After reading great reviews, I decided to pay Richard Lyons Nursery a visit and was glad I did. The property is a little tricky to find and from the street doesn't look that big, but once you enter, you will see the outside looks are deceiving. This place is packed with all sorts of ornamentals, fruit trees and other types of plants. After choosing several plants and having the sales ticket written up, I was very pleasantly surprised to see that it was only $40. Had I gone to another place in Kendall or a major retailer, I would have paid much more. I will definitely be back for more.

We first discovered Lyons in our search for rare Atala butterflies to augment the population at our house... the folks at Montgomery botanical center had recently brought a population of Atala caterpillars to feed on Lyons sizable coontie selection. We were lucky to get a coontie with freshly laid eggs... that was in late September, and they emerged from their cocoons today (late October). They have a wonderful selection of butterfly larval and nectar plants. They have both local and exotic plants also including bamboo, heliconia, and more. When you arrive, park a short way in... a siren will announce your presence, and you'll soon be met by a guide in a golf cart. We've been four times so far, and each time we go we've discovered a new area, and new plants. As you wander around, make sure you look at the amazing mature specimens that dot the property.... such an amazing variety... it rivals a botanical garden!

You'll always get excellent advice here for whatever your landscaping needs! Whatever vehicle we drive down in ends up being filled to the brim with plants. On our last visit we picked up native coontie, corky stem passion vine, milkweed, and several flowering natives... oh, and a beautiful croton. My wife also gets large orders of plants from here for her school, and over the years plants and trees from here have transformed her campus into an oasis with birds and butterflies and wonderful shady spots. Casey's Corner is well worth the drive. They participate in a lot of regional events, so always give them a call before you go to make certain they're on site!

We took a brief tour on the golf cart and I picked out a Sweetheart Lychee and a Barbados Cherry. Each time I was going to buy, I was pointed to the ugly ducklings, not the nicer trees that were shown at first. Determined to purchase something after driving an hour and wanting to support them, I bought the trees anyway. I've done enough gardening to know when a nursery is trying to sell you their 2nd rate stock The staff member carefully loaded the trees into my car. The office was small but efficient. My friend tried to make small talk. I was looking to leave. I paid in cash and we were on our way. In the future, I would buy from other nurseries that are willing to sell me better quality product. Members of my family have a large business up north that buys wholesale plants and trees from Homestead. I guess you have to be in the business.

We have ordered and purchased a number of grafted trees from other sellers and have never had this issue. We believe they are selling these trees way to early just to make a sale. We will definitely never be wasting our money again with Lara farms in Miami.

There is a small trailer where you can talk to people. All of the plants have been high quality, the prices have been right, and the people have been good to deal with. it is definitely a place where I will come when I need to visit a nursery or find some tropical plants and trees. I am not sure if they deliver because I have always picked up my stuff from the location. If a nice sized, clean nursery with lots of options and great prices is the kind of places you are looking for, then this nursery is the jam for you.
