We found Ricos on our drive back from Des Moines to the twin cities of resturaunts not far off of 35 and the moment I saw the reviews I knew this is where we needed to go! Having grown up on the west coast, good authentic Mexican is something I miss now living here and Rico's could put the best of the places back home to the test! We had the tacos and tamales and both were mouth watering! The staff was super kind and welcoming, quick turn arounds and very fresh!

Great food, great service and close to I35. Try this place out for tacos and tamales. Maybe next time I'll try something else.

Great food and great service. Nice place just off I35 a bit. Worth the extra couple of minutes to get there.

I had heard rumors from many people that this was a must-visit place in Ames. With it being my graduation from ISU, my family decided to try a new place before I leave. We each got something different: chicken quesadillas, chicken tacos, steak nachos, and burrito. They were all very good, warm, and made as requested. The wait was not too long even with several groups waiting. We had excellent service and they did their best to encourage social distancing and cleanliness. Overall, a great little spot that I will have to visit as many times as I can before I leave town!

I am a native Texan and this tastes just like back home! Looks right, prices are right, and good ole Mexican food made by a Mexican family. They've got multiple park benches and an awning/tent thing so there's shade and space for a good 20 or so customers to sit at a time. They aren't that fluent in English, just the very basics, so I wouldn't recommend throwing a million substitutions or questions. It's a taco truck and a taste of Mexico in Iowa. The only taste of Mexico in Iowa you'll get without driving to Des Moines. Sorry Mr. Burrito, you are about to go out of business. Rico's food is fresh and made to order. This is a taco truck so cash only! Order, pay upfront, get a ticket, wait 5 minutes, and then get your yummy food!

I never seem to drive on Duff, south of Lowes, but a friend clued me in to Rico's when we were talking about La Bamba. Rico's is another great place for tacos. I had three with lengua and they were nearly perfect. I loved both the red and the green salsas, but particularly the red. The tortillas are lightly fried, but not greasy. The tongue was moist and flavorful and aside from needing a sprinkle of salt, it was perfect. I need to return for cabeza. I don't know how to choose between La Bamba and Rico's. If these places are open when you are hungry, stay out of the gringo Mex places like La Fuente.

Awesome Tacos, I live in Los Angeles and these are comparable if not better than the tacos I get in Cali.

Simple, authentic Mexican street food with the great meat choices. Rico's understands good value. This place is great.

Went here for lunch with the family, this place has a lovely charm - and was at one point a train…read moredepot. Our server was attentive, and it was quiet enough to have a pleasant conversation over lunch. Three of our table had the daily special - a ribeye sandwich with caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, their version of sweet and saucy steak sauce. Everyone enjoyed it - and I stole a few fries which were golden crisp and perfectly seasoned. I was assured their fries are consistently delicious. I had pork shoulder with two sides, i went with hallelujah potatoes (cheesy potato casserole) and cornbread pudding. The pork was melt in your mouth tender, perfect with the sweet and sassy bbq sauce. Each plate comes with some pickle slices and pickled onions, the onions were nice - i gave my pickles away as i am not a savory pickle girl. The hallelujah potatoes were cheesy, creamy and crunchy (topping) and the cornbread pudding tasty. The lemonade was recommended to me and it was well done - tart and sweet. Overall if I had more time in town I would definitely come back.

Just some suggestions for future guests. Please ask first if guests want to be seated on patio. We asked to be moved inside and a they moved us to the loudest part, next to bathrooms and opening to patio, so still cool. Waitress had no time for us, maybe because we were asked to be moved. Idk. Food was good. If the name of your restaurant is "cornbred" you would think your meat dish would come with a piece of cornbread. Instead you have to order it as an appetizer which are muffins. How about one little muffin person placed on the table. I would also maybe include a side with your meal (maybe less meat) to accommodate for the side. Just suggestions. It is a cute place though.
