Cape Jervis Tavern & Motel - Beer Garden

Well, this is pretty typical of what you tend to get with a small town pub, though I probably…read morewould've expected something more, considering this is the place where you pretty much catch the ferry across the Kangaroo Island. However, this tavern, well, it really isn't all that great, and the beer selection certainly wasn't all that fantastic either. However, it is basically what one would get to get with a place like this.

The only reason to visit is if you're a screenwriter looking for character sketches from a…read moresmall-town pub. The place apparently has a monopoly on food in the town. It was not very crowded. Half the tables were empty of people, but still had 2/3 empty plates on them. Patrons were in three camps - those playing video slots or watching the dog-track races on the big screen TV, those trying to stretch out pints of beer to escape the heat as long as possible, and tourists waiting for the ferry to Kangaroo Island. The wait staff immediately recognized us as non-locals, and seemed to do their best to ignore us, apparently hoping we'd just leave. Starving kid, though, wanted a hamburger - so ordered one to go so we could get back to the ferry in time. It took 40 minutes. If he had gotten it to eat there, it would have arrived with a big steak-knife sticking out of the top, we noticed. The burger was very greasy and overcooked. Main takeaway: if you need food between more populated places on the peninsula and Kangaroo Island, best to plan ahead and buy something in Victor Harbor or Aldinga Beach.

Even at night when I was sitting on the coach twirling a glass of wine, I could look up and see the stars! This place as amazing, If you want a short getaway but not have to drive very far to be isolated, this is the place to go! Not to mention that it's completely Eco friendly! Power is solar for water and electricity (I believe?) The accomodation is hidden away in Deep Creek National park and is set in a dense natural forest! Believe it or not, on my last day there I actually had to light a fire it was so cold...in December...weird! Fire place is excellent too, kept the whole place warm! The place is kept immaculately clean (including the windows) with a fully functionally kitchen, coffee, continental breakfast, milk, salt, pepper, spreads, butter, cooking utensils, microwave, baking tray everything you could prossible want! The shower head in the bathroom probably could do with a replacement. The spray of water seemed really spread out and just went everywhere. The only thing that was missing was a bath, for me personally. However since this is a eco friendly house I understand that wouldn't be the most "eco friendly" thing to have. I would definitely go back to relax and enjoy the outdoors and not to mention say hello to this cute little rodent that visited me every night I was there!

We spent a week in one of the ridgetop retreats over Christmas. Deep Creek Conservation Park is one of the last and best places on the Fleurieu Peninsula to experience the beautiful forests and woodlands of South Australia - it really is a state treasure. The retreats give you s chance to stay in this beautiful place in comfort and a minimal ecological footprint, thanks to the smart design choices. Highly recommended.
