I shattered my kneecap in April. I went to a different surgeon who put three pins in it. After 5 months of physical therapy I could only bend it 67°. My physical therapist recommended I go to Dr Duggan because his patients were doing a lot better than I was. Dr Duggan performed a second surgery on December 11th where he took out the pins, scraped the scar tissue and forced my knee to bend under anesthesia. I went to my first physical therapy appointment the same day. That was less than 3 weeks ago. I can now bend my knee 110° and I'm still working on it. It has made a huge difference in my life. Thank goodness for 2nd opinions! After my 1st referral with a popular orthopedic surgeon for severe knee pain and meniscus tear was an absolute joke and disappointment, I was referred to Dr. Duggan. From the moment he walked into the room, he was very friendly, acknowledged my husband and I, actually LISTENED to what I had to say, examined my knee, and went over the imaging in detail. We determined that meniscus and cartilage repair was in my best interest. Good thing too! During surgery, it was determined the damage was worse than could be seen on the MRI...2 tears vs 1. I am now 2 weeks post surgery, have significantly less pain, am sleeping at least 7 hours a night (first time in over 5 months), and, after my post op appointment with Dr. Duggan, I can now slowly get back to my regular routines. My experience with Dr. Duggan was not good. I came in wearing a soft cast due to a fractured tibia that was diagnosed while I was out of state. I had x-rays & x-ray report that stated it was fractured) and the first thing he said was 'your x-rays look good and I don't see any fracture'. He ordered an MRI, however that showed I had a fracture and edema in my bone marrow. I have been in severe pain since I first injured it 8 weeks ago! He spent about 4 minutes with me at my follow up appointment and said 'as suspected, you have a fracture in your tibia' and you just need to give it some rest. He didn't seem very interested in helping, in fact he walked out of the exam room while I was asking him a question and kept talking to me from another room which I found very rude. I will be getting a second opinion because I don't trust him. His staff was nice, however, but that doesn't help with this extreme pain. read more

I saw Dr. Duggan for a knee injury I received while training Jiu Jitsu. I was so nervous because it was so unstable. Went to my PMD first and got an MRI but the PMD couldn't tell me what was really going on. So I made an appointment with Dr. Duggan and am so glad that I did. He sat down and took his time asking me how it happened and what my symptoms were. Here is my favorite part- he went over my MRI slide by slide and pointed out not only the parts that were injured but also the parts that looked good. He then worked out a plan with me , knowing I want to get back out on the mat, to start strengthening my leg. I met with Dr. Duggan 1.5 weeks before a golf trip to play Pebble Beach and Spyglass. Since 2012, I have had many periods of time with a lot of pain on the outside of both elbows. This makes it impossible to swing a golf club but I couldn't pass on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to play Pebble Beach. I visited Dr. Duggan for some help. Both he and his staff were very cordial, personable and pleasant to work with. He did an assessment and, after determining the issue, provided treatment. He gave me some stretching recommendations and told me to completely rest until warm-ups before our tee-time. When all was said and done, I played Spyglass on Sunday followed by Pebble Beach on Monday completely pain free. I also witnessed my brother get a hole-in-one on Pebble Beach's iconic hole #7 (videos are posted online). Most importantly, I was able to play Spyglass with my dad who's health is ailing. This will likely be the last time my dad gets to complete 18 holes of golf with his 4 boys. Dr. Duggan, thank you so much for helping me out in such a short period of time. Uber impressed. Went in "knowing" i need surgery but he pointed out some less invasive options making the point that "the surgery will always be there" if i need it, but you "can't go back." Liked him a lot. Loved that he wasn't happy to cut as the first option, even if my case could warrant it. The staff was very kind and professional as well. Convenient on-site X-ray. And, they were able to fit me in the same day, I think because i was in pain. Really happy with my choice. read more

Going off other Yelp reviews. Called around noon 6/20/19, needed to make an appointment, luckily someone cancelled the 1400hrs(2:00pm) slot. Every other clinic was 7-10 days out. Had everything ready for a quick check in, saw Dr. Duggan. We went over a few stretches, determined an X-ray would be a better start than an MRI. I went in because my knee twisted and has been sore, stiff with minimal swelling, and walk like a zombie for past 3 days. The lobby was nice, as it's part of a large medical building. Plenty of parking and the office is to the right of the main doors. A follow up will be done after I get back my X-rays. But so far I agree with the 4-5 star reviews 7-10-2019.. From 5 stars to 1. The 5 stars would be for the girls upfront who will do whatever it takes, The 1 star review is for Dr. Duggan who in NOT an MD. Pretty much after my Xrays came back and was not notified to come back in to discuss them, I was still in pain. Was told ibuprofen would be enough and to ice it. The End, no PT, no knee brace, no crutches.. nothing! I finally had enough as my Aflac agent said I was cleared for work. What??? I workin the oilfield in ND, not Door greater at Walmart. My job requires me to walk all day, bend down, climb, sit for long periods of time, and lift heavy ALL DAY/NIGHT, there is no such "office" position. Pretty much came down to, a liability issue because he doesn't want to lose his license. Since when does a "medical professional " worry about his well being, before mine? Dr.Duggan isn't looking out for my best interest, if I did go back to work and I did such an office job, and I slipped on oily surface, the snow/ice or climbing stairs and my knee goes from a stretched MCL to a Tear? Then what...? Oh and he changed his tune about the MRI, stating he was never against getting one, even though was told it would be a waste of $$$ when an X-ray will confirm it. Wow Just an FYI.. This is my issue with Dr.Duggan, if you do choose to see him, don't be surprised that like me making an appointment with another orthopedic for a second opinion. As it's been 3 weeks now and my knee is improving but only because I had to beg for PT and I bought my own knee brace. Best orthopedic surgeon around! I wanted to get my surgery before the end of 2019 due to insurance, the administrative staff were so on it. Anything I needed or any questions I had was answered immediately. I never waited when i came into the office. Everyone is really friendly. Dr. Duggan answered every question and concern I had in detail. He has terrific bedside manner. My surgery went fantastic and he called and checked on me after the procedure. I even scored a hole-in-one six months after surgery. He was very strict with the follow up care and it worked. This time he operated on my torn meniscus. I saw Dr Duggan yesterday thinking I was in need of a surgery to correct the osteoarthritis in my right knee. He reviewed some xrays that I brought and suggested a daily dose of Advil or a cortisone shot which would help for a four to six month time-frame. I opted for the shot which he said would take about 3-5 days to take effect. Three to five hours I could notice a significant improvement. The following morning I could walk down stairs at home without pain and with confidence that I wouldn't fall. He saved me the expense and inconvenience of surgery and resolved my problem. I went to Dr Duggan for a 2nd opinion on torn meniscus in my knee. The other ortho said surgery was the only option. Dr Duggan is a rare breed in doctors these days....he spent a good deal of time going over my MRI, asking questions and examining my knees. His manner put me immediately at ease and he was so easy to talk to. He told me that we could try other less invasive options if I didn't want to have surgery and we would just see how it goes. He drained fluid out of my knee and gave me a cortisone injection and a PT prescription. My knee is doing pretty good and no surgery is scheduled ....that was 2 months ago. I am an RN and deal with lots of doctors. Dr Duggan is seriously like no other surgeon/specialist I have ever seen. And the staff is friendly, professional and very helpful. read more

Dr. Duggan is also on staff at Kaiser where I saw him. He promptly diagnosed a torn meniscus which had been bothering me for several years. Primary care Drs. Initially thought bursitis, etc. He performed an arthroscopic procedure to correct it, and five weeks later I'm as good as new. Great follow up, very easy to understand and incredibly thorough. In 2014, Dr. Duggan diagnosed a torn rotator cuff in my right shoulder. The MRI showed It was completely torn off the bone. Surgery was scheduled and luckily, he was able to fit me in about a week after the diagnosis. The surgery went well. He fixed the problem and also performed a decompression on my shoulder. I was in a sling for 6 weeks and he provided the necessary stretching exercises I needed to do every day to promote healing and to prevent a frozen shoulder. We had about 5 follow up appointments and he met with me each time. During each appointment, he explained what to expect with the recovery and therapy as completely as possible plus answered all of my questions. My shoulder is now as good as new thanks to him. I just visited him for a problem with a very sore left shoulder that had been bothering me for about a month. Too much golf I guess. After a thorough examination, surgery is not required. He recommended physical therapy to correct the problem. I have been very happy with Dr. Duggan. He is extremely friendly, provides excellent advice and is very thorough. I really can't say enough about Dr Duggan. I have fractured my shoulder twice, have had frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tears and tendonitis over the last 8 years. EVERY single time I have gone to an Ortho Doctor they want to do surgery. It's like they don't care or have any use for me unless I am scheduling surgery. Doctor Duggan is not only an excellent surgeon, but aDoctor of Orthopedic Medicine. He looks at the whole picture before recommending surgery. After my last shoulder fracture, all my original doctor wanted to do was do surgery. Period. Even though the ER doctor told me it was the kind of break that heals on its own. The original doctor was terribly discouraging, giving me all sorts of worst case scenarios to try to persuade me to be operated on. Dr Duggan gave me encouragement to go ahead without the surgery and it turned out for the best. Recovered in record time with my bone healing perfectly.... something the original doctor said would never happen. So happy I chose Dr Duggan for my Ortho care!!! read more
