(I've had places treat me like an idiot, overcharge, try to upsell, etc in a way that appeared to be because I'm a woman, as they behaved very differently when a man came in, but not this place.) My Crosstour had a couple of small things wrong, one of which had been left undone by a previous place and the other turned out to be because of a cold snap. caution newport residents do not go to ricks quality import service in newport, unless you want to get ripped off!!!! especially if your by yourself & female, they tried scamming my mom out of $400+ for a job that takes less than 10min & thats being conservative on the amount of time!!! the part cost $98 on amazon & up to $130 through other online vendors, & when my amazing beautiful mom told me that they were going to charge her $400+ i told her nooo wayy & that i would take the pannel off and look at the wireing to figure out the issue myself, well she informed me that they already took the door panel off the driver side & kept it at there shop.... thats when i realized what was happening they're basically holding my moms car door panel hostage so she had to come back, guaranteeing a quick $400+ for a 5 min job!!! & im sooo not okay with scum like them taking advantage of women that are clearly not educated in auto repair! especially when it's family!!! it took me less than 5 minutes to take the door panel off when i installed new door speakers, they were basically charging my mom $300+ for the service of installation that takes less than 5 minutes not cool! so i decided to google the part we needed found one on amazon for $98 on my first search & had mom order it & i told her i would go and pick up the door panel up today, so she wouldn't have to deal with them, well my mom being the kind soul she is called him and asked if she owed them anything for the 5 minutes spent removing the door panel, & he charged her $120.00 to get our panel back from being held hostage!!! this isnt the first time we have had a issue at this location they left my moms other vehicles driver side door pannel barely attached & dangling from the inside driver door when they returned her volvo from getting worked on... so i went to go get our subaru door panel back & explained to them it doesn't cost $400+ to order the $98 part, take the panel off, unplug & re-plug in a new part and put the 5 screws back in to hold the door together & that they shouldn't be charging my mom the $120 for simply removing a few screws & pulling off the panel... well he wasnt going to give us our door panel back unless we paid him the $120.00 so i gave them the 120 and proceeded to walk out front where things escalated to the front desk guy calling me a f-ing pu$$y & other derogatory names bc he wasn't happy that i was right about the situation!! they were unprofessional & absolute deserve a 1 review!! read more

Don't be swayed by a few disgruntled reviews. Rick is a great mechanic and a stand up guy. A shop doesn't stay in business for decades in a small town by providing shoddy workmanship or poor service. Several of the local dealers send their tough jobs to Rick to solve. We had a 60 thousand mile service done and when we picked up the car there was a stain (a circle like the bottom of a can) on the dash that cannot be removed and an extra body plug left in the center console. The owner, a very surly individual, denied causing the stain or leaving the part out saying they were"way too professional" to stain the dash or forget a part. If you go to Rick's, be prepared to pick up a few"leftover" parts and have ugly stains wherever they decide to set something down. read more

Avoid this place, they try to boost their bottom line by taking advantage of people that they think don't know about cars. Took my truck in to get new brake pads. They tried to upsell me on new rear rotors, not because of wear but because new cars have vented ones now or something. They quoted my over $1300 all together. I asked how much it would be without the rotors and they quoted me around $1000, which seemed absurd to me. I took it to Les Schwab for a second opinion. They did replace my calipers, pads, etc for less than $500. read more

I recently brought my car in to Rick's to have some replacement parts put on. They took me on time and were very friendly and pleasant. However, they were unable to replace the trim parts due to the construction of the car, needing a body shop to handle the situation. They had put the car on the lift and throughly considered the job before letting me know they could not fix the problem. They never charged me a cent for doing this and the time it took to look at the car. I was shocked and grateful to have a business in town that exhibited such a high level of knowledge and ethical conduct. I will return to Rick's for any other issues I have with my car.
