The food arrived quickly, was beautifully plated, and delicious. The continuously refilled coffee was deliciously addictive and worthy on its own of multiple return visits. My husband picked the "Heavens to Betsy," a scrumptious plate of everything from eggs to biscuits and gravy, potatoes and sausage, which put a big smile on his face. And after I specifically explained that I wanted warmed toast, not cold bread. I still got untoasted bread served to me. My friend's food was inedible. Cold grits and rock solid stale and cold English muffins underneath her eggs Benedict. After our drinks came out we asked for napkins. Then when our food came out we had to ask for silverware. They were having a terrible time busing and setting tables back up. Even when it appeared they had plenty of servers on staff for the size of the restaurant. And yes the restaurant is dated. The bench we were sitting on had springs that are a few visits away from busting through the fabric and the other side of the table offers wooden chairs that have been there way too long. And as soon as you walked into the bathroom you were greeted with an over flowing trashcan that appeared it hadn't been emptied in days... My other friend who is a brand inspector for a restaurant chain does numerous scheduled and unscheduled visits across the Southeast each week. She decided to ask for the manager. Because she always says, they can't fix what they don't know is broken. When we showed her the cold bread we were served and the inedible plate of food, instead of apologizing and asking how she could help. She proceeds to tell us that the kitchen doesn't like the amount of time it takes to actually make toast, so they turn the temperature down and are knowingly sending out cold untoasted bread. WOW! I was shocked that this behavior is known and tolerated. And the fact that she would tell us, is TMI, and extremely unprofessional. There are too many great local options in town to settle. Everything is expensive, so when spending money to celebrate a friend's birthday, you want everything to be great. Poor Deb was apologizing to all of us because she had picked to go here. My hopes of writing this review is to help the Charleston Hospitality Group. I hope they'll take the time to do an inspection and some training to help get this location back to its glory days.

Combined with the pie crust, it reminded me of a slice of Chicago deep dish pizza! My husband and I also shared the following: cinnamon rolls, salted caramel brownie and a white chocolate raspberry bread pudding muffin. All were huge, rich in flavor and very satisfying. I saw the herbs/seasonings underneath the cheese, but did not taste it at all. To each their own, but this in no way tastes like the classic southern tomato pie I grew up loving.
