The wedding was postponed last year due to Covid. We then had the big wedding this past September. Rick's Flowers was fabulous and i (mother if the bride) wrote about them back then. But this is now and i just had to follow up. Rick went over and above for the wedding. He was there for the fabulous set up and is just the most lovely human being...even under stress. I am a concierge at The Paramount in Reston Virginia. Earlier this morning around 9am I had a resident inquire about a flower delivery from ProFlowers. He asked me if I received any flowers for his unit as it said it was delivered. I hadn't so I suggested for him to follow up with ProFlowers. He assured me that he did and that ProFlowers said they would send him his order again "at no cost to him" on Tuesday May 15th. Being it's Mother's Day TODAY and NOT TUESDAY he was venting to me about this major disappointment. I then told him I would take on the responsibility and make it my number one priority to find a florist that could put together two bouquets for him and have them both delivered here to the condominium before they leave for dinner tonight. He then gave me all the information I needed to place this order including his credit card information and I began contacting florists. After reaching out to six florists in the area I was giving up hope as they all were sending me straight to voicemail. I came across Rick's Flowers and called the number on his website and Rick answered on the first ring. At first he told me they don't usually do orders like this one, as they are an event planning company and typically only do large events. I then told him the situation, told him that no other florists are even answering their phones, told him the budget, and I even offered to pick them up myself. He then described the type of flowers they had in stock and asked if this would be doable and of course it was! Two hours later Rick hand delivered the bouquets himself, and not two bouquets but THREE! I mean talk about amazing customer service! This was a last minute order, he had another event to tend to today and he made it possible for this man to be able to get two bouquets to his wife and mother without a hassle. He was attentive and listened to what my resident requested and he followed through. I had received a "gift certificate" for this store at a $100 value from a wedding expo. As my wedding got closer I contacted Rick's Flowers to see if I could redeem it. They told me I would have to sign a contract for at least $1500 for them to honor this "gift certificate". My fiancée and I just got out of college and are planning and paying for our wedding ourselves. We were banking on being able to redeem this "gift certificate". While I only had a consultation with Rick, I was super disappointed. This was shocking to me since there are so many great reviews online. From the moment we sat down, I felt I was being treated like an inconvenience. I was looking for a florist that would work with me and give me some ideas/inspiration. Instead, he shot down every idea I had while providing none of his own, told multiple stories about "difficult clients" and made it clear he was not a fan of working with my venue. He also made a sarcastic comment about me having "bottomless pockets" because I gave him a range for my budget instead of a solid number. Ultimately, I left feeling very uncomfortable and discouraged. I'm honestly still wondering what happened to make my experience so different from everyone else's! I have been looking for Rick everywhere! He did the flowers for my wedding back in May 2005 at Westfields - he was working elsewhere at the time, he didn't have his own shop back then. I remember visiting him with my mom and going over our budget together. My mom loves flowers and she got along so well with Rick. He made some great suggestions for alternate flowers that were within my budget. The morning of my wedding, I went into the ballroom to check on the flowers. I looked at them, and I said ''Rick, these are gorgeous...but I didn't think I ordered them? They were out of my budget." He said "I know, this is my gift to you. I just love you and your sweet mom!" Thank goodness I checked on him before I had my makeup done because I cried and cried. Those flowers totally made my day and the floating orchids in tall vases were the hit of the reception. Everyone commented on how gorgeous the flowers were. Everything, from the bouquet to the corsages, were top notch. Rick has amazing taste, an even better personality and was by far one of the best vendors I ever worked with at my wedding. Rick's was our florals vendor at our wedding 2 weeks ago and I was extremely satisfied! I'll admit my knowledge of flowers is embarrassingly limited. But after going through a thorough meeting and discussing what my husband and I wanted (which basically involved us giving color preferences and deciding where/what/and how many flowers we wanted in which places) I was amazed at how many details there were to consider. I honestly wasn't sure exactly how everything would end up looking, but Rick clearly had this down to a science and it was clear he was an experienced professional so I felt confident. I'll be honest, there were other aspects of the wedding I was much more opinionated about than flowers since I don't know much about them, but it blew me away how beautiful they were when I first saw them. The decor Rick provided for my daughter's reception at the Hay-Adams Hotel in D.C. made the already beautiful space look magical. We told Rick we wanted a simple, elegant look in the wood-paneled room, but because the wedding was in February, we also wanted sparkle and light. We did not know how to achieve the look we wanted, but Rick and his staff obviously did. They made the room glow with hundreds of candles, sparkle with lots of glass, and exude elegance with arrangements of willow branches and white orchids is tall slender vases. Rick and Arlene were both very responsive and easy to work with, and they clearly know a ton about which flowers will work for a given event and time of year (I admittedly know very little about flowers). Rick walked my husband and me through what we envisioned for our wedding and had numerous suggestions and ideas for how to make our wedding a beautiful event without it costing an arm and a leg. On the day of the wedding, I was extremely impressed with the flowers, which were gorgeous, colorful, and beautifully arranged! Rick's Flowers was included in the list of potential florists we received from our wedding planner (Pollyanna Events) and our caterer had very good things to say about Rick (Purple Onion Catering), as he had done many weddings at our venue (Top of the Town). We liked his website, he laid out what wedding flowers could look like considering different budgets. We didn't know where to begin to estimate what wedding flowers cost for a wedding our size, in our season, at our venue. Rick's website helped us get an idea of what we would like for flowers and what we would like to pay. We met with him, having made the appointment through his very helpful manager, Arlene. Our wedding was going to be in November and I had a few Pinterest ideas on my phone. He took one look at them and told us that so many couples getting married in the fall love these specific burgundy flowers and that they cost a certain amount per stem; he let us know that the bouquet I had pinned on Pinterest was going to cost about $600. Based on our reaction, he gave us great alternatives. He didn't try to upsell us. He was honest and creative. He educated us as to what seasonal flowers really meant. He showed us pictures of what he thought would look best in our venue. We took a leap of faith and went with precisely what he suggested. My bouquet was gorgeous, and the room looked beautiful. What he suggested that made such a difference, and what I would like to share with all couples planning their weddings, is that when it comes to votives, more is more. He advised us not to do the traditional four votives at each round, we used nine or twelve. The room just glowed. People commented on how lovely the atmosphere was. Rick gave us a quote for the votives and it was reasonable, but I could save a little by ordering them myself on Amazon. We did save some money, about 20%, but we had to store them until the wedding, deliver them to the venue, and arrange for their disposal, as well as taking them all of the shipping boxes, cleaning them up and removing the broken ones. In hindsight, we should have just paid a little more and Rick would've handled all of that. We highly recommend Rick's Flowers. He and Arlene took wonderful care of us and we were very happy with the service, the cost, and the end result. read more

My husband and I worked with Rick's Flowers for our September wedding, and we were very pleased with the results. However, there were two things about working with them that warranted the 4 star rating: the first meeting and an error on the day of our wedding. I'll admit I don't know much about flower design, but I was certain about the size and amount of flowers that we wanted for our wedding. Based on all their positive reviews, I was hopeful going in to our first meeting. However, literally the first few words out of Rick's mouth when I met him were a complaint about how his day was going, and all the work he was swamped with. I politely asked him about this and he went on for quite a while before even starting the consultation. Arlene was out that day and he was running things on his own, so perhaps I came in during a particularly trying time, but I was deflated at this rough start. I came to Rick's hoping for some more guidance on design, and although I received it, it was a long and drawn out process (I was there for nearly 2 hours). I had brought in some inspiration pictures of bouquets I thought might work with our color scheme, and although I honestly had no delusions about having a "Pinterest-perfect wedding", Rick proceeded to go on about how many of his customers want just that without realizing the cost and effort that goes into such events. I told him I understood and asked him for his opinions about what flowers could work with our color scheme, but he kept pressing that point, which I found annoying. I realize he was trying to be helpful and keep things realistic (since they stress how reasonable their prices are on their website), but I was frustrated that he didn't seem to believe me that I didn't want elaborate centerpieces and bouquets made up of exotic, out-of-season flowers that would cost a fortune. I also stressed that I wanted a smaller bridal bouquet (similar in size to a bridesmaid's bouquet), because all the ones on their website were huge in my opinion (nearly all the brides could barely wrap their hand around the stems or were hidden behind these massive bouquets in their wedding portraits) and I wanted to be sure I could hold my bouquet easily with one hand and that it wouldn't overwhelm the pictures - especially since I planned to have a simple dress. This seemed to annoy Rick, and he explained that a bridal bouquet should make the bride stand out from the rest and that it was important to the overall aesthetic of the day. I think he may have thought I was trying to cut down the price, but it really was just a practical matter for me. He also explained that making the bouquet smaller would limit the number and types of flowers that could be used (I understand that there is an art to flower arrangement and it is not easy to do), and although I appreciated his candor and I was fine with this, I couldn't help feeling that I was making this more difficult for him (especially considering his complaints earlier in the meeting). This isn't to say that Rick wasn't pleasant or charming (he was), he just did not come off his best that day in my opinion. Ultimately, we worked out a rough estimate for what my husband and I wanted, but I left feeling unsure about the whole thing. I researched some other florists, and it became apparent that Rick's Flowers was by far the most organized, competent, and best priced in our area. We signed with them, and things were much better after that initial meeting: both he and Arlene were responsive and quick with communication; answered detailed questions thoroughly; gave complete and comprehensive invoices; and my husband and I felt positive everything would work out on the big day. Which it did, save for one flub. I wanted to wrap my bouquet with lace from my mother's wedding dress, along with a medallion of hers. I was told I could bring these items in to the shop before the event so my bouquet would arrive at our venue all ready to go. I went to the studio with these items several weeks in advance, and actually watched Arlene write out instructions for how I wanted everything arranged and saw her file these things with the rest of my order. However, on the day of the wedding, my bouquet did not have these items on it, and I understandably didn't notice this until it was time to take pictures. Not only did I panic that this wasn't ready, I was scared that my mother's lace and medallion were lost. Thankfully, our day-of coordinator contacted Rick and Arlene (who had just finished up at our venue and were on the road) and Arlene was able to hurry back and put everything together quickly. Although everything worked out, this was an unnecessary stress that could have been avoided (especially since they seemed so organized otherwise). In all, the flowers were gorgeous, everything was as we imagined it would be, and things ultimately worked out. I would recommend Rick's Flower's, but based off our experience, there is always room for improvement. read more

If I could put no stars I would, Rick was the rudest, most unorganized, and penny pinching person I have ever attempted to work with. He had dogs running throughout the place which I don't have a problem with dogs but they were not clean. He called me 20 minutes before my appt and barked at me to make sure I was coming. Once we arrived, the place was backed in a corner in a very small space, he brought us upstairs where there were pictures scattered everywhere , completely disorganized. He then went to chat about weddings he has done and gave us about 7 pictures to look at. I am the BRIDE and he cut me off several times when I was talking and once even said " we value customers that Daddy writes checks for". The prices were OUTRAGEOUS and it was disgusting how he wanted to rip a new young couple that are having their wedding. Completely appalled by his attitude, lack of respect and professionalism. I never once felt special when seeing him , and completely regret going there to waste one second of my valuable time. I will be spreading the word about this, my brother is getting married and a few of my friends. We can guess where they will NOT be going, i would never have someone go through what I went through. read more
