedale location for 30+ years. Many of my garden aesthetic treasures were 'sourced' here. While I have no experience with the Pharmacy, the Store Manager has kept this store afloat during 2 years of pandemic crisis, often with a severely curtailed staff. The store is 'old' and shows it. But the entire shopping center has been there for decades and does MV really want to see any more construction right now? (currently in midst of E. Blithedale mess). Some of the staff are new and not always adroit with customer service. But to be fair, 'customers' are people, and people can uncool. As I do my weekly 'Whole Foods & USPS' run, I always make a stop at RiteAid and am rarely disappointed with product. Most recently, my remote work requires phone authentication with my AM login, so when my iPhone screen was smashed beyond use, I was able to purchase an android online/pick it up/activate it all within hours and login seemlessly the next day. I still love my iPhone, but I didn't miss a beat with work. This is my go-to pharmacy, both for medications and toiletries. Actually, Amazon has become my go-to for toiletries, but more on that in a sec. Pharmacy: I have had *great* experience with this pharmacy. The staff is a million times nicer and more helpful than the staff at nearby Pharmaca. They answer the phone, they call me back, they find out info if they don't have it. I've simply had zero problems here over about 10 years. Toiletries: Tons of products, but not the ones I'm looking for. It is frustrating to buy something here once, never to find it in stock again. Olay SPF30 for sensitive skin, for example: Used to carry it, then the slot where it *should be* is empty for 2 or 3 months, then the store is rearranged. Should I look under sunscreen? (sunscreens can be found in at least 4 locations in the store). Under moisturizers? Under skincare? Nope, I should look on Amazon. Thanks to Amazon prime and the difficulty of finding products, the ratio of Rite Aid buying:Amazon buying has shifted from 80%:20% a year or two ago to 10%:90% today. It just isn't worth my time to wander around and find 200 moisturizers, none of which are the one I"m looking for...The staff is friendly and nice; I've never had an unpleasant experience. I would love to give this a 5-star rating. Instead, it's 5 stars for the pharmacy, 1 star for the rest. read more

This Rite-Aid is GORGEOUS. Wide, spacious, meticulously arranged aisles. Huge, well-marked signage hanging to guide you in the right direction. Odd interaction with the check out clerk-- before I could even say anything she started apologizing for charging 5c per bag. I told her she didn't need to apologize, she's just doing her job, and she looked visibly relieved. She said people come in and give her a hard time for charging a nickle per paper bag. Come on, Mill Valley. Do better. She doesn't control that. I left with a ton of stuff to hold me over with this awful cold and I will definitely come back to this Rite-Aid instead of the one closer to me because of how beautifully everything is laid out and how well stocked everything was. Your pharmacist working there last night was absolutely awesome. I urgently needed the medication prescribed by my daughter's pediatrician for her ear infection last night. When I got to CVS, the pharmacy was closed. When I got to your pharmacy, it was closed as well, but your pharmacist was still there. He was willing to help me fill the prescription. With his help, I got the medication which helped my daughter ease the pain she was experiencing. She slept really well. I just couldn't image how much my daughter would suffer without the mediation. I came to your store with my children and as a black person, I always teach them that everybody is created the same and that they should always treat others as they would like to be treated. I used my atm to purchase a few items in your store and wanted to get forty dollars cash back the gentleman cashier told me he doesn't have money to give me cash back . I was very surprised and angry at the same time because I have gone to much smaller businesses and have always been to get my cash back. Is this something your store does normally and why would you have the cash back option if your workers are going to be discriminating against certain people or people of color. I stopped into Rite Aid to try and find an ointment for my son. He was bit by a nasty spider and was itching all over and in agony. I had gone to the allergy isle in an attempt to find and topical ointment to sooth his itching and burning. I was there for awhile wandering around at a loss looking at muscle pain ointments and other products like sunscreen. One of your employees approached me and asked if I needed help, and I said no, because I'm a guy I guess, but I changed my mind and told her my predicament. She took me away from the isle I was in and to the first aid shelf, where there were tons of products to choose from. She recommended one, and I took her recommendation. When I got home, I used the ointment on my son, and it worked immediately. Not only was it a topical ointment for itching and burning, but it also contained benadryl, which stopped the allergic reaction. The lady really new her stuff, and my experience with Rite Aid was a great one thanks to her. I believe her name was Darlene or something.
