delicious Portuguese hot chopped peppers - perfect companion to eggs & corned beef hash.
    Judy J.

I'm not really sure how I've had a place in Hyde Park for over 10 years and only NOW found this amazing gem. We headed over for Sunday brunch, which was SUPERB - we loved the general store drugstore atmosphere - it's almost as if it was frozen in time! We took the two empty seats at the counter and drooled over the menu - basic breakfast and lunch fare, all made to order. The whole place is family run, the woman cooking is (I was told) Richy's daughter, and she was assisted by a polite, friendly and helpful young (teenage) gentleman who was just learning the ropes of the family business. We ordered coffees (we waited for a fresh pot - I find that type of wait WORTH it!) eggs with bacon, hash browns and pumpernickel for him, eggs with bacon and corned beef hash for me, everything was cooked in front of us perfectly to order - classic, simple, and JUST what we wanted. Add to that, they have Portuguese hot peppers, which were the perfect companion to our meal, and we got ourselves some necco wafers and a lottery ticket afterwards. I left happy as a clam, and we'll definitely be back.

Their seasonal drinks and syrups are equally as fun: mole mocha, lemonade matcha spritzer, salted maple, all of which are housemade, tasty, and executed well. Their market of unique and artisanal goods is also worth checking out while you're there. Once you get over the sticker shock (this isn't your standard corner store or packie!), you'll find plenty of fun items from both here and elsewhere, all the good stuff you want to treat yourself to: ingredients, snacks, meals, drinks, desserts, the whole 9. They also have a small but well-done breakfast and lunch menu of mainly sandwiches- and from time to time, they do rotisserie chicken dinner specials, which I wish they did more often because that's a perfect grab-and-go family meal at the end of a long day. If you're looking for "cheap", look elsewhere- but IMO the quality of everything justifies the price. The staff are always very nice, it's locally owned, and has both a front and back patio to enjoy your drink and sando in the nice weather (inside there's like, 1 table).

But for me, the real delight, is their hot food and coffee offerings. It's become our weekend breakfast/brunch haunt. The breakfast sandwich is delicious and after a small request, they agreed to sub the chorizo for avocado to make it vegetarian. I always appreciate this flexibility from the staff. The star of the show however is their breakfast wrap with the zhoug sauce. Made to order freshly scrambled eggs, a crispy hash brown, that delicious green sauce and you're in taste bud heaven. Of course, I cannot forget about their coffee. Mad respect for anyone that makes in house syrups and does not use that fake bottled stuff. And the coffee is strong but smooth too. We also tried the matcha strawberry latte with the fresh strawberry syrup (it's a bit more jammy than I prefer and so not the easiest to mix) but tasty nevertheless. This is a great addition to the neighborhood and might I add, we're happy they're here.

My go to nights were weekdays because they have a great bartender that goes above and beyond to make sure you're comfortable and have exactly what you want. Outside of her the drinks are ok. I had the pizza it's pretty good, the Haitian meals give you the best value, it's loaded with sides although they're hit or miss and the downfall of this place is that they're always out of something. It's usually pretty slow with traffic and the waitstaff at times you have to look for them (especially when you're ready to leave lol). This place has great potential but I would say it's hit or miss most of the time.

In particular, the "Grassfed Burger" currently on the menu deserves to be considered among the best burgers in Boston, and is hands-down the best I've ever had in this city under $20. BRB&G (had they only the foresight to be Boston Restaurant Bar Grill & Ribeye!!) is a tasty and affordable delight with an easygoing but hardworking staff who make every effort to handle challenges and treat old and new customers with respect and a level of culinary skill that shows definite signs of significant current delights and future opportunities. I look forward to coming back.

I even recommended the owner for an award from the city that they won. I truly believed in this place. But over the years I have been noticing changes. I did not write about them because I understand running a restaurant is hard. But today was the last straw. I placed an order with uber eats. The courier was nice enough to text me and say they sold out of my meal. Allegedly the restaurant tried to contact me. When I called them directly they told me I needed to cancel because uber is a third party. This is why I am upset. I have been using uber for years. Different states and different countries. People have always been able to get a hold of me. Most of the time the receipt comes printed with your number. Second, they could of canceled the order and spare both my time and the courier time. The person was on a bike! My time was wasted because I had to go through prompts to get a person. But uber told me via bot that the restaurant needs to cancel otherwise, I would only receive a partial refund. I don't mind they ran out. I mind my time and the couriers were wasted because they didnt want to do the work to cancel. Now I feel embarrassed for supporting because they don't care.

I had no issue with the 20% gratuity (our service was good) but they have the nerve to still have a line for additional tip on the receipt (I normally tip 15-20%). I would return.

It was their first time organizing it so definitely a bit chaotic and several kinks to work out but I'd say it was a success and hope they make it an annual tradition. We ordered a bunch of apps to try and enjoyed them all - Beets with shiso labne, goat cheese and currant croquettes, buttermilk fried pickles, veggie dumplings. Everybody's favorite were the buttermilk fried pickles. Generous portion, very crispy, and downright yummy. Each of us ordered a cocktail and we enjoyed those as well. We also tried the throwdown flight (coffee + cocktail) and that was probably the only thing we didn't enjoy as much - but maybe that's just us! Highly recommend food-wise. Service was a bit hit-or-miss that evening. Took a looooong time for anyone to take our order and we had to keep craning our necks to flag down the wait staff, especially if you're sitting at the long center table. They also got us pork dumplings first and when we mentioned it, they apologized and brought over the veggie dumplings. But it was a busy night so I'll just say, it happens.

The menu is fairly simple, but they do offer desserts I didn't try this time--things like apple cider donuts--which looked delicious and generously sized. Service was friendly and welcoming. I also had a chai that wasn't quite my favorite, but that didn't take away from the overall experience. I was able to get some work done without being consistently bothered, which I really appreciated. I'll definitely be back.
