I hadn't been faced with living in Switzerland for any length of time in thirty (yes, that's 3 0)…read moreyears since I was going to school in Neuchâtel. And you'd think some things might have changed in that period of time, right? Wrong. Not here. Not even in Geneve where I'll be hanging out for awhile. Honestly I had forgotten that everything's closed on Sunday. Grocery stores, cafés, etc.. I was beginning to think I'd have to eat frozen pizza from the mini-mart at the gas station but I happened to notice that a restaurant that was closed when I'd passed by earlier was now open. And that would be Le Nouveau Lido Chez Ana. It's just a nice medium sized local hangout. Lot's of people were there watching football (not the American kind). It has a bar but families were eating there too. And the food! Excellent! I had the Veal Cordon Bleu. It came with an extremely fresh mixed green salad that included some shredded carrot, tomato, a little onion and a little corn. They bring the vinegar and oil to your table. And the bread? I had forgotten just how good a Swiss baguette tasted. But the Veal was amazing, truly. perfectly prepared. The ham, the cheese, the breading! All of it was spot-on. It was accompanied with perfectly sautéed vegetables (some type of squash, carrot and peppers) and of course the requisite pomme frites. I'm very serious about pomme frites or French fries. Whichever you prefer. These were good but if they'd been a little crispier we'd be in serious five star territory (see, I told you I was serious). And to top everything off they were even nice to someone who's French is even worse than his Japanese. I will definitely be back. Probably this week even.
