Took my car in for the emissions control light staying on. I asked for a copy of the diagnostic report. When I got there to pick up the car, they showed me a small compact diagnostic machine that did not provide print outs. The bill said Mass Air Flow Sensor, however the part # was actually a Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor according to NAPA where they bought it. My concern was with an 18 month warranty and the incorrect name of the part on my receipt maybe I should have them correct it. During my conversation with Rick JR he told me he'd never had anyone ask him "200 questions and don't ever bring your car back here". WOW, did he really just say that and have that kind of reaction? I told him not to worry I would NOT be back...especially after finding out he charged me $248 for a $90 part!! Plus labor and spark plugs, out the door for $602. Rip off! In short, watch out all you 68 year old ladies...they see you coming and don't mind taking advantage. I did my research though and I'm guessing that didn't sit well with him. read more

Took my mom's 2015 Chevy Traverse to Ricks RB Automotive after taking it to the dealer . She was told that she immediately needed to have a transmission oil flush. When my 88-year old mother's car died in 100 degree heat, and AAA wouldn't answer, I called Rick's from the Bay Area where I live, since I could not rescue them. He jumped into action. While her retirement place came right away and took her back to apartment, Rick took the caregiver back, as well, to be sure she was safe in the heat, then returned to the car and took care of everything. He was attentive, and communicated with me every step of the way. After fixing it, he even returned my parents' car to its parking spot in the retirement place. I have used Rick's RB Auto Center twice and been very happy. The first time to fix the actuator in my power window, and Rick gave me an estimate, turned out he didn't have the part, had to go get it from Ford, and it was still the same price as the estimate which was still cheaper than the other window I had done at Ford. And they also serviced my AC. Friendly folks, you can tell they get a lot of repeat business, which to me speaks volumes. And I can drop my car off and walk home which is a big bonus. read more

When looking for an auto mechanic, you just wanna know the guy is honest. That's what you get with Rick and his staff. I found him over 10 years ago, and as evidenced by how busy they always are, I'm not the only repeat customers. People will return to a place where they're treated fairly and honestly. On a couple occasions, he's mentioned things to keep an eye on, but that he does NOT feel need to be done now. We all know mechanics who will find a laundry list of things that supposedly need to be done ASAP, but you don't have to worry about that at Rick's. There's even a Starbuck's in the shopping center across the street, so there's a comfortable place to wait for short repairs. Rick's Auto Center is wonderful. My husband has taken both of our cars in to get news brakes,rotors and belts. We also get our cars smog checked as well. I met Rick 6 yrs ago in another station. That station closed and I made sure I kept track of Rick since I appreciate he's honesty, fairness and ability to fix my vehicle and my kids cars. I was very happy for Rick that he open he's own shop! and even close to my home. In run a daycare and it's very difficult for me to leave my home during the day. I found him through Yelp and like James, I was a little skeptical; however, I was thoroughly please with his team's service. My poor VW golf that has been with me through thick and thin finally killed over in a puff of smoke. I thought it was a goner but Rick and his team brought it back to life at a superb price, honoring his initial quote, even when he found a bigger issue with my vehicle's transmission, replacing it with a spare part they had at the shop at no additional cost. This morning I had that awful moment of my car not starting. My usual place couldn't get me in until Tuesday, and since I needed a car, I took a chance on calling Rick, and so happy I did. Rick told me to come right over and he personally did a diagnostic scan on my car and determined it was likely a bad battery. He then had someone drive me over to the store where I bought the battery, and then replaced it for me for free. My car started right up, and my stereo that my usual place had said was completely broken, suddenly worked again too. This is the best gas station around! Owners are always there, and so attentive to all of their customers whether they're spending $400 for the mechanic, $40 of gas or $4 in their shop. Even though it's small it has a great variety of snacks etc. Ash always takes care of business and I trust him and Rick in the shop with my life. We have done every repair needed here in the last several years on our Lexus, Xterra & Camry and have never been dissappointed. This time they installed 4 tires for us and it only took a couple of hours. After calling around to every tire place Discount Costco Express, we found they were the cheapest by $60. Stoked! My car wouldn't start one Saturday afternoon and I had to get it towed, so I picked this place due to distance and high google review. Rick told me right off the bat "this is what I think it might be, if I rush to diagnose it today I might misdiagnose it so it would be better to leave it here until Monday morning when I can really work on it". I live down in San Diego so it wasn't ideal, but because the reviews were so great I said sure, I'll leave it a few days (they're closed Sunday). He actually offered for one of his guys to take my husband and I home when the shop closed in an hour! Monday morning he gave me a call to say this is the problem, this is the cost for the part and the cost for the labor, and this is how much the part would be from the dealership. I double checked the prices he gave me online and he was spot on. Gave him the okay to fix it and when he was done, his son Rick Jr was actually able to drive the car back down to San Diego for me! This father-son combo was SO caring, so good at their work, so honest, and I am very very seriously considering driving the 20-30 minutes up to their shop anytime I need future work done. I just recently had my Toyota prius serviced at Rick's. I admit I haven't had the car serviced for roughly seven years, but it's been a good mover until recently. Had it towed to his garage and he, his son, and his mechanic Tony were some of the nicest people I've ever met (and I just met them yesterday). They even drove me home from their shop! I can't of course guarantee that they would do that for all customers, but who does that these days? They fixed it right up and get this--Rick the owner asked me if I minded if his guy cleaned up the interior of my car so the sensors would work better. It's a work car and when I walk around back I could see that the car hasn't looked that good in years. My wife was astonished, and so am I. Good customer service is hard to come by these days. The car runs great. I'm going to hang on to this guy. If I ever have any trouble with my cars, I know right where to go. So should you. (oh, and by the way, I mean no disrespect to the one reviewer whose daughter was charged five dollars for checking the air in her tires, but I did notice that this was a busy garage located right next to the Shell gas station where the free air guage isn't thirty feet away from Rick's shop. Not sure if it's entirely fair to blame him for taking some of his busy time away to check for something that was free a stone's throw away. Just an honest observation.) read more

I took my car to Ricks because it was making an unknown creaking noise in the tire area when I went over any decent sized bump in the road. $1400 later and 3 visits back to Ricks and my car was never fixed! Day 1: I brought my car in for an estimate and I got a call back from Rick saying the car needs new front struts, rear shocks, and a new belt all for $1400. The cost seemed high, but reluctantly I said okay, do it. I got a call the next day to pick up my car with Rick telling me it's driving like a brand new car. When I drove off the lot, within 30 seconds I heard the same exact noises I brought the car in for. Nothing was fixed! Needless to say, I wasn't happy. I immediately took the car back and asked Rick what is going on here. He gave me some excuse that he didn't test the car, he had his employee test it and that I shouldn't worry, he was going to "make this right" and that I should bring the car back the next day. Day 2: Rick's new diagnosis was the car needed new springs, but he didn't have the parts and that would take a few days to get in. Come back in a few days. Day 3: I brought my back at 4:00pm after Rick says he is ready to install the new parts. I needed the car to be ready by 3pm the next day which Rick said would be no problem. After 8:00pm the next day he finally said the car is ready, but the shop would be closed and I could pick the key up from the Gas station attendant. Guess what? Immediately after I drove off the lot, the same exact noises. Rick never installed new springs. Who knows if he ever planned on fixing anything, and he certainly didn't "make it right". I got no follow up call or anything asking if the problem was fixed. At this point I was done with Rick's forever. I ended up taking my car to the Hyundai dealership where they quickly found the actual problem (control arms) which was only a $500 fix. I asked the guys there how could the previous mechanic miss this, and they gave me a look like whoever you took it to basically has no clue what they are doing. I will never be going back to Rick's. Not only do they not have the skills to diagnose your car's problem, they will find unnecessary items to charge you for. read more

Today I filed a complaint to the bureau of automotive repairs and also the better business bureau about Rick's R&B auto. He replaced my front axle. While the front axle was under warranty the right front seal began to leak. I called Rick and he said the problem was not related to the axle and he would not look at it. I took the car to Secor's auto repair where they recommended I take it to whoever replaced the axle. I told Secor's that the mechanic would not look at the axle or the seal. Secor's repaired the leak. A few days later the car began to leak again. Secor's fixed the leak a second time. They said it was the axle causing the leak and that they would not fix it again. When I took the car back to ricks RB auto, he was as usual, rude and abusive. Finally she agreed to replace the axle with another, similar rebuilt or aftermarket axle. A few days later both seals on both sides of the car began to leak. Rick said he would fix the leaks, but at that point I felt I needed a new, original Toyota parts axle as I could not afford any more down time waiting for my car to be operational. Rick refused and was abusive. The car now sits in my driveway, non-operational, nonsaleable, and an eye sore. read more

I took my car here for the 90,000 mile service and was surprised at how much money I saved compared to what my Mazda dealership wanted to charge. One thing that really made me know I could trust them was that they didn't try to up sell me like the dealership did. The were honest from the start and told me that I didn't need a timing belt (even though most cars do at 90,000 do) Ricks RB even had one of their mechanics drive me home while I waited and then picked me up 3 hours later. Holy Cow! This place sells gas at least $0.26 more per gallon than Arco. Granted they probably have better quality gasoline but wow! That really adds up especially if you drive those big, hunking SUVs. The convenience store is small. The attached Service Center also feels crowded, with cars parked in front of each other like sardines (especially on weekends). I go here only if I am really in need of gas and might not make it home. On price alone, I would rather go elsewhere. read more
