I've had a severe bunion for years and I finally needed it fixed. Dr. Moy has done more bunion surgeries than anyone else in the world, so it was an easy choice. I went to another surgeon for a consult and they wanted to do work on other toes and put a ton of hardware in my foot. Dr. Moy said none of that was necessary. Just fix the problem and nothing more. While my recovery wasn't totally painless, it was very manageable. Dr. Moy's recovery process was the biggest selling point for me. You can walk right after surgery. Had I gone another direction I would have been in a cast for weeks unable to walk and in a ton of pain. As for the procedure itself, it was amazing. In the past I had a tough time with being put under anesthesia. But the twilight that Dr. Moy uses is unbelievable. I actually felt better coming out of the surgery than I did going in. No nausea and zero pain. Your foot is numb for the first couple days. My insurance would have covered the other surgeon I consulted 100%. Dr. Moy takes PPO so I paid out of pocket for everything. I honestly believe you get what you pay for. I only want to do this surgery once and have the best possible results and recovery. Worth every penny. Dr. Moy is semi-retired as he should be. I saw Dr. Moy for a $250.00 cash (since he does not bill insurance) consult by zoom for my bunions. I was quite astounded that Dr. Moy thought so highly of himself. He spent a majority of his time telling me how great he was and how many patients travel miles to see him. His cockiness became evident when he told how he is going to see a patient from Thailand just for a fun time. He then gets upset with me when I ask what that has to do with bunion surgery. The rest of his time was showing me how to navigate his website which is pretty self explanatory. I was so upset I almost wanted to end the zoom call but since I paid $250 I was hoping he could redeem himself. I should've realized that someone who thinks that highly of himself would never apologize. When I asked why he was raising his voice at me he stated he had a long day! Really? So did I. At any rate as a physician I will say it is IMPOSSIBLE that he is the ONLY podiatrist that does painless bunion surgery. I also think it is very possible to find competent podiatrists that also are not conceited but respect each patient and still do a great job. I did not agreed that to that surgery .Only i agreed to do the right foot bunion surgery. He just did it just to make extra money on his pocket When I asked Penny , why is $ 8,000.- the surgery , Before she told me $ 7,000.-) she said bigger bunion . I did my homework and found the perfect podiatrist to correct my bunion on my foot, . As an active person who works out, teaches zumba, plays pickelball, and takes line dancing classes it was important for me to find a physician with great skills to correct the issues i had with my foot. I am a registered nurse as well. Dr Richard Moy is the best podiatrist, surgeon you could find anywhere in the country. He is located in Lake Forrest. He communicated and explains things well, is a perfectionist and has mastered his art of performing painless bunionectomies. It seemed too good to be true but it was true . I had just a slight throb on my foot 3 days post op in the middle of the night which was quickly resolved with 2 Tylenols. Other than that i have never felt any pain I was walking the same day and drove few days later to my doctors appointment. I couldn't be happier with the results so far . As long as you follow his directions and do what is required as far as resting the surgical foot, it turns out positively well. His staff does a good job communicating. I had my left bunion removed 30 years ago by a podiatrist in Newport Beach, Ca. It was the worst pain I've ever experienced (hence me waiting 30 years to have the other removed)! Well, I'm sorry I waited 30 years to find Dr. Moy. He is absolutely amazing!!! I had my right bunionectomy on May 16, and I have had ZERO pain or discomfort!!! I haven't even taken a Tylenol! Probably the most arrogant, rude, inappropriate doctor I've ever encountered, and I've had a cascade of injuries that led me to him. I don't mind if a Dr isn't warm and fuzzy but this guy is on a whole different level, borderline abusive. It cost me $150 for a consultation where I was not only accused of not answering his questions well enough, his words were "all over the place" but also asked if I was single or had children which has NOTHING to do with my foot. Dr. Moy bragged excessively how he performs bunion surgery better than other Doctor. I had bunion surgery (wish I never did it). Years later I still cannot walk in heels (I could before), he made my big toe go outward instead of inward. This caused my whole foot to land wrong when I walk. My big toe no longer touches the ground and now I have a callus on the other side of my foot that is painful. My foot is wider due to my toes being pushed outward. My whole foot is "off". When I had my second surgery to fix the first, he had another Dr in room and tried to charge my insurance company for 2 doctors. They said "no", not a 2 doctor procedure. He seems to have a system to bill insurance as much as possible and made my foot much much worse. read more

So I don't know what happened to my review I posted over a year ago but whatever Yelp. Also, why people are complaining about a free consultation beats me. I went to his practice expecting to pay for his professional opinion and I did. If I expected opinions for free then I would have googled or yelped it. I came in with no insurance for a broken toe. Dr Moy was very knowledgeable and passionate about my Big toe healing properly unlike Emergencare . I wish I had come here first instead of going to the other place across the plaza. Dr Moy. Went above and beyond my expectations and he and his staff are professional, personable, courteous, extraordinary, and all have integrity. After searching for my post to update but it was not here, I saw some negative posts so here is my conclusion. I had the most positive experience with Dr. Moy possible. He did an outstanding job on my bunion surgery, and his staff is also top notch in every way. I can't imagine going to anyone else to get bunion or foot surgery. Dr. Moy is the real deal. I did a ton of research before I selected Dr. Moy for my bunion surgery, and was skeptical at his claims of "virtually pain-free" bunion surgery. I have had friends and family who had bunion surgery in the past (by other doctors) who had terrible experiences and excruciatingly painful and long recovery periods. But after doing my research - and reading dozens and dozens of the patient surveys on Dr. Moy's website (genius move on his part - total transparency), I felt comfortable enough to choose him for the surgery. I had literally no pain. It was incredible. I had to elevate my foot and ice it for several days, and I was careful to follow his strict instructions about after-care, but I was walking in a walking boot within days, and never missed a beat. I am having my second foot done this week and I can't wait. My left foot is so pretty now! And I can wear any shoe just over 6 weeks from surgery. I can't believe how easy the recovery has been. I wish I had found Dr. Moy sooner. Honestly, going to anyone else to get your bunion surgery is foolish. I have not heard of a single other doctor who does the surgery with the pain-free technique that Dr. Moy innovated. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my feet now. I just had 2 bunions removed from my right foot and Dr. Moy was fantastic! Bunion surgery could be horrid. They're sawing, drilling and screwing bones together but the only discomfort I felt was from my foot swelling and that was only for one day. I broke my foot and was debating surgery. I lost my balance two weeks later and ended up re-injuring it which lead me to the decision of having surgery. So now I have two screws in my foot. Dr. Moy was so great and took care of me and I was not nervous at all. My surgery went smoothly and I had no pain. I was only prescribed an anti inflammatory and antibiotic. I would highly recommend him if you are in need of any kind of foot surgery! Six months later I'm having no issues at all. Oh and his staff is amazingly sweet and helpful. read more

There are not enough stars on all of Yelp to convey the surgical skill of Dr Moy. His representations about "Painless Bunion Surgery" are 100% accurate. I found Dr Moy online after a thorough search for information about bunions and bunion surgery. The website showed before and after photos of all his patients, explained everything about the procedure, and the videos allowed me to watch an actual patient's progress from intake through surgery and on to full recovery. Dr Moy performed bunion surgery on my left foot in January 2015 and I experienced NO PAIN whatsoever. I was able to drive the next day, did not miss any work, and was back out ballroom dancing (in heels!) in just over 6 weeks. My foot is lovely - I wear everything from ballet flats to open sandals to crazy platform costume boots without discomfort or foot fatigue - and the incision scar is pretty much invisible. I was so happy with the results that I had the right foot bunion procedure performed in late June 2018, just short of 4 weeks ago, with the same excellent result. I would not allow any other foot surgeon to perform work on my feet!!! PS - office and medical staff are great too! read more

Update from review of 09/12/16. Please be cautious when agreeing to how much you're responsible for paying. Dr. Moy was "out of network" with Blue Shield. Penny Brock, who handles the insurance claims for Dr. Moy, told me that the most I would have to pay out of pocket inclusive of everything would be $5,500.00 regardless of what my insurance covered. I have been receiving invoices for surgical supplies, anesthesiologists, etc. threatening to send me to collections if I don't pay. Additionally, I had to have a third surgery with another podiatrist to correct my issue. After the first two surgeries with Dr. Moy, my condition went from limitus (limited movement) to rigidus (no movement). This caused me to incur even more expenses to remedy the pain in my foot. I cannot express how much I regret having gone to Dr. Moy. It's only caused me a great deal of pain and money. read more

There is no doubt in my mind that Dr. Moy is an extremely skilled and knowledgeable surgeon however after my consultation I will not be getting my surgery done here. I came into the consultation without receiving prior notice that it was a group consultation until I and several other patients were herded into a room to view a presentation and video. The presentation was presented by Dr. Moy and instead of providing information it came off as an advertising speal about his skill set and prerequisities as a surgeon. I noticed if anyone raised questions during the presentation or video Dr. Moy would ask them to wait until the end to ask them which was irritating because the point of a consultation is to get questions answered. Afterwards came the examinations and Dr. Moy called each patient into the room one by room to examine their case. As soon as I sat down in the patient chair Dr. Moy examined my feet and recited notes to his assistant who was writing them down. The exam took about 2 minutes and before I could ask any questions I was ushered out back into the waiting room. HE DID NOT ONCE LOOK ME IN THE EYE DURING THE ENTIRE EXAMINATION. SUMMARY: He's obviously a very skilled surgeon however the extremely impersonal and rushed office experience eliminated the trust I need to feel with my surgeon before I put my health in their hands. read more

Two orthopaedic surgeons told me they did not recommend surgically removing neuromas because they tend to come back. I went to Dr. Moy, who removed the neuroma successfully, plus did a bunionectomy and two hammertoes. NEVER had one iota of pain, drove myself to work the next day and from then on. Highly successful surgery, no pain --- ever. His surgical suite and PAWS system actually made the experience a pleasant one! My husband just had a bunionectomy and arthritic buildup removal on the top of his big toe by Dr. Moy and team, and has had the same, most pleasant experience I did. I went to this doctor to get a neuroma removed from my foot. After surgery my toe did not lay flat, the tendon was too tight. He had absolutely no sympathy. He wouldn't send me to physical therapy and he did not offer a solution. I was in more pain after the surgery then before I went in. I finally got a second opinion, they recommended therapy and I feel much better, but I will always have to tape my two middle toes together because of the result of my surgery. Go to a doctor that will take responsibility when things don't go well. I do not recommend this guy or his practice!! read more

This is a follow-up to my review dated 10/17/12. As stated previously, Dr. Moy's office made me pay a co-pay of $125.00 that I wasn't supposed to pay. It took a while to get an acceptable receipt from the office that I could submit for reimbursement. When they finally sent me one, I had to tweak the formatting so everything would fit on one page. But that isn't the real problem--just a symptom. Today I found out my insurance company rejected my claim, as Dr. Moy's office had billed them for the full amount, INCLUDING the co-pay I had already given them! It's no wonder their office is so lavish and plush if they are double dipping! Considering how cold, impersonal and difficult they have proven to be, I'm not very optimistic about getting my money back. They may be skilled but I find their practice questionable. read more

I had surgery about a month ago a little more complicated than just a bunion removal..ull see the pics. Not only is the staff great at the office but the surgery nurses and staff were also exceptional. Dr Moy was professional and always super nice. U know when u go to the doctors and u spend an hr there from which u mostly see the nurse and the doctor stays for 3.5 minutes? Not here. Before and after the surgery Dr Moy spent a tremendous amount of time with me, explaining the procedure and making sure im confortable. And after applying the bandages on my foot himself not his nurse making sure its done to perfection. Im 5 weeks post op and i feel good. I have no pain, however i had surgery on each toe, pins put in, tendons cut, and big toe has been fused. So as i mentioned its a bit more complicated than other reviews i have seen here but he did a great job. It looks good and feels good. Do NOT go see Dr. Moy or Dr. Lee! It has taken one entire year to get billing for the initial appointment finalized. Prior to my initial group appointment when Dr. Moy gave his presentation about how his bunion surgery is different, I gave his office my insurance info and they confirmed what I would have to pay for my co-pay and nothing else. At the initial appointment, I was not able to see Dr. Moy because my PPO insurance did not cover him, only his assistant, Dr. Lee. ***I have an outstanding PPO insurance, so I found it odd it was not accepted if I saw Dr. Moy*** After the x-rays (which I told would be covered by my insurance) and extremely quick consult with Dr. Lee, I left. Well, the office sent me a bill the next month and said my insurance would not pay for the appointment. I asked for the claim to be resubmitted because I have never had that happen, ever. The next month I got a bill saying the same thing. I called the office and asked why, then called my insurance company. The insurance company said they would look for the resubmitted claim from Dr. Boy's office. This went on for 1 year ~ every month I got a bill, in which I would call Dr. Moy's office explaining that it was a mistake and could they resubmit it. I even got on a 3-way call with their office and my insurance company twice to try and straighten this all out. Needless to say, the insurance finally paid the claim that Dr. Moy's office finally resubmitted, but I continued to get bills from Dr. Moy's office. I called one last time saying I did not ever have to pay more than my co-pay, that's insurance had paid, and asked why I was continuing to get bills. They said it was all okay. I insisted on a final bill being mailed to me showing a balance of $0 being due from me to them. I would not trust Dr. Moy's office to correctly bill my insurance if I did go in for my bunion surgery. Plus, other reviewers have stated what I also thought - rushed initial appointment and lack of time spent prior and after bunion surgery. I also asked for both bunions to be done together since I cannot take back-to-back time off from work and I have a young child to take care of. Dr. Moy refused and it made me feel like it was a money issue. Other podiatrists have said it's okay to get the bunions done at the same time. I would never recommend anyone to Dr. Moy's office and have actually told friends and family members about my extremely negative experience. read more

I suffered a displaced fracture of the fibula in a skiing mishap. Drs. Moy and Lee performed an open reduction and internal fixation (plate, screws). I was off ALL pain medication within 48 hours and back at work within a week. Dr. Moy is an exceptionally skilled surgeon backed by a crack team. Came in for an ingrown nail removal a couple of weeks ago. starting off the front desk was amazing scheduling me in as quickly as they did, Richard Moy went out of his way to fit the procedure in the same day I first arrived which I greatly appreciated. I've had this procedure done once before in the past with another doctor, in comparison to that Dr. Moy came across as extremely knowledgeable and professional, explaining the process and making me feel very comfortable. If I could not give a star I wouldn't. I have never been treated in such an uncaring way as I have with Dr. Moy. I have had three unsuccessful surgeries by Dr. Moy. All of which I paid out of pocket well over $11,000. My feet are FAR more painful then before the surgery. I've visited three orthopedists to gather information on how to correct my feet and eliminate the pain. All three gave me the same diagnosis. A diagnosis that Dr. Moy never offered. I have asked many times for a partial refund, so I can get the corrective surgery I need. Not only did Dr. Moy refuse any kind of refund he also refused to help in any way. His only offer was to provide orthotics. I will never recommend Dr. Moy again. I would suggest some serious shopping around before signing up with Dr. Moy. read more
