The only place I'll let touch my cars for oil changes to tire replacement. Dealer quote - $1500, Rick quote, $550. That's a common theme from my experience with them. Cars are like people, they don't always tell you what is wrong making it easy, but I've never once felt that Rick oversold me and you can tell he wants to get your car fixed properly. Gas is more expensive here than closer to the freeway. Also, I avoid this place like the plague when I see the tent and table set up for the occasional vendors they allow. Sometimes it's windshield repair but more often it's the waterless carwash spray stuff and those salespeople are like aggressive sharks. They won't leave you alone while you're pumping gas. Excellent first impression! Very hospitable, I was greeted immediately upon arrival and paperwork was handled within the first 5 minutes by Rick and his team. Need a great mechanic with integrity - go to Rick's Auto! It is in the Shell station in Rancho Bernardo. I was referred by a friend whose husband is extremely picky about his car service and was not disappointed. My car overheated the other day and after letting it sit all day I drove it to Rick's. They assessed my car quickly and 2 different mechanics test drove it. In the end, Rick (the Owner) said there was nothing but a possibly plug in the hose and that everything looked good. And guess what.... no charge! I couldn't believe it! They spent about an hour on my car and probably could have charged me an arm and an leg because I'm a girl and don't understand cars - but they didn't. Went there this morning and Rick gave me an estimate of $330 to service my Transmission, radiator, and power steering. When I came back the bill was $265. He told me that my hoses didn't need replacement and there was no filter for my transmission to replace........only a screen to clean. read more

This has truly been the worst auto experience of my life. I had my brakes done eight months ago and have had my truck back in the shop six times for my brakes squeaking loudly since I first brought the truck in. Every time I bring it back Rick has a new excuse, my tires are too aggressive, the wear on the tread of the tires is uneven causing the brakes to not work right, I need city tires, my truck isn't strong enough to be a pool work truck, it's a 4x4 v8 f150 5.4L extended cab. There's more, I can go on and on about the poor customer service of calling asking for calls back and not getting them, trying to have adult civil conversations on the phone and getting hung up on, being told to come back the next day so I could be taken care of and showing up the next day and the shop not even knowing I was bringing my truck back in. What it comes down to is the truth. Rick is going to BS you, lie to you, and not treat you with customer care, and the worst part is, they'll treat your vehicle the same way, Rock couldn't get my brakes to stop squeaking and voided my warrantee. I didn't even list everything else, I hope this is enough to get you to take your business elsewhere. read more

I totally agree with Walter M.'s review below. This guy (Rick) has no manners, no honesty, is a total rip-off, and a jerk! We took my son's car ('99 Mercedes Benz) to this shop a few months ago, and it took the guy more than 10 days to decide that his transmission needs to be replaced. So, we trusted what we thought was a professional, and replaced the transmission. A few months down the road, my son experienced the same problem with his car, so we towed it back to the shop. This dick.. I mean, Rick... requested diagnostic fees (I may as well have gone to a dealer). When I told him it was the same problem we experienced last time, HE CALLED US CHEAP!!! He said if we didn't want to pay diagnostic fees, we would need to tow the car out of his shop right away. I would highly recommend AGAINST coming here to fix your car. It's a complete waste of time and money, and you will be treated like dirt. read more

He told me exactly what was wrong and had my car finished within the following day which was awesome. Since that first time I've been back to his shop for various other car problems, and he has always shown me exactly what was wrong, given his honest opinion on the damages and repair quotes, and always gives me a good deal price-wise. I bring my car in on my lunch break, and it's done by the time I have to drive home, so convenient for a work schedule. I've been to Rick's shop the last few times I've needed anything for my vehicle, and every time have experienced amazing customer service, and the best prices!
