Let me start by saying folks at the shop are nice and the customer service is fine. That said, if your coming here for a fade/tapered haircut, you're better off going elsewhere. I came here in a pinch because I needed a haircut and my barber had no appointments. Dong cut my hair. Overall the fade was okay, but it looked like he accidentally went too high in one of the strokes and it was pretty evident. He insisted it was just that "my hair was difficult in that part" and not his mistake. I still asked that he try to fix it, but it ended up uneven. Went in here for a cleanup on my fade, was told they "don't cut women".. I wasn't coming in and asking for a haircut, I was asking for a fade-which would be like any other guy coming in and getting a fade. The employee who answered was a skinny asian man and seemed very close minded and stubborn with his answer, as in a woman asking for a fade was something terrible. This past Saturday, 28 January 2012 ... I come into Rick's about 2:20 PM but there's about four other people in front of me. So, I go take a seat. Then a Vietnamese woman, in her mid-twenties says "Next" but nobody moves. I look around and said, "Oh, who's next? I don't want to butt in line". They all point to another barber and say they are waiting for him. Well, my haircut was just fine with one exception I noticed but she fixed while I was still in the chair. Worst experience of my life. If you want a barber who will do the exact opposite of what you ask for or the exact opposite of the pictures you show, go see Dong. I must also say that i signed up for yelp to review this because it was just such a bad experience. The upsetting part is I've heard such good things about this place for such a long time. I've been going to Rick's Barber Shop for over 20 years. I've gone through two barbers who have retired, and now use the other barbers, most often Vivian. I've never been disappointed. First cutting will take a bit longer since I try to explain how I want it cut so they can do it right, and learn what I am looking for. Sometimes adjustments will be made, if needed, after we review the original "finished" product. All Vietnamese except Vicki. They seem to all have loyal customers who ask for them specifically. This place is great. I've been coming here for over a decade now and can tell you that these guys will cut your hair exactly or almost exactly how you want it even if it's your first time. They are also amazing at hiring new barbers when old ones have to leave/retire. Dong is currently my barber, but I've seen many people go for George and the others. I always have my hair cut as a close taper on the sides and back. I have had my hair cut by Vicki, Vivian and George at Rick's Barber. All have given me a good haircut. Dong has cut my son's hair twice, a simple little boys cut. Each time Dong has done a fine job. I know it's difficult to find places with which one is pleased. WORST "Barber Shop" EVER Went in on a Friday afternoon. Noticed 3 other people waiting though one of the "barbers" appeared to be free. Soon after I sat down he called next but no one else moved and motioned to me (I would soon find out why they would rather wait). I asked for a simple mens haircut short back and sides, longer on top. What I got was a disaster that looked like it had been done by a blind, retarded, one-armed chimp. Toddlers who cut their own hair look better than I did after George was done with me. After he said he was finished I was at a loss, both at where to begin to explain the general horribleness of the hair cut, and at the gall that George expected to be paid for such an obviously worthless effort. Then out of nowhere the "barber" at the next chair over told me to sit and wait till she was done with her current customer and she would "fix" my hair. After waiting awhile a third "barber" called me to her chair where her efforts to "fix" the original botch job were to cut my hair shorter and shorted until she essentially shaved my head into a crew cut. So after wasting more than an hour, two shit haircuts and a cost of $15 I look like a cancer patient or someone trying to treat a case of lice. Thanks Ricks, YOU SUCK!!! read more

i dont know how true this could be,but i worked with an asian lady,who i used to with there and i know for a fact that she can not cut,when we worked together half of the times i had to fix her haircuts cuz customers got irriates cuz she had no idea wat she was doing,and about this place being the only barber shop in gaithersburg/rockville that"gets it" is a big statement,cuz i know for a fact that there are alot of barbershops that can do a high skin fade,like primos barber shop and also rockville hair design off rockville pike do those types of haircuts,including designs,dont get me wrong i`m glad that the review before is happy with his cut but to say that it seems to be the only barbershop in gaithersburg/rockville to only do a good job is insane,with all due respect read more
