Not much to say. I needed a bowtie for a wedding, and honestly, I had completely forgotten about it. Luckily, I remembered just in time and was able to find Richards. This store is an elegant bi-level showroom that offers upscale fashions for both men and women, along with shoes and accessories. The person who assisted me was wonderful, friendly, attentive, and made the entire experience smooth and enjoyable. If "Made in Italy" are three of your favorite words, then have I got the place for you. Seriously, you hardly have to venture out of the city to Greenwich to find this kind of merchandise but if you do, you won't be disappointed. Richards of Greenwich is something of a mainstay of sartorial sophistication in a town, county and state better known to celebrate the basics found up the street at Brooks Brothers but hedge funders be damned, there's a place here for those who wear more than pink and green. Men on the main floor, women upstairs, the idea is here is to bring the best of Manhattan to the safety and security of Greenwich Avenue. Zegna, Kiton, Eton and all of those brands style conscious men find reassuring are here and a couple of dozen more that might not come straight to mind but whose heft price tags will jog your memory once you see them. Perhaps best of all - beyond all of that Italian splendor - is the complimentary coffee bar and cookies. I'd say 'free' but that seems so gauche, darling! Lots of sales folks on the main floor to take care of your every need and once you're ready to pay, don't even think about standing in line. They've got a bevy of women ready to swipe those platinum babies as soon as you're ready. Best of all, free parking for those of us with cars. If you are looking for fine clothing and exceptional personal assistant when shopping, look no further. This is the best it gets on Greenwich Ave and probably the surrounding area on the variety and quality of high end clothing under one roof. The prices are obviously outrageous, however they have great seasonal sales where prices can drop significantly. For some of the brands they have individual sections, like Zegna, which they carry a decent variety off. Always a pleasure walking into the store and for the folks who are concerned about finding street parking, they even have their own parking lot in the rear. read more

Richard's is a wonderful place to shop for amazing clothes and impeccable service. The tailor shop is simply unparalleled with many employees having been there for 20+ years. If you're looking for suits, you absolutely must get one here. It's also great for more men's casual wear including newer brands like Faherty and the upstairs is all for women's clothes and accessories. I love the bagels and coffee they have on Saturday's as well ( except not during COVID of course). read more

For menswear, Richards excels at selection - they have more and better than any other store, and can get you whatever you could possibly want if they don't have it in stock. Particularly for Italian brands like Zegna, Loro Piana, and Brunello Cucinelli. Far better than Saks, Neiman's, and the boutiques. But they don't excel at service (at least for relative peons like me). It couldn't be more obvious that they work on commission - it's positively Darwinian, in that only the strongest (i.e., richest) survive (get great service). For the rest of us, the attitude is reluctant, there's constant upselling, and you'll go it alone if you're shopping for lower priced items like *mere* $400 pants (a real interaction: me: "I'm looking for X brand in Y size." associate: "pants are in that corner" *points*). I spend, say, $5k a year there, but at Richard's that means you're relegated to the lower rungs of their customer hierarchy. And I get that. But they should do a better job concealing it. Today's thirtysomething scrubs are tomorrow's elderly uberconsumers. Speaking of money, they don't excel on price, either. Richard's thinks a sale is 10% off, while competitors chop off 25-40%. In this stratosphere, that's a difference of hundreds of dollars per item. So for the stuff you can find elsewhere (admittedly, not everything), you're better off doing so. Credit where credit's due: whenever I have needed repairs, they've done a fabulous job, always gratis. The store is beautiful, and it's nice not to worry about parking. The non-sales staff are mostly great, from the parking guy on up, and have been there forever. And the selection, again, is unsurpassed in the category of *serious Italian business clothes for serious business people*. That's why I still shop there. But I can't recommend it except with heavy caveats. read more

Proper cool store! If you enjoy dropping $500 on a polo shirt then you'll absolutely love it too. They have some cool clothes, and also some overpriced ugly items that someone might buy because of the price tag, rather than for fashion purposes. I say take someone who knows how to dress you well, if you don't know much about fashion. Even if you make a lot of money, and can afford expensive things, sometimes the most expensive things, are the ugliest. Maybe find a European that is walking around and ask them for advice. I'm pretty sure the staff here will say you look lovely in anything. Last word of advice, please don't buy khaki pants, unless you can pull them off with a chunky cardigan. I'm just saying if you're with your dad, or your unaware brother, steer them towards the greens greys. They have a good selection of those and for only $495 per pair, well, you may as well buy two! read more

I can not say enough about the wonderful service shown to our family during the time Richards has been open. The sales people are friendly, courteous and extremely helpful and make you feel like a long lost family member. Recently we have had 2 weddings in our family. Ginger, the sales representative, made sure the gowns we brought to the store were altered perfectly and with great care and we didn't even purchase them there! They were just trying to make our lives easier and our wedding celebrations both joyous events. The alterations department, particularly Fatima and Maria, have nimble fingers when it comes to getting even the most intricate details completed! God bless the Richards and Mitchell families! Richards is an excellent men's store, and they carry many nice brands and labels that I enjoy. The store itself is well laid-out and attractive. The selection of Charvet shirts and ties is wonderful. Richards has a nice array of clothing from Zegna, Armani, and Brioni as well. The shoe department is also extensive and carries everything I need. The service is always helpful and knowledgeable. Much of these items are only available at Bergdorf's or Saks in Manhattan, making Richards a great asset to Greenwich. The women's department upstairs is also quite nice. I had a return once for an Armani topcoat that did not fit properly. They were very helpful and willing to correct the matter right away. Selection is okay, not great. They have a few different styles for the designers they carry and can order most items. My problem is with the service. The sales staff is unfriendly and speak with a condescending tone. They profile you based on what you're wearing (very stupid) and even if you can get someone to help you, you can tell they're annoyed. Go to Saks.... so much friendlier and much more helpful. I went in 6 weeks ago to order custom dress shirts for my daughter's Bar Mitzvah. I dealt with salesman David Lynn who couldn't care less about dealing with me. He was too lazy to direct me to a changing room. Instead he sent me to the public bathroom. I gave him the drop dead date I needed it. He wrote down the wrong date. How far retail has fallen. Went to this store today for shoes. I was shocked at the quality of customer service. Beyond poor. Not one of the salespeople on the floor approached me with an offer of assistance. Personal, face-to-face customer care, is the last remaining reason for me to shop at a bricks-and-mortar store. Wow. I haven't been to Richard's in 15 years when, apparently, it was a more intimate surrounding. The service was absolutely superb. But then, I dropped $2500 in a half hour which is probably like $6000 today. I still have and wear some of the clothes I bought then because they're classics. Headed to Richard's for a new suit. I ended up getting a custom suit and shirt. I worked with Brian. He is great. I'm not a huge shopper and he made it very easy for me.
