Received my order in the mail and the Rosemary was dead and my tomatoes plants and one Joe pyeweed died 2 days later. I have always bought my plants from them but the past two years my order has been disappointing in the quality of their product, was so much better before. I used to order, online, from Richter every single year. Then the pandemic happened, and I received an order of tiny plants, in bad shape, and decided to give them a break. Fast forward to 2023. I placed an order for plants back in April. I ordered from them and several other shops on the same day. Two, three weeks later, I had everything but my Richter's order. I filled out their contact form asking when I could expect my order and got... crickets. So, a week or so later, I sent an email and was told my order was being prepared and would ship right away. Two weeks later, I asked again when it was being shipped and was told, "more than half is ready." Now, here we are ten days later, moving into June, and my order still hasn't shipped. Their plants are annuals, and the season is only so long.... not to put too fine a point on it, but I could have started these plants from seed on the day I ordered and they'd be grown by now -- is that what Richter's is doing? I have literally harvested from some of the plants I bought at the same time from other vendors already. No other nursery that I order from has these shipping problems, and it seems a pretty universal complaint from them. Richter's (supposedly) has variety beyond what anyone else has, and I'm saddened that I'm not going to be getting these plants. Was in the area today and dropped in to see what was there. Left with a few plants and some seeds. Still early for a large variety to choose from as it's only mid february. The greenhouse was lovely as it cold but sunny outside and just tropically warm inside. What a treat. read more

I placed an order and while my jasmin plants arrived ok, my swiss mint was dead. It was sent all cut down, brown with 2 tiny dying leaves on it. IThe plants also arrived in a box to small and whe I cut to open it sliced off the top of a plant as they were all crammed in. I contacted them within hours and after a week have not heard a word. I will never order from them again. read more

I have been ordering plants and seeds from Richters for a few years now. I love the variety of medicinals and native plant species. I love the descriptions online and in the catalogues which come in handy when I make my own teas. I don't mind the wait for shipping in spring. If you are a green thumb and loves herbs/spices, I highly recommend you check out Richter's Herb in early spring! I am amused and excited to see all the selections during late fall. I just love the aromatic herbs: there are over 10 different types of lavenders/basil/sage/rosemary and more! Sniff Sniff Sniff! So good for the senses! I already have a vision. A few herb baskets in the garden that I am going to put together when it is warm enough. And for the time being, there are dried herbs and spices that available in packages for purchase. read more

A nightmare when ordering online. I recommend either shopping in person at their store, or going elsewhere. They took my money as soon as I ordered, April 12th, but I still didn't have my plants on May 19th. I did enquire what was happening and was told they were busy filling other orders. Came with my wife and son to explore, to buy plants and to enjoy the beautiful greenhouse late in the winter. Unfortunately staff were blasting music from both sides of the greenhouse, making it sound like a bar, and sales help were vapid and unwelcoming. Richters Herbs is a gardeners nursery, no flash just plants and good customer service. Ordered in February plants for May 1, email arrived early picked up plants as ordered all survived, strong specimens and bore fruit. The young ladies I dealt with at the register where accommodating went looking for the plants I could not find. Not as refined as the gardening stores in Toronto, but you are paying double and triple for the same product, I like to find the The Diamond In The Rough. read more

Now that the gardening season has started, I decided to make a visit to this local nursery to see what's in store for this years crops. Upon entering, the perfume of herbs and lavender just floats in the air. They carry an extensive selection of herbs--anything for culinary, medicinal or aromatic purposes in the greenhouse. The selection was HUGE, for example Mint, they even had over 10+ varieties. I was pretty lost with what to choose, luckily a very nice lady named Bonnie assisted me. She was able to answer my questions very thoroughly and suggested I start with the basics first (oregano, thyme, basil, sage, rosemary). A new discovery I made, Barbeque Rosemary! They grow out to be long woody stems, perfect to pluck the leaves off and skewer your meat directly onto the stems. When cooked, the rosemary aroma will flavour the meat! HOW AWESOME IS THAT?! They also have a good selection of trinkets to adorn your garden as well, I picked up a few ceramic herb signs but they forgot to give me the hooks that go with it. I guess I'll have to make another trip. Though the prices aren't cheap, you get very healthy and good looking plants. And Bonnie tells me, by mid May, they'll have their other greenhouse opened with a wide array of Heirloom vegetables. I'm super excited about that! Do not use these people, very poor quality and customer service is event worse! I ordered over $500 of lavender and it was receive late on September 1. Called on September 5 and the girl handling claims was out of the office, but left my information. I have to follow up the next week and this time I had to send picture and let them know what didn't make it - did so promptly and I was open to sending new product or a credit. They said more that 2 days and they couldn't credit - I explained it was a holiday weekend and I called the second business day. They are were going to check and get back to me - I followed up 4 more times and no one ever follows up and this is still unresolved and so now I have had to start a claim with the credit card company. Very impressive selection of all items herbal and related, but don't expect the management to want your business. I purchased over $70 of merchandise including SJW seeds, which I had never planted before. I had some basic questions about fall planting which I emailed 2 weeks ago. I never received a reply despite an assurance of 4 days and the frost is fast approaching. So in my experience they'll take the time to sell you stuff but not to respond to your queries. It definitely pays to go there to buy as the shipping charges are outrageous. read more

Good selection but be prepared to pay for their mistakes. Ordered one item consecutive years, was told the previous year that the item was unavailable, so said ok, then reordered the next spring and they waited until after two seasons to send the original "backordered" item that we had ordered almost two years prior as well as the one we had ordered this year. Contacted and was told to ship item back, sent it back, asked for refund, had the audacity to tell us that they were already doing us a favor by not charging a "restocking fee" and no they won't refund the return shipping but will refund the price of the item. I've spent $1000 with this company in the last two years and I won't be spending another penny with them, I won't pay for somebody else's mistakes. They stole my money once so I won't give them another opportunity. read more
