He's very nice, accommodating, and knows his stuff both smallmouth bass fishing in general and about the Maury River. I highly recommend him as a guide. If you like gravel biking, the Greenbrier River Trail is a short bike ride from the house and if you don't have your own, there's a rental/shuttle service in town at the one and only traffic light. We have ridden in October and saw a couple of bears on the ride. We also rode in the spring and didn't see any but Ann said she saw one while walking the trail with their baby. No issues with them though. I def want to visit again but we've had a couple of health issue that put our Wanders (and waders) on hold.

The drive over to the start of our day trip was pleasant in an air conditioned van and the guide driving us pointed out baby deer and an eagle's nest which was awesome. The canoeing day itself was beautiful and the trip was just the right length for us. There were four adults in our group-- I think with kids you would want to ask for a closer drop off point because it was a LOT of paddling. The canoes were nice and they helped us carry them down to the launch point and gave us a run down of the rapids we would pass which was helpful to avoid overly shallow or rocky areas. We were the only ones canoeing that day which was so nice! I would love to do this again in the fall when the leaves are changing!

There is ample shade so during the hot summer months, you're sheltered from the sun. We camped right on the water at Campsite 6 hearing the river as we slept. We could have camped up a bit as the site is large. We could swim from the site. Floating down the James River rafting was super beautiful and relaxing. Any age can do this really. Water was low but still fun.

The Fire Trail was a nice hike over the mountain without being too strenuous and had views of the valley at different points along the way. I could see it being muddy though if it rained recently so be careful. They weren't charging admission when we were there on a weekday afternoon and there was plenty of parking. It looks like they have fishing as well and maybe swimming when the weather is warmer. This place isn't far at all from Crozet so we went for a hike then had dinner in town.

It doesn't feel like a commercial RV park--the camping sites aren't stacked on top of each other but rather reasonable spaced. And if you have kids, or adults that are young at heart, there is a great swimming pool and "swimming pond". the General Store is amazing and well stocked. And the milkshakes and biscuits and gravy knock your socks off. Over the top facility and very friendly staff. Great stay, if you're in the Roanoke area and looking for a great place to tent or RV camp don't miss this place!!

There are not enough stars to share how we feel about our experience with Justin and Middle River…read moreOutfitters. From start to finish - it was top notch, well-organized and well-communicated. Two fishermen: one a complete novice and, the other an early enthusiast. Justine was part teacher, part coach and part trout whisperer - and 100% focused on our experience. He has the gift of knowing his craft and reading the room. He was by our side when we needed him - yet gave us all the space we needed to try out what he taught us....which was considerable, yet never felt overwhelming. His instructive pacing is impressive. Each point was easy to understand and built up. By the end of the day we felt like we had learned so much. Could not have asked for a better time on the water. It was everything you could ever want. The result? Justin deepened the resolve for one of us and created a new fly fishing fan in the other. Thank you!!

It showed that we would have a landline service at our cabin however, it did not work I reported it to the front desk and they told me that it was unknown problem throughout the resort that they were unable to get fixed. we stayed in the ERICA cabin and it was super clean very comfortable although the couch needed a great deal of updating the cabin was very cool with the AC running. The bed was super comfortable when it was very hot. The cabin was in a very secluded shaded area along the river. We did get amazing service at the resort restaurant by Autumn. She was our waitress every time we dine there and she provided amazing service and deserves a promotion. She is an exceptional waitress and make sure her customers are happy and meets the needs of their dining experience. The front desk seem to be unsure about any of our concerns regarding the phone not working the TV literally being 14 inches to corner and diameter in the bedroom. If you are like my husband and I we have to have the TV on to fall asleep at night and this caused a great deal of issues. The TV was so tiny. I am a germaphobic. to the point that I do not shower, barefoot or sleep on the sheets or blanket provided by the resort, hotel, motel and breakfast, etc. at this resort I felt completely comfortable walking around barefoot taking a shower barefoot and I even slept in the sheets that we're already on the bed even though we brought our own to put on the bed just in case the only changes we made is we took the beautiful quilt off the bed and use our blanket that we brought from home and that's only because from experience the quilts don't always get laundered every time the place is cleaned. Not to say that this does not happen at this resort but in past experiences, this has happened at other resorts hotels/motels so we just play on the safe side if you are a germaphobe you will feel quite at home there is no dishwasher in the ERICA cabin and there is no Wi-Fi at the ERICA cabin. I did utilize the washer and dryer to wash a blanket and it worked perfectly. They provided laundry detergent, fabric softener, and they had little bottles of shampoo and conditioner for use when showering One thing I do want to mention is that if you rent the ERICA cabin, you do have to carry all your belongings across a fairly long bridge to get to your cabin. The cabin is not accessible to motor vehicles. as far as the restaurant is concerned, we did not have a single bad meal. Everything was excellent but it was $20-$30 a plate depending on what you ordered and if you ordered a soda, it was almost 3 dollars Per person they did have a nice gift shop where you could buy shirts and different souvenirs and of course, if you are a fly fisherman, this is a fly fisherman's Paradise. We did not go there to fish. It was nice and relaxing to just stand there and watch the trout swim in the water overall I do recommend this place and I would go back again. It was a wonderful getaway for the weekend just to forget about everything that is going on in your present life and stress that you deal with daily. I completely forgot about all that while we were there what a wonderful experience!!
