The wife of the owner came out and gave him a sample cookie because he asked her something about a certain flavored cookie. She then went in the back. The daughter continued to wait on him. Another couple walked in the store. The wife came back out and started waiting on them. She didn't ask who was next. Meanwhile, I'm still standing there and no one has said a word to me. I'm just standing there being ignored. I got no sample cookie and no kind of acknowledgement at all. I said, "I guess I'm invisible!" and walked out. They lost out on at least a $50 sale because I was going to bring cookies and pastries to my family who I was visiting. The owners need to get a number machine to keep track of who's next or ask before they wait on the next person, "Who's next?", since they can't see to keep track of that when there are only four customers in the store and two people working. Also, if you're going to give out samples then give them to everyone in the store, not just one customer. It was all so rude!

The checkout counter is often the final impression a guest leaves with, and something as simple as a friendly smile or kind interaction goes a very long way when customers are spending their hard-earned money. I am from out of town and expected much more from what appears to be a boutique-style grocery store with a strong community feel. Stores like Trader Joe's are a great example of how positive, friendly interactions at checkout can completely elevate the customer experience.
