Today I took my daughter who had to travel and hour and miss work to have her teeth cleaned. I was informed that she could not have her teeth cleaned unless she had x-rays. It would cost two hundred and sixty five dollars, I only had enough money to pay for the cleaning. They would not clean her teeth! The office manager was curt and not very pleasant. It appears that it is "all about the money" and not about dental care any more. All the crew that used to work there were gone. I guess that tells you something. They should have made us aware of their new practices on the phone which they did not. I understand that they are a business but they were wrong not to inform us. I would never go back this this dentist again and would suggest that others do the same unless you have a pile of money with you! AMN

Atlantic Dental (AD) REQUIRES annual bitewing xrays. The office manager claims ADA requires it. The ADA DOESN'T require it. They recommend that if your teeth are not high risk, one set every two to three years is sufficient. Regardless of whether the insurance pays or the patient, requiring this annually seems, to me, to be a significant boost to their bottom line. The ADA also points out the need to minimize exposure to ionizing radiation. In my opinion, AD has lost their sensitivity to radiation exposure and the need keep it As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA).
