I always see a lot of volunteers working to keep the rescue in good shape and clean. Finding our dogs was like finding family and their process is very good. It's a bit of a drive if you are coming from Charlotte, but it's worth it. These people care so much for these animals and we could see it the whole time we were there. read more

After our dog Lexi passed in December due to old age, we began looking for a new friend in late January/early February. I saw a post from Richardson Rescue of a beautiful but scared-looking mama and a large litter of puppies. Apparently the owner gave them all to Richardson Rescue after another dog on the property killed some of the puppies, only a few days old. I emailed and applied right away, telling them I was happy to wait but I hoped to be considered when the time was right. A month later, I got a call and I was able to visit the puppies and meet my new friend. We have a program, Senior for Seniors, that allows parents 65 and over to adopt pets 6 years and older." When given a chance to respond, Richardson Rescue said, "That is the correct procedure and we do not believe it to be age discrimination as our Orphans are going to their forever homes. They state on the website adoptions based on donations and then when the papers are signed and the puppy is picked out, they tell you it will be $400-600 depending on the breed. These are strays and drop offs of mixed breed. Then after I adopted my dog, I found out that she didn't get wormed like she should have and she ended up in the hospital getting IV fluids, extra worming meds, and nausea meds because she was so sick and quit eating. They were disorganized and tried to blame it on the owner being "out of sorts". There were dogs running around in rooms with no supervision, dogs in kennels in the rain with no supervision, they also tried to "sell" me another large dog for another $300 since I already paid $400 for a puppy since they usually get $600 for a large breed dog. Puppies were in a small gate, covered in poop, only fed twice a day (830 and 230) her words. They had already adopted out their mom and the pups were only 6 weeks old. Only one worker besides the owner and her son for all those dogs. It was crowded and dirty. read more

very disappointed with Richardson Rescue. I was communicating with Janet about a dog, my application was in and with no explanation Leah emails me and says the dog was going somewhere else. I was heartbroken to have such a curt denial and for no explained reason. It seem one person doesn't know what the others are doing. I was never asked for a deposit nor was I informed anyone else even had interest in the dog. Days later and still no explanation, no follow up, no apology and not a peep about my application. They won't be getting any more donations from York County Newcomers. I'm sorry Leah ruined this for you, Janet. read more

We have been applying for every puppy we see here and we look every day or at least every other. We have been overlooked, flat out denied, the girl on the phone who called me ( my phone# was on the application) played dumb and asked where she got my number and who was I. Her # was on caller ID and I said "Well my husband and I have been trying 4 years to adopt a puppy from you after ours died from a ruptured spleen." Her reply was "OK, I am not awake yet. Now tell me what dog you were applying to adopt and I told her." She asked my last name and said she would look up the application and call me back. I then proceeded to say well you called me before 7 in the AM- where did you get my number with no reply. Our age was mentioned and I am not sure if on application but husband and I both said!! "WELL WE WERE FLAT OUT DENIED THAT PUP DUE TO OUR AGE.THAT IS DISCRIMINATION." When I tried to call her back, the pup was gone and she tried to sell me on an older dog due to our age. We adopted two of our babies from them. I think they went above and beyond what I expected them to do. After we adopted the first one we decided she needed a playmate. We took her with us when we went to pick one out. They worked with her and the new pup for over an hour to get them to know each other and get used to each other. I donate to them monthly because I so love the work they do, it is just my small way of thanking them for my awesome babies, who are now 9 and 7 yrs old. When I want to get another one I will make that hour drive to them and get me some more, which if it was up to me I would have a whole herd but the husband reins me in. read more

From puppies to senior dogs, these animals are well taken care of. Some arrive in pitiful shape and are immediately taken to the vet. They have their cages/pens cleaned everyday. Their feed bowls and water buckets are washed everyday plus the are given toys and fresh blankets to lay on, They are let out of their cages everyday to run around and socialize with other dogs and the staff. This place truly loves their dogs and is very particular who can adopt them. They want to make sure every dog goes to a good home. This would be my go to place to adopt a fur baby. read more

I love Janet and the folks here. Sometimes a I get to help and rescue with them. We try and give back to this rescue because she has taken dogs that have been dumped and unloved. People seem to find me and luckily for the dogs she welcomes them with open arms. Janet and the staff here are not in it for the money or the glory. They are here for the soul purpose of helping the animals. They take so many that have been broken and severely abused and rehabilitate them. The money and donations go to the animals not one cent is blown on frivolous things. They live modestly like myself and put their hearts where every rescue should, into the dogs welfare. It's not what you drive or where you live. It's what you invest and sacrifice your life for a larger purpose that matters. Whatever consumes you and your time and makes your heart break is what matters at the end of the day. For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do. read more

Richardson Rescue has and continues to save the lives of many animals and why anyone would try to distract others from adopting and saving an animal is beyond me... Even if her adopted pet did get kennel cough prior to being adopted that certainly doesn't warrant a negative review. Animals get colds and viruses just like people do and it can't always be avoided especially when they are taking in strays and/or uncared for pets. When you adopt an animal you have a responsibility to care for your new pet and should expect to pay for what ever medical ailment and treatment he/she should need immediately following the adoption process. If you can't afford medical care for unexpected medical issues then you shouldn't be adopting a pet. Thank you Richardson Rescue for protecting animals and saving their lives!!! Please go elsewhere. This society keeps trying to delete my review because it is not positive. Within days of getting my dog from there he developed kennel cough. The only thing I got from them was being told "he was well when he left here and you are 'crazy' if you think we are going to help out in any way." They showed zero concern for the dog and were just worried about money, money, money. Any idiot knows it takes germs a few days to "germinate" before the symptoms show. Being told "well he wasn't coughing when he left here--refer to your contract." He clearly developed it there which means other dogs there will have it as well. My husband and I went there to visit the animals. We lost our beautiful "furry boy" a few months back and wanted to see if we were ready to open our hearts to another. We explained to them that we are in the process of moving and would not be ready to adopt at that time. But, we definitely wanted to once we were settled. We spent over 2 hours there visiting with all of the dogs and the one cat. Every animal in Richardson Rescue was well taken care of. They looked very healthy and happy enough. The only thing that could possibly make them any happier would be to have a "forever" home. I wanted to adopt every animal in there! The owner's son showed us around to meet all the animals and was extremely patient with us. He explained to us each animal's situation and temperament and we did not feel rushed. After finally leaving the place, I couldn't stop thinking about what a great job they were doing with all of the animals and I am very happy to know that a place like Richardson Rescue exists. When we are ready, we will definitely come back to Richardson Rescue and could possibly leave with more than one! read more
