He asked for photos of our equipment, and he quickly diagnosed what he thought was the issue. He told me that the office would call to set up an appointment. The office called me soon after, and we had an appointment set up for the next day (another company told me their first available appointment was in 10 days!). Jack showed up right at the scheduled time, and let us know that we needed a new pump. Two days later, he came back, installed the new pump, and had to do some other minor adjustments that he did not anticipate. He didn't charge us anything extra for these adjustments, and his price from the first moment never changed. He got the work done quickly, and was on his way. Everything is working great! Considering that fixing the leak was the reason I hired him in the first place, I found that price ridiculous. I gave Sam an opportunity to make the situation right; he declined. His defensive response to my concerns only reinforced my impression that he was more interested in the money and defending himself than resolving the problem for his customer. The difference with the new company I hired has been night and day. They were far more professional and actually fixed the leak for a fraction of what Sam quoted me. They also seemed genuinely interested in solving the problem rather than simply running up the bill. I rarely post reviews, but I felt this experience deserved an honest one.
