We stopped here famished after spending the day hiking the nearby falls and - as advertised - found this place located conveniently located in the middle of nowhere. ;) It was about 6:30 on a Wednesday night - we were asked if we had a reservation (we didn't) but the server found us a table for 2 in the relatively small dining area. Within minutes people started piling in ...by the time our food came there wasn't an empty seat in the house! It seems that there are a lot of regulars here - which makes sense, being out in the country. We wanted to eat light and went with salads - I ordered the Chef Salad - mine was chock full of meat (I'm not complaining!) ...really hit the spot! Our server was very friendly & attentive and made sure to get our order in ahead of the large group that had come in after us. Salads may not be culinarily exciting - but they were quite good! Food was great once initial issues were addressed. Stake under cooked noodles not fresh. They fixed it and gave us a desert. Cheesecake was great and chicken Marsala was great. I loved this place. We went hiking and all we wanted was a hot meal and they delivered. I got the French onion soup which was better than I expected. Perfect balance of salt, cheese and onion. My friend got the clam chowder and he said he would get it again. We got the mussels as well to share and the sauce was awesome. It did have a little spice which I was happy with but maybe not for everyone. Our server was SO SWEET! She chatted and we discovered so many new places to explore around here. Yup, that's the motto and it holds true therefore since there is absolutely NOTHING for miles, let's treat you like shit and you'll like it otherwise eat shit! I had been out all day in a region I completely knew absolutely nothing about other than the maps I had for the local mountains I was visiting. Cellular reception can be extremely bad in the area so this place is literally the only place for miles. It was late but nowhere near closing so I opted for take-out and the first words out of the waitresses mouth was, "We are really busy so if you want something it's going to take a long time, at least a half hour!" I thought for a very brief moment as my stomach rumble wondering, "Is that code out here for get the freak out of here cause I'm too busy and your money is no good here!" Well, I burst her bubble cause I was famished after hiking the mountain ALL day and placed an order! After ordering my signature burger and fries sure enough I waited about half-hour. Makes me wonder did they intentionally make me wait that long. Even after consuming my burger I was hopefully optimistic that it was worth the heartache and painful customer service interaction but it was an average burger at best. Fries weren't even crunchy like deep fried fries should be. Sadly, this is literally the only place in the immediate area for like 100 miles (or so it feels) so you're stuck dealing with the crappy service. read more

Cute little place out in the country. There is indoor, outdoor and bar seating. I had the chicken parmesan with a side of spaghetti and it was delicious! One of the best I've had. My friend had the seafood platter (it was the special), which was two or three pieces of shrimp, a few scallops and a generous piece of flounder. She gave me some to try- the flounder was little fishy for me, the scallops were pretty good but the shrimp was just ok. Everything was very salty. The steak salad had quality steak but the lettuce was a little old and wilted. The clam chowder was ok. Calamari was frozen and not great. The biggest issue was the marinara sauce on the chicken parm. It was some of the worst sauce I've ever been served. It was orange, tasted like a combination Chef Boyardee and ketchup. I can't believe they serve it in a restaurant. They serve it with one little scoop of linguine on a small saucer. For $22 I would expect a decent plate of pasta at least. After our hike in Ricketts Glen, my brother and my sister-in-law decided to have dinner at the Ricketts Glen Hotel in Benton, Pennsylvania. Their sign says in the middle of nowhere and it is! You enter via a small bar area and the dining room is to the right. We were brought menus, drink orders were taken, and we ordered. I got their signature dish--Chicken à la Rickett's--sautéed chicken breasts in a sauce of prosciutto ham, mozzarella, fresh mushrooms, and sherry wine. We each got a salad as a starter and got sides of fresh steamed broccoli and in my case, French fries. The chicken was very good. The nice sauce with the chicken was good and we had ample bread that I used to soak up some of the leftover sauce. Service was excellent. Our server was a very pleasant, smiling woman who made us feel very welcome here in the middle of nowhere. Definitely some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. My friend and I had just finished hiking at Ricketts Glen and figured we would stop and grab a few appetizers before he headed back to Pittsburgh and I went back to Wilkes Barre as opposed to heading all the way back to the Dallas area for food so he could get on the road sooner. When we walked in, no one greeted us and after about 10 min, we finally got seated, only to end up waiting approximately another 20 minutes for multiple servers to pass by us and not take our order. Didn't even get a glass of water or our drink orders in that time. We ended up leaving and getting ice cream at Red Rock down the road. Honestly, a much better decision. Afterwards, seeing previous reviews, we did wonder if the reason for our lackluster service compared to other patrons was due to my heritage. read more

What a surprising find. I've driven by here quite a few times going between Williamsport and Wilkes Barre, parking lot was rarely empty. Finally took a ride up on the bike to check it out, girlfriend following on her valiant steed. Pull in off Rte 118 to an open and spacious crushed stone parking lot. Small size lake (man made?) at the rear of the property takes up a couple square miles and provides a nice view. After parking, the main entrance to the restaurant brings you through their patio, entering at ~15 person full bar. The front facade give the place has the feel of being a converted house in parts, with big additions off of it. Not homely in the least, but I wanted to give you a sense of scale. Walking in reinforces that idea. Ceilings are of good height, and the place was dated but quite clean. So, the food? *Great quality* for being in the "middle of nowhere", priced incredibly reasonable for the portion sizes. Sometimes these remote outposts are questionable, but the raw materials were top notch. We each had the Steak and Ale Chowder, which is a must have. Think New England Clam Chowder w/o clams, sub steak and a healthy dose of ale. Great consistency, not salty - just yum. Girlfriend got a one-size-fits-all huge portion of fish and chips, the batter looked like it was cooked appropriately. I had the "house specialty" Roast Beef Rickets - essentially a roast beef sandwich with swiss, horse-radish spread, fresh bun. Everything was great, but I felt the beef stock they used in roasting the beef was far too salty for my preference. (Note: I *rarely* use salt, so I am more particular/sensitive about it). If planning a drive/ride in that area of PA, this place is definitely worth planning your route to stop at for lunch. I honestly don't know what else is in this remote area to compare to, but overall we had a solid experience and will stop here again. read more

Found this gem after hiking the Falls! We did not have a reservation but only waited about 15 minutes for dinner on a Saturday night. Our waitress was fantastic, she was pleasant and extremely attentive taking time talking to our 7 year old son. Dinner was amazing. We had mussels and crab stuffed mushrooms for apps which had lump crab meat. Dinner was NY strip and mushrooms for my husband which didn't need A-1. It was juicy and flavorful. I got the haddock covered in crab meat which I found to be just perfect. I cannot rave enough about this little restaurant. We will definitely be back! read more

My husband and I visited Ricketts Glen SP for our 1 year wedding anniversary. The place we stayed was nearby. Our host recommended the hotel for dinner. Our first night there, my husband ordered the steak and I ordered Chicken Ricketts-- we took the server's recommendation and I LOVED my meal. Everything was delicious from the caesar dressing to the main entree. We tried the potato log which I would describe as having a similar taste to a pierogi, with its own distinctive flavor. The food was so good, we returned the next evening for dinner. This time we ordered the wings....wow!! They were humongous and delicious--crispy, the right amount of sauce, and meaty-- again, taking the server's recommendation of their own sauce they lovingly refer to as mouse trap.
