This is the best Mexican in the area. We are moving so tonight was our last time. Incredibly delicious as always! The service is great, the music isn't too loud, and the food has been great every time we've been here. They never miss a beat.

@rioazulmemphis I prefer the enchiladas with rice and a chicken taco. It's always delicious. Great service great family owned business. The chips and salsa are always great as well. @yelpmemphis

literally before you think i forgot something, ASK THEM HOW MUCH A CHICKEN, CHEESE AND RICE IS WITH PICO VS WITHOUT. this is PROOF.

I have been patroning this restaurant for almost 5-6 years, and today marks the end!!!! I used to regularly get a to-go order of chicken, cheese, and rice with bell peppers; literally only thing i eat there. Now, I used to think they were constantly upping the prices while I was away at college, so I never said anything--just was curious as to why i'd sometimes need 14 to get my meal and other times 15.... But I recently moved back to the area, and started to add a side of pico de gallo to hopefully cut the occasional saltiness of the dish in recent months, and I noticed everytime I order, depending on WHO takes my order they charge me differently!!!!!! I brought this up to them a few weeks ago, and they dismissed because I had forgot ONE time to add bell peppers. Well TODAY I HAD RECEIPTS!!!!!!!! I showed them how one charges me 16.39 for the dish and the other charges 16.61. While i know it's just a few cents, with how my family and I frequent--it adds up and they've definitely been doing this FOR YEARS TODAY I JUST HAD PROOF. Well, I brought it up again and what did they do??? Dismissed me, act like they were annoyed, and didn't even apologize. Extremely rude, unprofessional that they can't keep up with their prices, and even worse that they clearly don't listen to their loyal customers. Will NEVER come again. Attached is PROOF. don't become a regular because they will cheat you! WHO KNOWS HOW MUCH IVE OVERSPENT DUE TO THE WORKERS NOT AGREEING ON PRICES?!

The fried tacos are G-RRREAT in a Tony the Tiger voice.

We went during lunch time, so there were still quite a few people there. However, we were seated pretty quickly. We immediately received salsa and chips. I ordered queso and it was good and cheesy (I have to emphasize that because I've been to several places and had watered down cheese). Next, we ordered lunch. I tried the fully loaded baked potato. It was good and filled with plenty of vegetables, meat, and cheese. The potato was very fresh. I truly enjoyed it. We also had the Caldo De Camarón soup. It was packed with Shrimp broth with shrimp, onions, potatoes, bell peppers, cilantro and avocado. Too, we had a rice, steak, chicken, and shrimp plate that was topped with lots of queso cheese. Everything was great! The vibe is casual and laid back. We enjoyed our experience.

I ordered the Carne Al Carbon, rehydrated dried beef in rich chili sauce. So good but maybe the only true Mexican like item on the Menu. Along with the regular Mem-Mex food choices that can be found anywhere. Tacos, fajitas, chimichangas and Quesadillas and Margaritas. The guac was some of the best I've had and made fresh; they even ask if you want it smooth or chunky. Tried to get extra mole on the side and was told everything is pre-made and they just heat it up so there was no speciality changes here. Definably family owned and operated as the small grandkids are helping by busing and delivering menu items. Good Vibes served here!

The restaurant was not overly busy, which made the entire experience relaxed and enjoyable from the moment we walked in. The first thing that stood out was the service. Everyone there was welcoming, patient, and genuinely friendly. Since it was our first time trying a few things on the menu, we had several questions, and the staff took the time to explain everything without making us feel rushed. They gave recommendations, explained the toppings and flavors, and helped make ordering easy. I decided to try the specialty hot dogs, and honestly, they were amazing. They were packed with flavor and loaded with fresh toppings that worked perfectly together. The combination of creamy avocado, fresh vegetables, sauces, and perfectly cooked meat created a unique flavor that was both fresh and filling. Every bite had something different going on, and you could tell the ingredients were high quality and made with care. The presentation alone looked incredible, but the taste backed it up completely. The atmosphere was comfortable and casual, making it a great place to sit down and enjoy good food with family or friends. Nothing felt rushed, and the overall vibe made the experience even better. If you are looking for something different from the usual restaurant options and want flavorful food with friendly service, Las Tortugas is definitely worth visiting. We will absolutely be coming back again.

3.5, I think? This was a tough one for me to rate…read more My aunt lives near Las Tortugas and I've been reading about and thinking about visiting for years whenever I'm in the Memphis area. The stars aligned on this most recent visit and so I got to try them. This location in Germantown is a little easy to miss signage-wise, but Google Maps got me here easily. The parking lot is small but paved nicely and easy to navigate. The inside of the restaurant does feel like a deli, with a counter to order at and a small but reasonable amount of seating. The restaurant's accolades are plastered on walls and the glass windows around the food prep area and it's fun to read the history and writing about this place. There is one semi-essay seemingly from the owner, directed at patrons, grousing about customers having certain expectations about the food they're served (Tex-Mex versus authentic Mexican, for example). The owner is adamant that authentic Mexican is served here, and I have no reason to doubt that at all nor expect anything different, but I must admit the tone was rather off-putting. I can see how it would be frustrating to have your food, your work, be misunderstood or misinterpreted, but it kind of felt like I was being lectured when I hadn't done anything, lol. At any rate, I walked up to the counter to order. Service was adequately if not /especially/ friendly. I placed an order for a sandwich (Tortugas de pollo) as well as a limonada (fresh-squeezed limeade) to go. I waited at one of the tables and my order was ready for me in a reasonable amount of time. My favorite thing was the limonada! It had closer to an Icee texture than a juice or limeade texture but I really liked it. Pleasantly sweet and sour and very refreshing. The sandwich was good if not mind-blowing. Maybe my expectations were just a little too high. One problem was that it got pretty soggy very, very fast - it took me less than 10 minutes to get back to my aunt's house and unbox my food and in that time, the bottom piece of bread on my sandwich was close to falling apart. Some of the chicken was also a little too strong-tasting for me; it's hard to describe but I imagine we've all had chicken that's a little too obviously...well, chicken, lol. Not super mild tasting meat, I guess is what I'm trying to say. That aside, I enjoyed the texture of the cheese and the heat of the peppers. The top slice of bread was also nice and crusty. The sandwich came served with a handful of chips less generous than it appears in the photo and some green salsa. The chips were a little over-fried for me but decent enough, and the subtly spicy salsa went well with them. I think the greatest sticking point for me is the price vs. the quantity of food vs. the relative enjoyment. My meal was a solid bit over $30. I prooooobably could've split the sandwich with someone else and been okay, but given the relatively paltry amount of chips, I was also okay eating it as a solo diner. I think if the price had been a little lower, or the portion of chips a little bigger, or the enjoyment of the sandwich a little greater - any one of those things - this would probably round up to a 4. But ultimately the sticker shock and somewhat condescending vibes lead to a lower rating from me. Idk, I would definitely say this restaurant is worth a try and I'm glad I experienced it and would recommend trying it to others who enjoy this type of Mexican food. That said, I'm also not completely confident I'd return on another visit to Memphis. Well, okay, I would definitely for the limonada. That thing was awesome. ;)
