The pool had broken tiles and even missing the cover plates on the ground. The gutters were falling down and there was rust everywhere. In the morning I travelled to the gym. Both treadmills were slipping and completely unusable. The kids swimming pool was dirty. My son jumped in and clouds of dirt spawned all around him. This is the beginning of summer too, it's not like it's winter. I didn't try the spa, wasn't adventurous enough. One of the storm water grills near the pool was rusted through with sharp rusted metal 1m from the pool. Seriously if my son fell in there it would be an immediate trip to the hospital for a tetnis shot.

There's no doubt having kids changes you, your lifestyle and your idea of a good time…read more Before having our daughter, my husband and I scoffed at the notion of spending time in a holiday resort in our own city, however, my sister-in-law decided for her 40th birthday, she would like to spend the weekend at the Adelaide Shores Resort with family and friends in attendance, so arrangements were made, the car loaded, trailer attached and off we set on the 30.6km road trip to our destination. We had booked a Dunes cabin which indeed faced the dunes of West Beach and the toddler took great delight in watching the steady stream of runners and cyclists along the beach path. There were other cabin options available; this was the cheapest 2 bedroom option that included a private bathroom within the cabin itself. Others offered either shared amenities blocks or a private "en suite" (external) bathroom. There was a minimum 2-night booking and we paid $176 per night for Friday and Saturday. The cabin was clean, basic, maybe a little 90s in terms of décor but the linen was nice and it had all we needed for our stay in terms of utensils, crockery, cutlery, cleaning products and a decent sized fridge. As we had decided to be reasonably self-sufficient and not buy meals apart from Saturday dinner, we had brought our own barbecue (gas only, no charcoal or open flame), loads of food, an outdoor setting and the toddler's highchair which we set up in the lawned area outside our cabin. The resort has a huge variety of activities and is well kept with plenty of green lawned areas, shaded picnic gazebos with barbecues, two pools, a Splash Zone, several playgrounds including an air conditioned indoor toddler room, a games room, jumping pillows, pedal cars, bikes and go karts for hire and more. All this and the back gate of the resort (about 10 metres from our door) leads you right onto the beach. Unfortunately the gate closes at 9pm which was a little early. I'd have liked a late night stroll on the sand but we didn't get the time. The resort has a great family friendly vibe and other guests were pleasant and friendly, there was no noise or antisocial behaviour that we observed. I enjoyed being away from home, the resort facilities and the beach but now I feel like I need a real holiday!

I have stayed there as a single traveler but I can see that it is probably very nice for families with the on property activities. It is also a short walk to the beach which is nice. Generally cars can be driven very close to the cabins so it is convenient for luggage. The kitchens are well stocked with equipment. On my first stay I needed something not in the cabin and when I asked at the front desk they were quite helpful and found the item that I was able to use on my stay. I suppose the reason it did not get a higher rating is it is possible to get apartment style accommodations at a similar price a couple blocks away on along the beach which provides a nicer view.

Couldn't even have a nice hot shower because it would run boiling hot for 60 seconds then tun cold for 60 seconds.. Had to keep turning the taps on and off and wait for hot water again, very annoying!!! Park has no BBQ's either! I don't know what the park owners are thinking but obviously they do not care! Would not stay here again and would not recommend.

We upgraded to one of the "Executive" Chalets for another $100.00 - the Chalet was very 80's, had white stains on the carpet in the bedroom (I refused to walk around barefoot), the lounge was ripped and the place stunk of cigarette smoke. Steer clear, there are other places to stay in Hahndorf.

Awesome Hotel + Experiences…read more Excellent food, lodging, tours, experiences, staff in an amazing hilltop location overlooking the water. Located at the end of the island about 1 hour from the airport. Adelaide to Kangaroo island flight is only about 30 minutes. The airport is tiny - no security check on departure. The rooms are modern, perched on the edge of the hill with panoramic views of the ocean beach and ocean below from your room or deck. Modern baths and furnishings. Note: Some rooms have very open plan showers that have no doors to the living area. Kangaroos are all over the property; and wallabies at dusk. The wildlife tour is fantastic - Koalas, Snakes, Birds, Seals, Sea lions etc. etc. You may get very lucky and find a platypus. Lots of ocean views and geological features as well... something for everyone. The lighthouse tour on the property is worthwhile with stunning views and lots of history. Sheep shearing tour on nearby farm as well along with honey tasting to keep you busy. Lots of stars at night without the city pollution to obscure them.

This was such a lucky find to take care of all our needs. They also provide transportation from the airport or Penneshaw ferry, which we used. They are located at the end of the east peninsula and as we turned into their property, we finally saw wild Kangaroos!!! There were so many! I think they like this area and feel comfortable to be in this beautiful space with tourists. This resort has cabin style units with a central reception/ dining center where breakfast and dinners are provided. The units have recently been upgraded and are simple and luxurious and clean, with all the amenities you will need. The breakfast was simple but very tasty with eggs, bacon, several types of breads, fruit, yogurt and granola or muesli. The dinners were just delicious and novel. We saw so many animals on our tour in their natural environment: kangaroos, koalas, echidnas, sea lions, fur seals, Australian turkeys, wallabies, and goanna lizards. The tour to Flinders Chase National Park was a long drive but so worth it. The Remarkable Rocks and Admiral's Rock were just beautiful. This was such a great stay, beautiful location, friendly staff and tour guides, and so many animals!! I highly recommend this resort.
