This gym has one goal and one goal only. Depending on the day, I have heard nothing but encouragement and boot camp shout outs from the trainers. Their method of getting you into shape is not for the weak. They open before the crack of dawn. This type of gym is what I would consider open air. It almost has the appearance of what was once a garage shop that fixed cars. On both sides of the gym they have garage doors that stay open. read more

There are no words to express how much I love this box. It is a community, it is a culture, it is a lifestyle, full of challenges as well as rewards. But I enjoy everything about it from the encouraging and extremely patient coaches to the amazing new friends I've made. Friends that help me and cheer me on as if I've known them for years and not just 2 mos. No matter how stressful my job is or how frustrating life's disappointments have been, I know that I can walk in here and for 1 1/2 hours everything is ok in the world. It's a positive vibe, an overwhelming feeling of happiness, part of the balance of my life. Whenever people used to say to me "everything happens for a reason" I would hear "i feel sorry for you." But one Saturday I pulled up to this garage looking gym and all the lights were off and I thought they were closed. I finally got off the couch and headed over. Mind you I'm terribly out of shape so my initial fear was passing out in front of everybody. You first walk-in and see these phenomenal athletes pushing themselves and of course I was automatically intimidated. Just as that's starting to sink in, we were greeted by Gilbert and he calmed the storm just as fast. His warm approach and introduction stirred up a fire in my belly and I was ready for action. This is a great gym in general, my girlfriend and I dealt with Corey directly about visiting while on vacation and it was a great environment! We had to scale/modify because of our knees from running a while back and they were able to do it right on the spot and show us the movements. Corey really helped with the details of the workout not just with us but with the class as well and really took the time to go through the movements to insure that no one would be hurting themselves in the long term. Dropped in here during a recent visit to Florida. The gym is on the smaller side, but they had ample room for a class and all the necessary equipment. Plus, most gyms have 1 garage door, but Riptide has large doors on 3 out of the 4 walls, which makes air flow nicely through the space. This may sound like a strange thing to notice, but during a workout in the Florida heat, this comes in handy. Good workouts that focus on strength and technique. Riptide isn't one of those gyms that just wants you to throw around heavy weights, their programming makes you a solid all-around athlete. The coaching was great, and I got some helpful pointers. Additionally, there was a great sense of community and friendly people. Next time I'm in Ft. Lauderdale, I will go back to Riptide. read more

I moved to the Fort Lauderdale area in Jan of 2015. I tried several boxes in the area prior to making my way over to Riptide, and I have to say this is by far the best box I tried. The coaches were immediately welcoming, introducing themselves and the class to me. They spend time focusing on mobility AND strength, not just a brutal series of metcons every day (though the metcons are varied and constantly challenging for sure), and most importantly, that welcome introduction on my first day was not just a fluke. In my few weeks at the box, you really get a sense of how important building a community is to everyone there. On top of that, the coaches are talented, informed, and most importantly they care about your development. Definitely a stand out among the other boxes in the area. This gym is AWESOME... I was in pretty good shape when I had my first "WOD" (which stand's for work out of the day for anyone who hasn't tried Crossfit) My class was made up of men and women of various different ages and fitness levels... Our instructor, who I believe was from Boston, was a Hot Irishman named Rob. Rob walked everyone through the correct postures, encouraged us all individually, and still managed to keep the class energized and fun... I was seriously impressed... I also got one of the best workouts of my life! When I signed up for my first Crossfit session... I expected it to be a gym full of super humans all lifting 1000lbs with their pinky... That's what a lot of the reviews on other area Crossfit gyms described, at Riptide, I received an entirely different experience, the staff are all friendly and personable "normal" people, the gym is not pretentious at all. I felt welcomed immediately and not intimidated... I did however get my butt kicked by my instructor and had a Fantastic time! Great neighborhood gym I will definitely be working out at all summer! You will never find another crossfit like this one. It is a total community. The owners make every class fun and a guaranteed good work out. I love everyone who belongs to this box. Everyone is super welcoming to new comers, everyone pushes eachother to be better and there is a competitive aspect that is great for making yourself stronger. If you like working out but prefer to do it in a social setting, like me, then there is that aspect as well. This xfit has all ages that attend and they tailor the workouts for everyone so that we all can still compete against eachother no matter what level/sex/age you are. Been going here for over 3 years and absolutely love it. The coaching staff invests a great amount of time in the results you are looking for. They work around all individuals young, old, injured etc... Not only do we train together, but we also at times have special events where camaraderie is formed. I don't consider the staff and members of Riptide acquaintances but more like family. Riptide was the first and only crossfit gym I have ever experienced, but one of the best decisions I made. If you are considering crossfit, but are apprehensive, I have been in your shoes and would just advise that you give it a shot. There are no short cuts to getting in shape, so understand that it's not for people who aren't determined. If you are insecure, don't be, I have the utmost respect and admiration for anybody that participates in a 60 minute crossfit class. I have been attending class for the last 6 months non-stop, mostly 4 times a week and I can honestly say I look forward to the days workout even when I'm rolling out of bed unable to move from the prior day's WOD. The coaches and the classes are why I keep going. Corey, Najeeb, and Santi are very welcoming and engaged in every class. They energize me when I may be feeling unmotivated that particular day, they provide positive encouragement when I'm feeling unsure about my technique or performance, and they always push me to progress and achieve more than I did yesterday. I really admire all 3 of them for the leadership they provide to the class and the culture that they have created at Riptide. If you are unsure about the monthly cost, I am not really sure how it compares, but I have always been satisfied with what my monthly fee covers and I enjoy supporting the local small business.
