It all tasted so fresh, and the baklava was absolutely to die for! My husband was unsure as to which one he should get, so the gentleman working recommended the selection of baklava that we got. I am so glad that he did because all of it was phenomenal. Service: The service was great. I definitely feel as if they went above what would be considered basic service and were all incredibly friendly and pleasant to interact with. They were quick and efficient and definitely knew what they were talking about. Ambiance: Being a smaller international-type grocery store, it was really pleasant and comfortable to be in. Well, in the Midwest, I have found, there is one on every corner. For that reason you have about another 10 locations (literally) within a 20 mile driving distance to compare it to. The fact that a small city like Ames (yes people, Ames is pretty small lol) can support two of these beasts is amazing. Coming originally from CA which, to my knowledge, have no Super WalMarts, this place was a godsend. Everything available in one place. Produce is usually pretty decent, and shelves are pretty well stocked. Do you get those special Wal Mart employees? You bet, but you get those at every Wal Mart. Cheap labor means cheaper prices, and the latter is why people come here. Having recently moved to MA, while there are super WalMarts, they don't hold a candle to this Ames (or really any other central IA) location. Dirty, poorly stocked, almost no employees around to help you. Honestly, you Ames folk don't know how stinking good you have it, and I mean that. The simple fact that you have a 24-hour store is awesome! Thank your lucky stars. You have one of the better Wal-Marts in the nation, even though you may not think it is one of the better locations in your area.

Several times she has also given me free items to try and see if I like them. I'll agree that some of the freezer items could be labeled a little better with prices and/or dates, but I haven't really purchased any of those items. I typically come in for different noodles, sauces, and spices. I have found all the prices to be very reasonable, and way cheaper than trying to buy all these specialty items from Amazon or other online vendors. The store itself is a little small and cramped, but that's part of the charm. This is a great store with friendly staff and an awesome selection considering the small size.

To avoid any issues, I then provided my U.S. passport,literally one of the most official forms of identification possible, and was AGAIN told they couldn't verify it. At that point, it stopped feeling like a misunderstanding and started feeling extremely targeted and discriminatory. Being told that BOTH forms of government-issued identification were somehow not acceptable was beyond unreasonable and honestly humiliating. The way this situation was handled lacked professionalism, respect, and basic human decency. I left feeling singled out and uncomfortable, and I genuinely believe the treatment I received could be perceived as racial profiling. Policies are one thing, but treating customers with dignity should be the bare minimum. I hope management seriously addresses this so nobody else has to experience what I did.
