Incredibly wonderful experience and hair-do from Pamela at Ringlets. I've known and been a client of Pamela's for many years. As styles have changed and as I have changed, Pamela has kept me happy and my hair contemporary and stylish. What's best about Pamela is that she asks lots of questions about what I want... i.e. do I want a new look? What look am I trying to project? Do I want color? Being the professional that she is, she also recommends styles, lengths, colors that compliment me. She's honest to say what will and will not work for a particular person's face and body because sometimes we women go in with a picture of a 'do that looks good on someone else but maybe not the best for us. At the same time, she'll recommend what will makes us look absolutely FAB! I got a cut, condition, and color yesterday and called her back today to say THANK YOU because I loved my hair when I walked out, I got compliments from everyone in my networking group this morning (and it looked as great at 6:45 this morning as it did yesterday afternoon!), and it's easy to take care of. When I first came to Ringlets, my hair was fried and thinning due to over processing with relaxers and bad braiding. The first time I walked into Ringlets in late 2012, I was very desperate for a knowledgeable professional to care for my hair without the use of chemicals. Fortunately, Lonzella, a young but very gifted stylist at Ringlets Salon, patiently consulted with me, and began working on my hair immediately afterwards! I have continued seeing "Loni" for over a year now, and needless to say, she had truly brought my hair back to life! Today was my first time at Ringlets Salon. I was in desperate need of a trim and some conditioning. Pamela did both. If you have ever gone to a salon and been disappointed because the stylist just did what she wanted to do and didn't listen to you. Pamela is not like that at all. She was thoughtful and considerate of the way I wanted to wear my hair and my desire not to lose too much length. She gave me suggestion as to how I could improve the condition of my hair over time, but she didn't push products. I left with soft hair and my afro was perfection. Pamela is amazing! After cutting my hair twice with Deva Cut style, I decided this way of cutting does not work at all! They only cut the curls that they think are not healthy and the result is a lot of split ends that do not get cut. In 2 years, my hair went from a little below the shoulder to neck-length. And I did not cut it! I only cut the ends! So, my conclusion was that it was breaking off badly (and I can see it as I have several hair lengths now). So, I was looking for someone that can cut curly hair but it was not a Deva Curl person. I found Pamela on Yelp and decided to give her a try. I explained all my concerns (I am getting married in 5 months and want my hair to be curly for the day, so I need some length) and she came up with a plan: we cut only the essential to start, so my hair would not be too short for the wedding but would stop breaking off. She used a gloss treatment to make my hair stronger and with less frizz, she told me to sleep on satin pillowcases (even gave me one!) and recommended a deep conditioner to use at home. Between now and the wedding, I will go back to do the treatment twice more and after the wedding I will cut my hair right! I never had someone to listen to my concerns like this and to came up with such a plan! I highly recommend Pamela to any girl with curly hair. I had a great experence getting my hair done! Pamala and her assistant where both very friendly. They took there time on putting diffent treatments in my hair to help restore it back to looking healthy! My hair cut looked better than what I espected. I was hoping to get my hair colored the same day, but Pamala was straight up with me saying to wait until she had (all the correct mixings) verses making something up with what she had on hand. I appriacted her honesty and making me wait instead of trying to do it that day for the sake of getting more money. I would love together review about my hair but I cannot. When I called to schedule my appointment I made it clear that I have an appointment at 1 PM that was 45 minutes away so I need to be out of the salon at noon. I show up to salon 9:50 AM and my appointment was scheduled at 10 I believe that time is very valuable to everybody my time is very precious to me. At 10:13 the owner came to me to apologize that the styles running late. When somebody is running late you would think it would be 10 or 15 minutes. But apparently this is not the case I walked out of the salon at 10:38. The stylist hadn't even show up. I'm very upset because I am new in town and that's the time to go through the yelp reviews because I do not trust everybody with my hair and I didn't want to put a relaxing in myself . The one woman who was sitting in a chair she did a really good job. now I have to look for somewhere else im very upset that my time was wasted time is very valuable. so I will give this review one star if there was zero stars I would give it and it's not because I know how the hair care is down there that I didn't even get a chance to experience that is because experience I had waiting for a hairstyles that didn't show that probably still is in there at this moment!!! read more

The reason I am giving this salon 2 stars is because though the owner and the stylist Lonzella were very warm and pleasant the services my friends had received from Lonzella for their surprise pampering treat were way below satisfactory. And here are the reasons why 1.) I was told that my 2 friends would be seen by 2 junior stylists so that there hair could be completed from 2:30-5:30 pm. However, they were seen by 1 stylist who shared that she was a "stylist in training" (this was not revealed when making appt) and we didn't get out the salon until 8:45 pm. We were there for 6 hours for just a wash, press and trim for one girl and a wash and set for the other - partly due to the stylist being overbooked 2.) After one of my friends was done she was told to quickly get out of the chair to make room for the stylist's other client who by the way had been there almost as long as we had. 3.) The set that was done on my friend was done well but wouldn't recommend getting a press done. My friend's press barely lasted for a couple of hours and once her hair was curled the stylist didn't take time to actually style it. Needless to say I wouldn't recommend this salon. Nice work on the set but the press was done poorly, took way too long to have both styles completed and stylist wasn't experienced. read more

Last year I moved from San Mateo to Berkeley to go to school which meant I needed to find a new place to get my hair done. I asked a close friend from Oakland where she got her hair done and she told me Ringlets. Before Ringlets, I never stayed with a salon more than a few touch ups but I have been going to Ringlets for about a year now and I love it. The salon itself is clean and orderly (and recently remodeled, new floors and front desk etc), the stylists are fun, knowledgeable, and professional, and the appointments are timely. I don't know if anyone else has had a similar experience, but sometimes going into a black hair salon for something like a relaxer touch up can take an entire day- not here, your stylist will be with you and maybe one other customer and you will be in and out in a good amount of time. I only get a relaxer touch up but I know they do weaves, coloring, and cuts. If you're new to the area and are looking for some people to take care of your hair, call Ringlets. Pamela has serious skills!!! My entire life I have allowed my mother to cut my hair. I figured, if I'm going to have a cut I hate I might as well not pay $80 dollars for it. I get so sick of going into expensive salons that claim to know what to do with naturally curly hair an leaving pissed off that I wasted time and money with someone who doesn't have a clue! One day I decided I had enough of my long curly hair and wanted to chop it all off. I knew I couldn't trust my mother at all for the look I was going for so I just said a prayer and called Ringlets (after seeing it on yelp). They were able to get me in immediately, which helped to ensure I wouldn't change my mind. Pamela cut my hair dry, which was the first sign I knew she knew what she was doing. I showed her one pic of a look I liked and trusted her with the rest. She killed it! I loved my cut and believe it was worth every penny.
