We hoped an attorney would help explain the situation, reduce the fines, or guide him better through the process. Instead, it felt like the lawyer did nothing except collect money. If my son had handled it himself, he would've paid around $348 total ($204 for deferred disposition + $144 court fee for defensive driving). Instead, after hiring this lawyer, he ended up paying $483 in fines plus $104 in legal fees, for a total of $587 -- much more than he would have paid on his own! To make things worse, when my son wanted to ask about the "disregard official traffic device" violation, he was told that the lawyer would charge him per minute just to answer questions. Completely unacceptable. This experience was frustrating, unhelpful, and expensive. I honestly wish we had never hired this attorney. If I could give zero stars, I would. I was initially confused, and when I contacted my insurance, they advised me to check with LexisNexis for legal records. Upon doing so, I confirmed that it was the same unresolved ticket. As a result, my insurance premiums have increased by $120 per month, a rate that will remain for the next 5 to 7 years. This amounts to an additional $1440 annually and a total of $7200 over five years. Shawn Storey failed to perform the required legal work, and in a struggling economy, I am burdened with an extra $120 each month. I advise others to steer clear of attorneys who make false promises regarding dismissals or legal outcomes. I plan to contact him again to discuss this matter and seek a resolution.
