As I've gotten older and experience new and frightening health challenges, I have come to appreciate and value thorough and caring physicians like Dr. Michael Richter above all else. His broad knowledge (he is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics) and his laser-focused attention to detail offer me great calm and positivity in my current uncertain medical situation that is absolutely necessary for my eventual (and hopefully full) recovery. There's nothing like a serious illness to cause stress and anxiety in all areas and aspects of one's life, and Dr. Richter's reassuring advice, great sense of humor and sage instruction has eased that anxiety and provided a stable foundation on which to begin my journey to wellness. I came to Dr. Richter on the advice of a friend just over a year ago when I left my doctor in Manhattan who had far too many patients in his large group practice to notice that I was actually far more ill than he had diagnosed. Dr. Richter, a rare solo practitioner in Rego Park, recommended a battery of tests that my other doctor had not, and unfortunately, the diagnosis was bladder cancer. Thankfully, and solely due to Dr. Richter's insistence, care and genuine concern for my health, we caught it early and are currently working to resolve the issue in a few different ways. Thank God for doctors like Dr. Richter! There simply are not enough of them, and it will be a very sad day for the people of this city if Dr. Richter ever decides to retire. His assistant Bridget is also very friendly, caring and extremely knowledgeable, and the rest of his staff and interns are also very helpful and supportive. The man literally helped me dodge a bullet, and there aren't enough words to express my gratitude and appreciation. He has been my son's pediatrician since for 10 years. We feel very lucky that we found him online. It wasn't obvious in the beginning, but Dr. Richter is friendly, funny and most importantly caring about his patients. His office may seem unconventional at first. I don't know other clinics with a dog roaming (my son always loved that) and doctors wearing shorts and sandals. He jokes with his patients and staff all the time. Emergency ailment necessitated I quickly find a good physician & I was fortunate going to Dr Richter. Excellent staff, amazingly quick turnaround time on blood&urine work, userid and p/w allows access to lab work, and very convenient location and hours. Prescription and refills easily accomplished via web so be sure and have your desired CVS/Rite-AID selected prior to filling our your initial office forms. Medicare and Supplemental plans accepted which instill confidence there will be no hassles. If you are like me and very PC conversant you will appreciate how organized Dr Richter is. If you need blood drawn be sure and request Bridget otherwise be prepared for PA's to "poke and hope". You can probably find more attractive medical facilities however at the end of the day I'd gladly sacrifice office decor for experience and knowledge Update: 3/19/2020! On the mend and I'm prescribed 2 meds by Dr Richter and daily readings of my BP are trending downward dramatically. Don't know 100% if it is because of the 2 meds ameliorated by both diet and lifestyle changes but who care just so long as good results are achieved. Dr Mike rocks! read more

While his methods may be a tad unorthodox and his demeanor, might be different than what most people would expect from a doctor, his skill and knowledge are certainly above and beyond most similar physicians. I have known Dr Richter for nearly 10 years, and I can tell you that he is a kind, caring, extremely intelligent, albeit quirky individual. He has always treated me with courtesy and respect. He takes time to talk with me, laughs at my jokes, looks at my vacation photos, and makes me feel like he cares. Whenever he tells me that an ache or pain will go away by itself, it DOES. And most importantly, he never makes me feel that my concerns are trivial. I rarely get sick enough to require an office visit to the doctor however my 6 year old daughter has required frequent visits to Dr Richter over the years. I find him very capable and patient. I have always felt that he has taken my daughter's complaints seriously and almost always has good advice about what to do. Dr. Richter is my family doctor. He has treated my two kids since they were born. He is very patient and thorough with the children and always assists me and my wife when we are ill. I have no complaints. Whenever I have a question, he completely and thoroughly explains. He is not a doctor that is quick to prescribe antibiotics and I am grateful for that. His office is well run and the staff is always courteous. He is a busy doctor with a tight schedule and that is because he is in demand. I could easily switch to a doctor in Manhattan with a fancy office, but I will take a doctor who is kind, truly listens and cares, but has a well-worn office over someone who rushes me out of the door. He has a great sense of humor, asks a lot of questions, does not order unnecessary tests, and so far the referrals for specialists he has given me have been great. Dr Michael Richter is the worst doctor i have ever had the displeasure of being spoken too by. He was beyond rude and dismissive not to meantion vulgar refering to the room i was being attended at (in his own words) "A cheap WHORE house". After i had spent almost 2 hours speaking with the nurse he walks in with an attitude barely looks me in the eye and atributes all i had to say to mear stress. He took no time or professional intrest in helping me find the best care options for me. Dr. Richter has been my family doctor since 1997. Recently, I had a false negative neurological test performed at his office. When I spoke to Dr. Richter and said I refused to pay for a test that had not been performed thoroughly, he attempted to intimidate me in a very rude and offensive manner, threatening to take me to collections. I first started going to Dr. Richter a week after my son was born. He s a patient, knowledge man, who takes his time with his patients making sure all questions are answered and that we are comfortable when leaving his office. He is gentle with my son, even when administering shots and is not an alarmist. Dr. Richter has on several occasions contacted us after hours to make sure that our son is alright, as well as, but not limited to, returned our calls late at night to assure us when he is sick and then takes him first thing in the morning. I know of few doctors that would offer to open their office on a Sunday morning to check on a child, but Dr. Richter does and will. The office is inviting, and while it may be dated in appearance, that only enhances its charm, as it tells his patients that thousands were seen and treated within those walls. This alone is comforting. The office is always very clean and well maintained. To Suny a doctor cannot adequately access a newborn who is fully clothed, to think so is disingenuous on your part and every subsequent doctor you brought your child to would have required you removing her clothing. Had Dr. Richter not requested it, he would have done a disservice to your child. And really, what mother would want their newborn to get a shot, a Hep B one at that, on the arm, it is simply not done Your review is unfair and clearly malicious. Dr. Richter is a kind, patient and honest man and I feel lucky that he has agreed to accept us as patients and is treating my family. I trust him completely! Additionally, Dr. Richter's staff is kind, knowledgable and tireless in making sure a person's insurance pays their part. If anyone had an issue with a bill, then I would assume from my experience, that the bill was outstanding for several months. Everyone deserves to be paid for their work, it is unconscionable to refuse to pay Dr. Richter after he provided a service. Before I move to Florida in a few days I just wanted to write that I've been a patient of Dr. Richter for 19 years and he has been a very fine doctor who always spent the time to carefully listen to whatever problem I went to see him about. After I returned from the hospital after major surgery in December 2011 he was quite helpful in monitoring my condition while I was recovering from the surgery. My mother-in-law and I brought my one-month old daughter to Dr. Richter for Hepatitis B vaccination on 1/31/13. During the time of examination, we needed to feed the baby because she was crying. And he left the room. After we finish feeding the baby he came back to the room and asked us to take off the baby's clothes. My mother-in-law doesn't speak English, she asked me to tell him if we can just take off the baby's sleeve so he could perform the vaccine injection. Suddenly, he yelled at my mother-in-law," I told you 20 minutes ago to take off the baby's clothes," with very rude attitude. I fought back and told him, " you can't yell us like that, you can yell your patients like that". Then, he said, " I am not going to give her the vaccination today" with angry tone. Instead, he asked us to take off the baby's clothes to perform the rest of the examination so that he can collect the insurance claim for the visit. I did not want him to continue the examination because he refused to give my baby vaccination shot which was the purpose of our visit. This is the first time I had a such a horrible experience at a doctor's office. He is rude to patient, even to a one-month old patient, he refused to provide service to her. We came to the office in a windy day and waited for a long time to get the paper work and insurance set up in the office. In addition, his clinic is very old without any updates. It looks like it has not been updated for a few decades. Dr. Richter is a very bad doctor with no care to patients. Not only that, he discriminates to patients who could not speak English. read more

i have been going to dr. michael richter since he started practicing - my parents used to be treated by his father (dr. sam richter). dr. michael is a patient, compassionate and extremely gifted doctor. i had cellulitis in my breast once and when antibiotics didn't work - dr. richter immediately sent me to a surgeon to have the cyst and infection removed. he even called me that night, which was the day before Thanksgiving to see how i was. he cares about his patients - he takes the time with each patient and listens to what they say. he put me on blood pressure medicine, which i needed to be on - but my former cardiologist missed it. he's a gread doctor - just like his father was. dr. sam richter must be very proud of his son. read more
