My stepmother got terrible treatment from these home hospice care nurses. When she was in the ER I…read moreasked the nurses to do a UTI (urinary tract infection) test since she had mental confusion just before. The ER nurses said she had normal temp and vitals and didn't want to do anything invasive. They said the broad spectrum antibiotic they gave her would take care of any UTI. I found out later that this is not recommended for UTIs since it can make them resistant. A narrow spectrum antibiotic is recommended, and then one after the other has to be tried quickly. UTIs are the second biggest cause of elderly women going to the ER. The hospital recommended this hospice. My stepmother at her home continued to lose appetite and not feel well. I called the 24 hour hospice nurse and she was in the area. However, just like the regular hospice nurse, she said they go by three signs of UTI only: the patient has to have temperature, mental confusion, and different urine than usual. I told her about the mental confusion from a couple weeks before but the nurse said it had to be recent. I said I looked it up and elderly people do not show the same UTI signs, they show loss of appetite, fatigue. The hospice nurse said they only go by these three and said she did not even have any equipment to test UTI. I was told by the other hospice nurse that I could get UTI test strips from a pharmacy to test myself and if positive they would do a further test. I wanted to go get the test strips the next morning. The nurses refused to send her to hospital as you give up your rights to do so yourself. They told me they didn't want to extend her suffering as she was going to die anyway. Which she did the next day, most probably from a UTI infecting her kidneys and causing sepsis, as she did not have any other real causes. Stay away from these people.

If one of your loved ones is sick and needs hospice care, I beg of you, for their sake, do not…read moresubject them to MJHS Hospice care. I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy. My mother was sent home on hospice, and after receiving recommendations from friends, we selected MJHS. It was a terrible decision. MJHS is an infuriatingly bureaucratic organization, utterly incompetent, designed to give the absolute minimum care possible, and to save money at every turn. They do not care about the patients whose lives they exercise control over; they care about their bottom line. With MJHS, getting even the simplest, most critical requests done is unacceptably slow. Need a refill of morphine? That will take 24 hours; hope you didn't run out. Ran out of Atropine on a Friday? Sorry, we can't handle that until Monday. Need a new piece of medical equipment? You'll probably have to call multiple times and be extremely persistent before anyone will lift a finger. Here's what happens when you call MJHS. You will reach a customer service agent, who is not medically trained, who is not able to do anything. The only thing that person can do is to take a message. They will then, supposedly, pass that message on to a nurse, who will supposedly do something about it. In many cases, the nurse can't do anything either, so they will supposedly pass the message onto a doctor, who will pass a response back to the nurse, who will then pass a response back to the customer service agent, who may decide to call you. Of course, that usually doesn't happen, and by the time it does, the message has usually been so garbled that they got it all wrong, and you will have to start the whole process again. I want to be clear that my experience was not limited to a few bad apples. I probably interacted with two dozen MJHS employees and almost all of them were bad. This organization is fundamentally broken. Dealing with MJHS is similar to dealing with a large impersonal company like AT&T or Verizon. Ask yourself: do you want to trust Verizon's customer support line with the care of your loved one?

Monday I was called by Signature Care's New Utrecht Office in Brooklyn for my orientation…read more I missed the call and was advised in a voicemail to call back and dial ext: 330, which I did 1 min.  After the missed call. The lady answered the phone: "How can I help? " I responded: "I am C. J L and I received a missed call" She was confused and then she asked if I would be free on Wednesday for orientation at 2 p.m.. I said okay. Before she hastily hung up I asked what I should wear. She told me to wear whatever I wanted.  I showed up today at 1:30 p.m. not knowing what to expect,  how long it would take and or the procedures that were expected. I sat in my car today 10.09.2019 at 1:30 p.m. and I called the same ext (330) to ask the same unwelcoming clerk how long it would be?  So i knew how much money to put in the money meter and she told me 4hrs?? I asked why it would take four hours and she said well its fou hours either you attend or don't it's up to you. I asked to speak to a Manager and she advised me to come in and asked at the front desk which I did. (Today is a Jewish holiday, she didn't know the manager was off??) I guess the receptionist had lunch because she had food in front of her and didn't want to be bothered,  while speaking to her about not being informed about the orientation proceedings and that i needed to speak to HR (not realizing that the first call at ext 330 was to HR) she started ignoring me and was giving me nothing, but attitude. So I asked to speak to the manager and then she told me there was no manager available, only the HR supervisor, with whom I asked to speak. A white lady came from upstairs,  no introduction and she ask if I needed to speak with her. The clerk at ext 330 with braided hair also came. I guess I was being talked about because a thee supervisors attitude was the same as the others, that belittling feeling.  I explained to her that I wasn't aware of: *the dress code *length of time *proceedings *who was hosting *what was expected of me Her response (the HR Supervisor) was well you should know the answer to all these. How would I know?? How? These are answers that should have been sent in an email or text and or phone conversation the day the clerk at ext 330 called me. The Supervisor said I should have known. Go figure. She was combative enough to let me know I don't have to work with Signature Care if I don't like how things were done. I must tell her right now because you guys had people that NEED the job. I told her I would reschedule because I had a prior engagement at 6 and not enough quarters for 4hrs. On top of it all the receptionist at the front entrance was telling everyone in the cubicles next to her what I was complaining about, people were looking at me and laughing as I should know what an agency protocol is for orientation. I was being pointed out and ridiculed for not guessing what was expected of me from my first agency.  I went and got parking 3 blocks up and I called back ext 330 to speak with the white lady and she refused to speak with me. The call was to say I was doing the orientation today and I rescheduled everything else. Anyways, when I got into the orientation room there were 2 others who were sitting in the lobby while I was complaining they also were unaware of the length of time and was not a prior agency worker. Weirdly a HR 'MANAGER' came to tell me Signature will not work with me because I complained (I recorded it)??? That I started complaining too early and the white lady anticipated that I would be trouble for the company,  but my idea was good so they will consider detailing orientation events next time. My papers were shredded and that was it. The white woman sent a black woman to handle me. Why didn't this African Accent 'HR MANAGER', present herself before??? How do you expect trouble?  That means if anyone complains calmly and precisely about unethical Administrative errors they are discorded? I read online many bad reviews about customer care, being belittled or spoken down 2 at your office in Brooklyn,  I also read about favoritism and getting black balled, but to witness it first hand was very crazy. I was discriminated against, my time was wasted and I turned down other employment opportunities for this job. This just goes to show that some online reviews are factual
