Go-to for a quick bite after shopping in the mall. Reached the place around 7.30, didn't realize it was closing time but the server was sweet and accomodated me and my friend. Got the veggie quesadilla plate that came with rice and beans. Food was fresh and filling. Liked their avocado salsa too. Would definitely visit this place again. read more

This is a hot-spot on Iowa State's campus. Although it is cold outside, it was well worth the wait to get a burrito from their food truck. Their burritos are always packed full of food and made fresh. It does seem to be tossed in with some spices that could be a little too much for the person that can't do spicy. However, this has always been one of my favorite spots to grab a quick bite to eat on campus! The staff is always very friendly, and gets the food out to you quickly! Came in for a quick bite to eat. I was blown away by the quick delicious fresh authentic Mexican food that I was given! I ordered three beef street tacos and a side of rice and I tried three different salsas, I moved here about 13 years ago from Southern California this is the Mexican food I'm used to this is a taste of home so glad I found this place! What can I say about Carlos ..Wow the quesadilla combination I ordered was huge and tasty! The steak quesadilla I ordered the meat was very juicy and seasoned well. The extra sides of rice and beans were fine very typical of what you will get in a Mexican restaurant. But yes I am impressed with the quesadilla. Definite surprising taste of Mexico in Ames, Iowa of all places! As a cook and someone who's worked in food service I gotta tell you, some dishes they seriously skimped on the quality, others they put a lot of work and money in. We ordered nearly half the menu. We got every kind of taco and they were all equally delicious. I had brisket nachos and my wife got a brisket quesadilla. Definitely yummy and worth every penny. However, unless you're an Iowan that likes eating plain unseasoned food, steer clear of the chips and guacamole, rice, and beans. They were made fresh, but plain and unseasoned. They chose to go cheap and basic with those, and put all of their money, energy, and flavor into the meats. I'm not mad at them, I just know to skip those few smaller items and stick to the big tickets. I mean, they even seasoned the chicken well and most places in Iowa the chicken has no flavor even if they gave a half ass attempt and tried. I'll definitely be back. The store was also really clean, and the in house salsas were on point. The medium salsa and avocado salsa were sooo good. read more

Carlos quesadillas was a flavorful surprise. I'll be the first to say that once you get further away from a bigger metropolis like Des Moines, finding good AUTHENTIC Mexican food becomes harder. I honestly thought this was going to be another Taco John's but as I walked by the smell emitting from the locale I felt it had potential to sway me. I ordered 3 tacos: 1 fajita steak, 1 carnitas (shredded pork), 1 chicken tinga. Each taco came with two small corn tortillas (like you'd get in a taco truck in Mexico) and pico de Gallo =tomato chunks, cilantro and chopped onion... which I don't even understand why it's called "salsa" by many as it means 'sauce'. Anyway, the meat was flavorful and they weren't shy with portion size. There 4 types of salsas available near the fountain drinks: pico de Gallo, spicy, medium spicy and avocado salsa. We chose the avocado salsa and spicy. Both were an interesting take on traditional salsas but not something you'd find in an authentic Mexican restaurant. Regardless, the flavorful pow pleased my palate. We ordered a side of rice but I'm not a big fan of cumin in rice but if you like Tex Mex cuisine, then you might like it. Since we came at their slowest time, I chatted up their only employee. He said the owner has a popular taco food truck near ISU campus. So that's another location you can visit if I've intrigued you enough ;) read more

Second time coming here and I was left satisfied both times, this place is simple yet delicious and I definitely enjoy this place and recommend to anyone in Ames to stop there and get some food. I love the energy you get from the workers and I love that when you get your food you know it's coming out hot and fresh which is always my favorite thing and there food always is so good it just warms my heart every time I go back. read more

These were some amazing tacos! I've had awesome tacos in Texas and ever since haven't been able to find any as good as the ones in the south. These were delicious. Food is big, first time got the bean and cheese burrito. Wasn't sure how big it would be for the $6 so I also got some chips and salsa. The burrito was good. The chips were nothing worth talking about. Felt like they came from a bag at Walmart. Now their sauces. This is where I give it the higher rating. Omg their sauces are amazing! The spicy one had my nose running! The medium was good too. Not a huge fan of avocados but that one was good. I liked dipping the chips in that. I also liked mixing the hot and medium sauces and putting that on my burritos. Second time I got a cheese quesadilla and rice. it was yummy. Overflowing with cheese! The rice was yummy. I added some of the rice right into my quesadilla. Definitely worth it mainly cause there isn't a whole lot at the mall anyways ha ha. First experience eating here today and it was fantastic. Very traditional Mexican food for a good price. The Chorizo taco with the corn tortillas was incredibly spicy and I loved it. Their food truck is great. They have a location in North Grand Mall but you can find them at lots of events with their truck, and on campus next to Kildee Hall throughout the week. read more

My favorite food truck on campus! I stop by here for lunch whenever I can. I love everything on the menu. It's one of the fastest places to get food from too. I've ordered from other food trucks and had to wait awhile, but here you just wait a few minutes, no matter if there's a line or not. This food is fresh and delicious! My favorite is the steak quesadilla. The steak is tender and juicy and Carlos's homemade pico de gallo is to die for! His tacos are also great, served in a soft, fresh, warm tortilla. I highly recommend stopping by his food truck for lunch! I also had Carlos cater an 80-person event for a symposium our research group was hosting at Iowa State. He was fantastic! Everything was done on time and the food was hot, fresh, and very tasty.
