My stylist (Kristy) was so sweet and fully understood my poor explanation of what I was looking for from my hair. We had great conversation and she worked quick while still maintaining integrity and quality in her work. I've had poor salon experiences in the past that make me wary of finding a good stylist in fear or finding the bad ones and having a terrible cut, but I can confidently say that I will be returning and requesting Kristy when I do. read more

What can I say, Teri Ecker is amazing. She gave me not a only an excellent haircut, but she gave me so many things to think about: haircare and quite honestly, what would look good on me. I certainly didn't know any better. Since I haven't had a haircut in 2 1/2 years, I told Teri to give me short cut, 1.5 clippers on the sides and back, and leave it a little longer on top. Got a perm from the guy. He is constantly checking his phone texting. Had perm running solution down my blouse. Doesn't bother to give you a towel to keep solution out of your eyes. I have short hair. Perms start at $85.00 but mine cost $110.00. Not sure how that was calculated. He didn't even ask what size rods I normally use. Barely rinsed the neutralizer out of my hair. Rio is a great place to go for competent and quality work. Sarenna Morrow has done my hair since beauty school and I followed her to this salon! Worth it. Sarenna does cut and color on me. I have curly, thick coarse hair and she tames this mane like no other! She has done several colors, vibrant to balayage, an A-line cut, thinning and layering, her hair washes are amazing, and she always deep conditions which makes the experience that much better! I've come in with a rat's nest and leave with gorgeous hair! I've also had electrolysis done by Terri. She is so knowledgeable and helpful. I was nervous about getting it done, but after Terri explained the process, my worries were cast aside. She's very efficient and keeps you posted on what is happening, which eases your mind. The process is uncomfortable at times, but totally worth it to get rid of those darn chin hairs! This is going to be my honest, unbiased review of Rio Hair Salon. I found this place through a Facebook page and one of the stylists, Sarenna was offering a $10 off deal on any hair service. I've been meaning to do my hair for a long time, and I've grown my hair out so I could do balayage to it. I meet Sarenna on the day of my appointment and I am very excited to get my hair done by her. She was so so nice, and seemed very professional. I loved the environment of the salon and I could tell that I was going to become a regular here. Everything goes well and she is putting in the balayage treatment, standard stuff. Then when we wash out my hair and blowdry it, it has BARELY lifted, my tips were orange. Oh yeah, she also mentions a little later that my tips turned green but she toned it red so it's okay now. She says that has never happened to her so she was worried. Okay this should've been a red flag, but I l ignored it because I DO have darker colored hair that has been tinted red by box dye a few months ago. Anyway, no change really to my hair but everyone kept complimenting Sarenna's work and my hair so I left happy.. I was excited to see what my hair would actually look like when I went back a second time. All right two weeks passes by and my orange tips are now a tinted shade of green. I frantically contact Sarenna and she probably tells me about 5 times that the reason is because of the cheap box dye I put in my hair. Bad chemical reaction she kept saying. She told me that when I come in again she would fix it and it should lift and get the green out. She tells me treatment will be another $110. I paid around $135 last time. I'm getting kinda sketched out because this is getting pricy for a hair treatment that was 0% effective the first time. I was debating or not whether to go through with this second treatment, but I was convinced when Sarenna sent me a long text saying how she doesn't want me to think she's trying to get money out of me and that I'm a "sweet and kind girl" and she would love me to become a regular. She sounded confident that my hair would come out right the second time and the box dye shouldn't be a problem since lifting my hair would resolve whatever problem my hair has. If it doesn't come out the way I want, she wouldn't charge full cost. Okay. So I come in for my second appointment. She does the same exact thing to my hair except she's using a treatment that's clay-based this time- should be stronger for my stubborn hair. She washes out my hair, and I don't hear anything from her. I already knew it was bad at this point and I asked her "is it green again?" and she says "want me to be completely honest?" (uh.. of course...) and she says "yes." Great. She puts red toner in my hair again to neutralize it to an orange. This time I have orange tips except I can still see the green. All of the other salon employees examine my hair and reassures me that it's "fine" and "not even noticeable." Well yes, for now, but what about in a week. Toner isn't permanent and my hair will be straight up green by then. Anyway, Sarenna doesn't charge me (makes sense, my hair is probably dead by now and it's just really ugly). I come home and ask my friends to check my hair- they all tell me they can see green. Even my boyfriend, who literally does not even notice if I cut my hair 4 inches, asked me why I decided to dye my tips green. Wow. Everyone tells me that I need to go back to the salon and demand a refund. But I am a pushover and I didn't want to ruin business for Sarenna because she's so nice. It's been three weeks since my last trip to Rio Salon. I've cut off all the work Sarenna's done on my hair, seriously what a waste of time and money.My hair was literally falling out everywhere because it was so matted and damaged. I was so sad, I was so self conscious and was crying because I ruined my long healthy hair and wasted my money. I text Sarenna again asking what I should do. She keeps saying the same thing about how she can't do anything about my box dyed hair. She's very professional and polite, but bluntly put she has a "not my problem anymore attitude." She suggests I find a different salon to fix my hair, and she's done "everything she can" and "didn't even charge" me for the second treatment. Umm, hello? The second treatment did not fix anything, but made my hair absolutely disgusting. Anyway, I am a reasonable person, and I don't doubt Sarenna's abilities as a hair stylist. This is merely my honest opinion and personal experience here. I believe Sarenna could've taken better precautions, but she seemed like she was trying the best she could at the moment. At the end of the day however, my hair is still green and I am still unhappy. It's mostly my fault for believing she could fix it the second time (she sounded very confident and reassuring when she texted me), and when she couldn't -she blamed my box dyed hair (I get it already). First let me start out by saying this is not a review about Rio Salon, but rather about the hair stylist who has been working on my hair for the past 8 months. Her name is Monica. I write this review to help other people who often, as I did, are looking for that great hair stylist and look to reviews to find that person. I was seeing Monica about every 4 weeks for root tough ups to cover my gray hair, highlights and hair trim. She always got the root tough ups very well however, many times her hair cuts were uneven as she would leave one side longer than the other or not give me the same amount of layers on either side. My highlights were never the color I wanted, however, they were okay. I kept going to her as it was convenient with regards to parking and distance from my home. At times she would have to ask the other stylist for help on what colors to mix for my highlights. One time while rinsing my hair out, she scalded me with hot water. She just turned the water on and put it straight to my hair without checking the temperature. Another time while she was washing the color out my hair she reached for a full bottle of either shampoo or conditioner and dropped it on top of my head. She cancelled an appointment the day of, just hours before, saying that she was sick all week and was not going to keep appointment. If she had called me at least two days before I may have been able to schedule with someone else as I had an event that I was going to be attending that weekend. Another time she cancelled an appointment the day of due to a death in her husbands family. Most recently I showed up for my 12 appointment to find that she was not at the salon. Another stylist called her and advised her that I was there and handed me the phone. Monica stated that she had me down for 2pm. I told her that I was looking at the text that she confirmed with me two weeks previously that we were scheduled for 12. She said she was sorry and that she had just started her eating her lunch. She told me that I could come back at 2 or she could try to be back by 12:45. I decided to come back at 2 as I was going to run an errand. My appointment was for full highlight and root touch up. I asked her for amber highlights and showed her a picture. She stated that the color looked more like a golden blonde even though the picture description said that it was "amber highlights." She proceeded to show me all these hair swatches and asked me which one looked close to the color in the picture. I thought, your the expert, shouldn't you know. She put the highlights in and added a toner. As she was washing my hair I asked her if doing the root touch up would color over the highlights she just put in my hair. She said "oh no it will blend in." After washing my hair I sat back down at the chair and she started trimming my hair. I told her at the start of the appointment that the right side was not even (from her previous hair cut 4 weeks ago) and she still just cut the left side. I told her again that the right side was the side needing evening and she got a little frustrated and said "I did even it out." She put product in my hair and was going to start styling it. I asked her when she was going to do my roots. She said she didn't know that she was supposed to do my roots. I told her that I come in every 4 or 6 weeks specifically for root touch ups. My gray was obviously showing about a half inch. She walked away to mix the color and then came back and said "I don't think your going to be happy with anything I do today and I am feeling a little nervous about continuing with doing your roots. Can you come back on Monday." I told her that I did not want to go through the whole weekend with gray roots. She did complete the touch up however it did cover the highlights that she just put in. She charged me $200 for this unpleasant experience. I told her as I was paying how I was not happy with the results of my hair, having to wait two hours due to her mix up, and the amount she charged. She has always charged me $120 for haircut, root touch up and partial highlights. She charged $10 for the toner and $70 extra for full highlights. I suspect that charged me $200 as a way to tell me that did not want my business. She said that she didn't care if I was not happy with her service. She said that she was having a "good day" and was not going to let me ruin her day. I told her that I would be telling the owner, Terry, about my experience today. She said that she didn't care as Terry couldn't do anything to her as she [Monica] is self employed. She then walked away. Monica does not appear to understand when it comes to providing exceptional customer service at a beauty salon and ensuring a satisfied experience, she needs to keep service standards in perspective and customers in the center of her business. Rio Salon has other hair stylist there that I have observed do a good job. Ezra is one stylist that I would recommend. read more

Going to a platinum blonde is a process that takes time, trust, and lots of patience! Thankfully, having an amazing stylist like Sarenna made it worth the wait. There was no damage to my hair since we used three different appointments over a 2.5 month timeframe and each time she made sure to deep condition, leaving my hair silky smooth. I have been needing to find myself someone I trust to cut my hair and to be my go to girl/guy and I found my girl! Sareena cut my hair recently and I absolutely love it as does my husband! He even said "I love your haircut" which has never happened! Needless to say, I was extremely happy with Sareena and my entire experience at Rio. At the beginning she talked with me to get an idea of what I was wanting/thinking. She asked many questions (which made me feel very comfortable) to ensure she knew exactly what I was wanting. I showed her pictures and we talked about how we could tweak the look from the picture to best suite me, my face and features along with my lifestyle as a Mommy to a toddler. I told her my worries and asked for her recommendations and I love how she completely got me and she helped me decide exactly what to do. Before she started she told me what she was going to do to ensure we were on the same page. She was very kind, knowledgeable and gave me great tips! She also told me everything she was using on my hair as she went along. Let me just say that Sareena cut my hair EXACTLY as she said she was going to, it's perfect. And she cut about 6 inches off! I love it and enjoyed getting to talk with her throughout my appointment. She was very kind and communicated so well with me. This place is ultra clean and cute- parking can be a little bit of a challenge but is located in a business district that has a lot of small boutique places. Immediately coming in one of people who worked there rushed back to get the gal I had the appointment with and offered me some water or tea while waiting for her (which was only one minute). I got a haircut and style for the going rate- Monica did a great job and offered me hair suggestions for my event when I was unsure. She listened to what I wanted and has helped me cover my gray hair and go from hair so long it was past my bottom and impossible to do anything with except put it in a bun to a fabulous style that is easy to maintain as a busy mom and early shift worker. Sarenna, and another woman who works there, Maya were both so sweet and helpful whenever I had questions and incredibly patient as we ordered the hair etc. once the extensions were being taped in, we realized my hair was so thick that I needed more. Sarenna is BY FAR THE BEST, and I have tried a gazillion stylists in Miami, LA, Maui, Chicago, and SLO, among other places!
