Dear Richard Lyons Nursery, What an absolute pleasure it is to come here! :) The nursery is beautiful and full of many exotic & native species of flowering and edible plants & trees. It's almost like being in a jungle or rain forest, except that it is right here in our backyard! The property is just stunning, I will say. There are just so many plants and trees everywhere, and everything always seems to be blooming. I've met Richard, himself, as well as a gentleman named Steve, who toured us around the nursery on our first visit. Both were a pleasure to meet and speak with, so I thank you for your hospitality and knowledge. Richard, you've been in the business a long time, and from our conversation, it seems you know everything about all of the plants you have. I was intrigued and thrilled to learn about your property and how you got started in your own backyard. Your nursery is located in the Redlands on a relatively large property. It is actually so big, that you usually will lend us a golf-cart so we can comfortably take our time looking at everything. The prices are pretty reasonable, compared to other places we frequent, and the quality of your plants is superb. We've only had 1 plant die of all the ones we've purchased, and I'm convinced it was our own fault. The best time to come seems to be during the week on an off day, however, we come on the weekends and have not experienced any issues. Sometimes you are packed on a Saturday, but that's understandable. So far, this seems to be my favorite nursery to enrich my garden from. So much variety and so much care from the owner and staff. How can anyone go wrong here?! I hope all the readers enjoy this place as much as my love and I do. Just spend some time here and you will see! Until next time, SabrinaAnna*

Spring's about to be sprung, and I decided to re-landscape my front yard island with hamelia patens, a.k.a The Firebush. This is a beautiful, yet low maintenance shrub which attracts bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies. The big box home improvement stores didn't have them, so I ended up at Richard Lyons Nursery (RLN). I like RLN because it's close to urban Miami and not way out in the Redland. They're small, and by virtue of that fact, are very customer oriented. When I first called them to see if they had firebush, it was on Thursday when RLN is closed. Yet Mr. Lyons answered the phone anyway to confirm availability. On arrival, we were greeted immediately by one of the nurserymen. He took my wife out on a golf cart and helped her pick 6 healthy specimens. He then carefully bagged each potted shrub and loaded them into our SUV. The firebushes were reasonably priced at $10/ea. and 1 week later are doing very well in my Island. The only negative aspects of RLN are there is very little parking and if you want to walk the grounds to survey their extensive array of exotic foliage you need to watch your step as the sprinklers turn the dirt paths to mud. Despite these inconveniences, and a slightly higher price than the big boxes, RLN is worth going to for their customer service, as well as the variety, and quality, of their foliage.

    This sad tree was $90.

Beautiful almost white pea sized gravel and gorgeous plants and plantings everywhere (in&out). There's a false front (western style of the 1800's with a drugstore front on the left and a mercantile on the right, done in galvanized metal. Then you walk in and find yourself in a tremendous space offering a corridor of potted gardens leading you along to three spaces, one on the right for dining suited with picnic tables sporting tablecloths, enough seating for 85+. There's also a smoothie bar featuring blender drinks and nonalcoholic beers. At the center of this space, straight ahead is a mechanical bull upon a platform, with inflated walls and floor. There's someone to run that. There's another 2 areas to the left with several round tables for 20-40 others. Then there's the stuff for kids and more kids. Every kind of game for 2-12 yo kids, from little Jenga blocks, small & big trucks & excavators, playgrounds lg and sm, just all kinds of stuff everywhere, along with little picnic tables and small tables & chairs. Finally, at the back of the property are the animals. By the way the food is fantastic and not expensive and there's a menu for dogs too! Almost forgot, pups are welcome. I loved that they had such a great Green Nursery vibe, they do sell the plants, delicious food for sale and they have animals to go View and hang out with in the back. I got the pleasure of having a passion fruit and mango smoothie reminded me of one I had in Thailand which is a big deal cuz I have yet to have found something similar. I got my breakfast and Cuban food craving fix taking care of there. The coffee both hot and ice were absolutely delicious and satisfying. The only thing I can say is when you drive in parking seems to be very bleak. But there's plenty of parking behind in a parking lot. Overall I would give this please a 5 out of 5 stars everything from Food Service ambiance and the plants were absolutely stunning. Next time I go visit Miami that will definitely have to be a trip on my agenda.

The staff were helpful but you knew they really didn't want to deal with somebone buying one or two items. We took a brief tour on the golf cart and I picked out a Sweetheart Lychee and a Barbados Cherry. Each time I was going to buy, I was pointed to the ugly ducklings, not the nicer trees that were shown at first. Determined to purchase something after driving an hour and wanting to support them, I bought the trees anyway. I've done enough gardening to know when a nursery is trying to sell you their 2nd rate stock The staff member carefully loaded the trees into my car. The office was small but efficient. My friend tried to make small talk. I was looking to leave. I paid in cash and we were on our way. In the future, I would buy from other nurseries that are willing to sell me better quality product.
