Shame on Teresa from Charlotte for writing a negative review for such a minor issue! Richardson Rescue has and continues to save the lives of many animals and why anyone would try to distract others from adopting and saving an animal is beyond me... Even if her adopted pet did get kennel cough prior to being adopted that certainly doesn't warrant a negative review. Animals get colds and viruses just like people do and it can't always be avoided especially when they are taking in strays and/or uncared for pets. When you adopt an animal you have a responsibility to care for your new pet and should expect to pay for what ever medical ailment and treatment he/she should need immediately following the adoption process. If you can't afford medical care for unexpected medical issues then you shouldn't be adopting a pet. Thank you Richardson Rescue for protecting animals and saving their lives!!! You are special people who are appreciated and valued for the service you provide!! read more

I applied online for a dog on 9/7. Their website states applications take approximately 48 hours to process. 9/12 rolls around and I had zero emails from the rescue, so I messaged them on facebook. The owner, Janet, said all emails had been sent out. She said to apply for a second time in case there was some glitch or typo. I applied for a second time on 9/12 around 12pm. Given it was a weekend, she said they would process it Monday or Tuesday. Tuesday, 9/15, I again have zero emails. I messaged her on facebook asking what the status was on my second application, and she said that all emails had been sent out. Again, I had zero emails (including in the spam folder) from them. She apologized over messenger and told me to call the next day between 10 and 3:30 and tell whoever answers the phone that Janet said to apply over the phone. Wednesday, 9/16, I called around 12:40 to no answer and left a voicemail. I didn't receive a single call back, so Thursday, 9/17, I called again around 1:30, to no answer. As of 9/19, he's now been taken off the website, I assume adopted. How can you run a rescue, begging for donations and adopters, yet don't answer people who are genuinely interested. What a scam. read more

We've got two pups from Richardson over the past eights years and they have been phenomenal. True "Ma and Pa" business and they are sweet as honey. I always see a lot of volunteers working to keep the rescue in good shape and clean. Finding our dogs was like finding family and their process is very good. It's a bit of a drive if you are coming from Charlotte, but it's worth it. These people care so much for these animals and we could see it the whole time we were there. read more

I adopted my dog in 2012. He was a puppy at the time and is still a treasured member of my family. The love and care the team at RR put into the pets they rescue was/is evident and the adoption process was thorough and smooth. They continue to educate the public about the importance of adoption, rather than shopping for pets. I have referred countless friends and would adopt again in a heartbeat! read more

I am giving five stars to Richardson Rescue because they helped us find a new family member and because they care. They care for the animals that are with them, the families that visit looking for a rescue animal, and the future of adoption so that it will work the best for the animals and their people. Furthermore, as a biologist and zoologist, I left with an extremely positive about their facilities and their adoption system. All animals I met were well and the staff knew everything about each animal. read more

I adopted my Murphy around 11 years ago now.( Formally know as Lucky Man) He has been the best boy ever. Laura helped me when I adopted him. I am so grateful for her and of course Murphy. I adopted a senior dog a year later. (Jasmine) she was super sweet and loving. She is in heaven now, but I would have definitely gotten her if I had it all to do over. They are the greatest place ever. read more

After our dog Lexi passed in December due to old age, we began looking for a new friend in late January/early February. I saw a post from Richardson Rescue of a beautiful but scared-looking mama and a large litter of puppies. Apparently the owner gave them all to Richardson Rescue after another dog on the property killed some of the puppies, only a few days old. I emailed and applied right away, telling them I was happy to wait but I hoped to be considered when the time was right. A month later, I got a call and I was able to visit the puppies and meet my new friend. I am thankful for Richardson Rescue's care for the pups and their mom, and their efforts to place all of their dogs in loving homes. read more

Richardson Rescue is awesome! We adopted our pup Sadie from RR in 2019 and she has added so much joy to our lives. Richardson places the well being of their fur babies first and foremost, and everything the do supports this focus. Consider donating- they have an Amazon wishlist, a donate button on their website and always welcome donations of food, cleaning supplies and requested items with open hearts! read more

Warning: This agency practices age discrimination as evidenced by their response to my friend's application to adopt: "Thank you for your interest in our rescue pet. We have a program, Senior for Seniors, that allows parents 65 and over to adopt pets 6 years and older." When given a chance to respond, Richardson Rescue said, "That is the correct procedure and we do not believe it to be age discrimination as our Orphans are going to their forever homes. Thank you for your input and, if we can help you in the future, let us know." Richardson Rescue made an unfair and illegal decision based solely on age. read more

I am so thankful to them for what they do to help homeless animals. My husband and myself just adopted our Stella this past weekend. I filled the application out online and was approved. We then let them know what animal we were interested in and set the appointment up to go see her. It was a seamless adoption. I was very amazed at just how clean it was. I can say these animals are well taken care of while in their care. read more

We found 3 puppies on our property that we couldn't care for. A friend referred Richardson Rescue and sure enough, they were very friendly and jumped to be able to help the puppies out! We have all the faith in the world that they will be taken care of during their stay there and will be helped along with finding a new forever home! read more

Warm, caring and kind hearted group of people helping animals in needs of human help to survive. I was very fortunate to have adapted a Chihuahua dog from this rescue. Very responsive with communication and making sure that I have enough information in the dog and to get to their location, was driving from Durham NC. Helped me so the dog feels comfortable leaving with me. I would highly recommend this rescue if you are considering adapting. read more

They state on the website adoptions based on donations and then when the papers are signed and the puppy is picked out, they tell you it will be $400-600 depending on the breed. These are strays and drop offs of mixed breed. Then after I adopted my dog, I found out that she didn't get wormed like she should have and she ended up in the hospital getting IV fluids, extra worming meds, and nausea meds because she was so sick and quit eating. They were disorganized and tried to blame it on the owner being "out of sorts". There were dogs running around in rooms with no supervision, dogs in kennels in the rain with no supervision, they also tried to "sell" me another large dog for another $300 since I already paid $400 for a puppy since they usually get $600 for a large breed dog. Puppies were in a small gate, covered in poop, only fed twice a day (830 and 230) her words. They had already adopted out their mom and the pups were only 6 weeks old. Only one worker besides the owner and her son for all those dogs. It was crowded and dirty. read more

very disappointed with Richardson Rescue. I was communicating with Janet about a dog, my application was in and with no explanation Leah emails me and says the dog was going somewhere else. I was heartbroken to have such a curt denial and for no explained reason. It seem one person doesn't know what the others are doing. I was never asked for a deposit nor was I informed anyone else even had interest in the dog. Days later and still no explanation, no follow up, no apology and not a peep about my application. They won't be getting any more donations from York County Newcomers. I'm sorry Leah ruined this for you, Janet. read more

We have been applying for every puppy we see here and we look every day or at least every other. We have been overlooked, flat out denied, the girl on the phone who called me ( my phone# was on the application) played dumb and asked where she got my number and who was I. Her # was on caller ID and I said "Well my husband and I have been trying 4 years to adopt a puppy from you after ours died from a ruptured spleen." Her reply was "OK, I am not awake yet. Now tell me what dog you were applying to adopt and I told her." She asked my last name and said she would look up the application and call me back. I then proceeded to say well you called me before 7 in the AM- where did you get my number with no reply. Our age was mentioned and I am not sure if on application but husband and I both said!! "WELL WE WERE FLAT OUT DENIED THAT PUP DUE TO OUR AGE.THAT IS DISCRIMINATION." When I tried to call her back, the pup was gone and she tried to sell me on an older dog due to our age. I do not care what kind of programs she started - we were flat out discriminated against by the owner of Richardson Rescue!! SuzannaNCarolina read more

We adopted two of our babies from them. I think they went above and beyond what I expected them to do. After we adopted the first one we decided she needed a playmate. We took her with us when we went to pick one out. They worked with her and the new pup for over an hour to get them to know each other and get used to each other. I donate to them monthly because I so love the work they do, it is just my small way of thanking them for my awesome babies, who are now 9 and 7 yrs old. When I want to get another one I will make that hour drive to them and get me some more, which if it was up to me I would have a whole herd but the husband reins me in. read more

From puppies to senior dogs, these animals are well taken care of. Some arrive in pitiful shape and are immediately taken to the vet. They have their cages/pens cleaned everyday. Their feed bowls and water buckets are washed everyday plus the are given toys and fresh blankets to lay on, They are let out of their cages everyday to run around and socialize with other dogs and the staff. This place truly loves their dogs and is very particular who can adopt them. They want to make sure every dog goes to a good home. This would be my go to place to adopt a fur baby. read more

I love Janet and the folks here. Sometimes a I get to help and rescue with them. We try and give back to this rescue because she has taken dogs that have been dumped and unloved. People seem to find me and luckily for the dogs she welcomes them with open arms. Janet and the staff here are not in it for the money or the glory. They are here for the soul purpose of helping the animals. They take so many that have been broken and severely abused and rehabilitate them. The money and donations go to the animals not one cent is blown on frivolous things. They live modestly like myself and put their hearts where every rescue should, into the dogs welfare. It's not what you drive or where you live. It's what you invest and sacrifice your life for a larger purpose that matters. Whatever consumes you and your time and makes your heart break is what matters at the end of the day. For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do. read more

Please go elsewhere. This society keeps trying to delete my review because it is not positive. Within days of getting my dog from there he developed kennel cough. The only thing I got from them was being told "he was well when he left here and you are 'crazy' if you think we are going to help out in any way." They showed zero concern for the dog and were just worried about money, money, money. Any idiot knows it takes germs a few days to "germinate" before the symptoms show. Being told "well he wasn't coughing when he left here--refer to your contract." He clearly developed it there which means other dogs there will have it as well. Please, if you want a healthy animal from a kind place, do not go here read more

My husband and I went there to visit the animals. We lost our beautiful "furry boy" a few months back and wanted to see if we were ready to open our hearts to another. We explained to them that we are in the process of moving and would not be ready to adopt at that time. But, we definitely wanted to once we were settled. We spent over 2 hours there visiting with all of the dogs and the one cat. Every animal in Richardson Rescue was well taken care of. They looked very healthy and happy enough. The only thing that could possibly make them any happier would be to have a "forever" home. I wanted to adopt every animal in there! The owner's son showed us around to meet all the animals and was extremely patient with us. He explained to us each animal's situation and temperament and we did not feel rushed. After finally leaving the place, I couldn't stop thinking about what a great job they were doing with all of the animals and I am very happy to know that a place like Richardson Rescue exists. When we are ready, we will definitely come back to Richardson Rescue and could possibly leave with more than one! read more
