I stopped here on my way through Ames Iowa. It's just a small store front and restaurant. Service was friendly and the food was good. I would recommend this place for an easy meal.

If you're looking for the best, authentic Mexican food in Ames than look no further than Rinconcito. The restaurant and store are tucked away in the Northern Lights shopping center. Us old-timers know it as the location where Valentino's once was. The Valentino's green booths still remain. When you walk into the restaurant, you proceed to the menu board to order your food. The menu board is bright and easy to read. If you're confused by the options, I'd suggest asking questions as this isn't the typical "Mexican" fare like other Ames establishments serve. This is the real stuff. The food itself is absolutely delicious and made to order. On our latest visit, I ordered the Birria Taco's. Talk about packing a punch of flavor. There are three tacos (with brisket), rice, grilled veggies and enough birria dipping sauce to feed a small village. My wife ordered the Burrazo with steak and nodded her approval multiple times as she enjoyed her food. Neither of us were able to eat the entire meal, as the portion sizes are huge. A third person in our party ordered steak quesadillas with no onions. When the dish was served, there was worry that the quesadilla was LOADED with onions, but upon further inspection the staff made the speciality order to perfection. I should also comment on the amazing, fresh salsa bar. There are a number of different salsas with varying degrees of heat to suit every palate. We will certainly be back for the food, but I remain intrigued by the other offerings. The store side continues to expand with new, unique items. Also, Rinconcito now sells beer. I was able to confirm with store employees that they also make homemade michelada mix. Perfect for a hot summer day! In summary, Rinconcito is the top Mexican restaurant in Ames if you're looking for no frills, but authentic Mexican flavors.

I was expecting a sit down restaurant with table service, but it's very much an extension of the food truck Tacos El Primo. The food was pretty great and there's a little market next to the restaurant. It's a nice place for legitimate Mexican culture and food in Ames, Iowa of all places.

Great food. We tried sopes, torta, and a taco. The items did not disappoint. I am excited to try other food items during future visits.

Food is great and authentic fire birria fire burritos fire tacos! Service is polite and patient and the ambiance is pleasant and music is lively

The overall vibe of the place is calming, which helps me in these hectic times. Private parking lot, great layout, helpful staff who know their store. Excellent produce. Terrific deli and meat market. Numerous options that you cannot obtain in most store. Located just West of downtown Ames. I try to stop here every time that I am in Ames, as I find items that I cannot get elsewhere, and they add to my quality of life. Some interesting food options always intrigue me too!

I also love their juice bar and always get a juice to go. It is their hot bar that I love the most but especially their soups! It is hard to find any vegetarian soups but they always have at least one! So far every soup I have tried, I have enjoyed a lot! A few times after getting a small bowl for there, I get a big bowl to go. I also enjoy their deli too. I love how they even have vegan options there too! I don't do much grocery shopping there but usually go for the food lol. It really is a little hidden gem! Ended up becoming a member a few years ago because of how much I love their hot bar! Other part I love, they have some of the most amazing bread made in shop, not always lucky enough to get some but when I do, it has to be best bread around!

It all tasted so fresh, and the baklava was absolutely to die for! My husband was unsure as to which one he should get, so the gentleman working recommended the selection of baklava that we got. I am so glad that he did because all of it was phenomenal. Service: The service was great. I definitely feel as if they went above what would be considered basic service and were all incredibly friendly and pleasant to interact with. They were quick and efficient and definitely knew what they were talking about. Ambiance: Being a smaller international-type grocery store, it was really pleasant and comfortable to be in. The selection can be overwhelming, but not in a bad way. There is just so much to choose from, and I feel like every time you go in, you will find something new that you didn't see before. The selection of items they have is incredible. It's not overly noisy either, and it smells amazing as soon as you walk in.

Being told that BOTH forms of government-issued identification were somehow not acceptable was beyond unreasonable and honestly humiliating.
