Great to find a pub that has a good restaurant but with a bar where you can walk in for a pint…read more Shame it is so far away from where we live or I would be in there almost every evening. We booked for Sunday lunch with some friends. A pub that was half way between us. We walked in to a very friendly atmosphere. We noticed that the restaurant was ready laid and apart from the bar. Immediately we sat down drinks order was taken and, what seemed immediately, drinks arrived. Great service, so far. We all ordered their Sunday roast. Choice of four or five meats. The plates of food arrived, the HOT plates. Now that was a nice change. Normally it is on cold plates. Kept the food hot throughout the eating. The plates were overflowing with delicious meats, numerous vegetables, real roast potatoes and a large Yorkshire pud. So much that a few of us never did finish it all. Coffee was delicious, well after that meal we couldn't face a dessert. Service was brilliant and friendly, yet professional. Would I go back again. A definite YES.

The beer is always good and shows that they take care and pride in the maintenance of the beer lines. Food is typical pub food, it's not a gastro pub and doesn't pretend to be. Portions sizes are reasonable as are the prices, food is always served hot and prompt. The real jewel in the crown though is the beer garden, a raised patio gives way to a nice lawned play area perfect for kids and all surrounded by trees that border the fields it sits within. Dogs are allowed but obviously kept on leads. Slightly off the beaten track but worth finding, especially on a hot summers day.

They make you feel welcome if you are not one if the regulars and this is always nice as you are made to feel wanted by the pub and people within it. Due to it being a bit out of the way you dont generally get a large crowd in there and the main drinking age range must be late 20's and upwards. Their resturant does some amazing food, at a very good price. The plates where always full of tender meat and perfect roast potatoes. There is a pool table and a dart board for those of you who like to play, and some nice tables and chairs to have a relaxing drink while you banter with the bar maids.

Me and my partner made a spur of the moment decision to have sunday lunch at the horse and groom…read moreabout a month ago, and have to say we were very disappointed with our meal. The roast beef was good, but the vegetable were very poor and very small portions - 3 very small roast potatoes, some non-descript carrotts and the meanest portion of cabbage and for £10 we expected better. However, the gravy was the most strange thing - a bright orangey colour! and quite unpleasant. I have given the horse and groom 3 stars becuase it is very nice inside, and the welcome was friendly to us who had never been there before. I wouldn't dismiss it and hope that it was just an off day, I alway tell the staff when I'm unhappy with my food and was offered a free dessert/coffee. I may well try it again in the future, though for £17 for a steak, it had better be good.
