Nice atmosphere, the library feel is pretty cool. Drinks are a bit steep but not terribly priced. But that doesn't make up for the food. Ordered a burger, expecting a fresh patty from a place like this. What I got back was more along the lines of a Carls Jr. pre-frozen patty. Nice tasty beer selection. There was a local jazz band playing in the basement. Not everyone likes jazz, but these guys were great. They performed some great pieces of pure jazz music. I will never go back service was the absolute worst. I'm disappointed in the owner and the waitress's serving their customers. Didn't actually get served because of some BS rule. Okay, I admit it - I was major square in college. (The fact that I still am is besides the point!) That being said, after I turned 21, this was the only real bar that I ever really frequented, as the scene was much more my pace than any other I encountered. I am not a party person, and I'd rather have a chilled out, intimate conversation than dance with strangers...I know, crazy, right? The atmosphere was almost cinematic, in that it felt like you really were not in Pullman anymore...hard to describe, but worth with me here...wall to wall bookshelves, heavy wooden furniture...billiards...and popcorn. You will be greatly disappointed if you visit this bar without having a pitcher of beer cider. Try not to drink it all by yourself because once you have a taste you will be tempted. This bar is a great laid back place and a great back from the typical college bars on Greek Row. It does have an old library feel (which I like) and they do feature live music here on the weekends. It's rare to find a bar like Rico's, especially in a town like Pullman. Amidst the sports bars and clubs lies Rico's. If you're looking for a place to just go hangout and get away from the bar scene, look no further. The drinks: Rico's always has a large and ever changing selection of beer. You can always find something new, something old and something you'll love. Or if you are not into beer, they have wine and good selection of cocktails to choose from. The food: If it is late in the evening they still have fried foods such as chicken strips, fries, onion rings and others. If you get there before the late night they have multiple sandwiches to choose from. Even if it is lunch time, Rico's is a good place to grab some delicious food and put back and tasty drink. Too cheap for food? They always have a basket of popcorn for 75 cents. The atmosphere: This is definitely a place where you can meet up with some friends and just have a relaxing evening and share some good conversation. The main area is very accommodating to groups and further back is a downstairs area where live music plays and a lot more tables. The live music consists usually of local jazz and hosts an open mic night. If you're in the mood for some pool there are three tables upstairs. The crowd is a mix of college students, professors and locals. There is always something happening at Rico's. The service is always great, I've never had a problem with any of the bartenders. They are all nice people. One interesting aspect of Rico's is that they have a huge bookcase filled with various books that you can read as you please. I remember one night a friend of mine took down one of the poetry collections and proceeded to read poetry out loud for a better part of the evening. Only at Rico's could you do something like that. I'll always have fond memories of this place whether it be watching some good music, shooting pool and just hanging out with my friends and drinking beer that is something other than cheap domestics. I love this place. It's a real honest-to-goodness sort of pub (not a bar). Lots of quality beer on tap, good mixed drinks, an assortment of hot sandwiches and fried food on the menu. I've never been late on a weekend, so I can't speak to the quality of the live music or the dance floor, but I really don't think of Rico's as a dancing sort of place. It's where I go with friends on a Sunday afternoon to hang out and drink Guinness. It's where I hunkered down in a booth to rough out my thesis with pen and paper (laptop wouldn't have worked, since there aren't many outlets). I always get the French Dip. We ate at Rico's last night for the second time and once again the food and service were excellent. We're from out of town and first ate there last September, and had burgers that were thick and juicy. We ate there again last night and split a Reuben and a side salad. The Reuben was one of the best Reubens we've ever had, and the salad was fresh and crisp. Service was great! read more

I've been to this place several times before. It is the perfect place to have a relaxing chat with friends, listen to some live music, and shoot some pool. The drinks are amazing here. The bartenders are also very friendly and will talk to you when you're feeling particularly talkative when you're tipsy. Kudos for them in humoring my weird small talk! In terms of the food, there are few vegetarian options which can be a little bit lackluster in my book. However, this place has always been the place for me to go to for some appetizers. I highly recommend the onion rings and mozzarella sticks. :) read more

I really want to love this place, I really do. I've given it a few chances now, and every time I go, I feel even more disappointed than the time before. I love the atmosphere of Rico's. They have a split upper and lower level with live music on some nights downstairs and pool tables upstairs. I think the reason I keep going back is partially because I think it's a super neat place to hang out and grab a drink. However, the reason I am giving it 2 stars is because the service here is horrible. All the employees walk around like they don't know what is going on, and seem outright confused about what they are doing. Our waitress for our party of two was very scrambled. When our food arrived, it wasn't what I had ordered, and one of the drinks I ordered never came out to the table (but we were still charged for it anyway). We had ordered two drinks later in the night and we waited nearly 25 minutes for the second one before the waitress came out and said, "oh, did you still want that drink?" As if she hadn't even put in our order and had forgotten completely. When we went to pay, it took almost 5 minutes to close our tab, which honestly was a little ridiculous to me. This place has the potential, cause the food and drinks are decent, but the service here is very below average. read more

Really great service! Have been in twice, once when it was extremely slow and another time when it was busier. Both times the bartenders and waitresses were helpful and moved very quickly. Food is delicious and drinks are well made/poured as well. Received drinks in under 5 minutes, food in under 15. Very nice ambient lighting and mood, definitely a classier bar than what you would expect to see in Pullman. Perfect for a burger and a beer or a glass of wine and homework! read more

What type of bar makes you wait in a single file line to close out your tab? I don't know if this is some Washington thing or what but its a complete disservice to the customers and the business to have a huge line to order your drinks. Management needs to take a serious look at how they deal with serving a crowded bar because in the end a busy bar is a good problem to have. The only reason why I'm even giving this place more than one star is because of the popcorn and pool tables. I doubt I'll ever be in Pullman again, but if I am, I can assure you that I will not be seen in that line. read more

Where has this place been all my life? Excellent public house. You can actually have a conversation over a good pint in cozy chairs. OK so as a 23 year old college student I find myself at bars once in a while. The most common bar that I visit is Rico's. It is a great place to escape from the Greeks and listen to good jazz music or to relax and actually TALK with friends! Wow talking in a bar? Not screaming? Yeah that is what it is like to go here. If you like a loud bar with annoying people and overpriced drinks Rico's is not the place for you. Rico's really shines when compared to other bars in Pullman. The atmosphere is the best of any bar in town. I like that the bar is usually not packed. I also like that there is usually an older crowd in this bar. I don't know about you but I don't want to be packed into a bar with a bunch of "Players" and "Hoes". I have never seen someone with a hat with a flat bill turned slightly and the sticker still on in this bar . Or a group of sorority girls I've wanted to kill. The Live music is one of the best features of the bar. Students from the school of music here at WSU play at Rico's. Also some of the professors play was well. If you like Jazz at all you should go just for that. The one problem about Rico's Is how expensive it is. I guess this is what keeps alot of the younger kids out. So its a trade off. read more

This is my favorite bar in Pullman because it actually feels like an English pub (hence the name!). I love that they have books on the shelves and serve typical pub food as well. I always got the fish 'n' chips if I showed up before midnight. It is a little pricey, compared to some of the frat boy bars up on the hill, but that's part of the reason I like it -- it's not a frat boy bar. Unless they're playing jazz really loudly (which happens), it's a great place to actually talk to your friends, rather than screaming in their ears that you're going outside or heading to another bar. You could theoretically meet here to discuss class projects as well on a weeknight -- at least that's what I've heard...... read more

Rico's is situated in the liveliest section of downtown Pullman. It is sandwiched by the espresso cafes "Cafe Moro" and "Daily Grind". The location is good, needless to say. Out in front is a quaint patio that, during the summer months, is ornamented with flowers. The interior of Rico's is one of its most notable traits. Adorned with dark wood, cozy lighting, and books, the aesthetics appeal to just about everyone. On a cold winter night, entering Rico's can feel a bit like a good hug. Food, liquor, wine, and beer are served here. The price of a pint of beer is spendy for the average college student, but when the experience is figured into the price, it seems to be worth it. The food that I have tried has been mostly decent. I stick with the Reuben, which has good flavor and is made with high-quality ingredients. Go here to stay awhile and relax with a drink. read more

Rico's is definitely my favorite bar in Pullman. Boasting a history almost as long as WSU's, it retains a certain old-fashioned charm. Dark wood details, books stacked to the ceiling and comfy chairs tucked into the corner help give it a warm and welcoming atmosphere! The live jazz is great; the bands play on Fridays and Saturdays, starting at around 9:30. Some of the players are music professors or grad students, and all appear to thoroughly enjoy playing music and entertaining the audience. Drink prices can be a bit stiff for a college student (think $5 for a pint) but are worth it. They have excellent beers on tap and one awesome hard cider, and also offer a range of mixed drinks including several warm ones made with coffee. This is definitely an awesome chill-out sort of spot to hang with friends and talk or just enjoy the music! Get there early, though...Rico's is popular, and you'll want a seat. :) read more

It really is the Worst service you could find in a bar. Waited at a table for 10 minutes, didn't get served. Moved to the bar, waited another 5 minutes, nothing. Place was near empty and staff didn't even acknowledge people waiting to be served. read more

I don't ever write reviews but I had awful service here. I went with a friend, ordered right away. It took an hour for someone to come tell us that it would take longer. They then bring our food and give it to the table behind us who "happened" to order the same as us and said it would be 20 more min for their mistake giving the wrong people our food. They bring out our food and mine isn't even the right thing... No apologies and no offer to reduce the price or anything. I never don't tip but that was bad there was no one besides us and the table behind us in the entire place. read more

Favorite place to get a drink in pullman. The atmosphere is great and right up my alley. Just so cool and laid back. The music on the weekends is nice but i love it even more during the week when it's quieter. Pool tables on the upper floor are nice and well maintained. Staff is always friendly. I didn't notice if the drinks were overpriced but i wasn't really paying attention, although i can say that they made me the best Manhattan i've had on the palouse.
