I am very uncomfortable in medical situations and asked to be sedated or numbed as much as possible. I was given a iv relaxant that made me drowsy but the surgery area was not numbed enough. I felt nearly everything going on during the procedure. When it came time to "clamp" the area I nearly lept off the table due to the pain. During the procedure Dr. jacomides talked the entire time. He was belitting his staff, complaining about the actual surgery he was doing, and at some point threw gloves across the room at his nurse. After the procedure I was swollen and bruised and this prompted me to call my friend who had just had a vasectomy recently. He went to a different doctor at different clinic and told me that he felt nothing during the procedure and had no swelling or brusing. Overall I feel Dr.Jacomides behavior towards his staff was unprofessional and his skill at performing the procedure was mediocre at best. I would not recommend him to do your vasectomy.

I have rated it 1 star from my particular experience, but I'm sure others could have better experiences and so it shouldn't reflect all cases. I have moderate anxiety issues (nothing obvious or would be detected with blood pressure/heartrate reading). This was my first surgery being fully conscious and without any sort of relaxant, they just injected at the site itself for pain. I strongly advise men with any sort of anxiety to make sure your vasectomy will offer something beyond just the numbing injection. Dr. Jacomides was way too open about what was happening in his head, particularly the indecision he was having about whether to return back to the left side after I had a more intense "kick in the balls" grunt for the right side (he noted both sides should've felt like that). It almost felt like he was asking for my opinion, which makes some sense since it's not a comfortable procedure, but I wish I wasn't included in the decision making. He noted that he didn't want to have to be doing this again at a later date, which he was inferring that I wouldn't want it either, but he worded it more like it would've been an inconvenience to him. Then later after he did repeat doing the other side, he vocalized a bit of how he wasn't sure if he made the right decision to go back. Also to note for some who might not like dirty jokes, Dr. Jacomides talked over the first part of the surgery sharing a dirty joke that had a brief mention of religion as part of it. I tried to laugh along with it but I was too anxious from the strange sensations intermixed with pain to pay attention. The joke wasn't particularly offensive to me and I think his intention was to have my mind off of the surgery, but for me I would've much preferred something like yoga meditation music on a cheap bluetooth speaker to help ease my mind. The stress had caused me to have acid reflux towards the end, so he did the stitches as quickly as he could. When done, he quickly left noting I looked white as a sheet or something to that effect. That was the last I heard from him, so I just talked with the assistant before going on my way. It's been almost a month since. I spent a few days in bed to help with the recovery (I strongly advise taking off of work for a few days). I was able to tolerate the small bits of pain with minimum medicine except for a few nights later I was in severe pain that wasn't being helped much with aspirin and ibuprofen. Thankfully it eased itself away over the following day. Hopefully for the follow up in 3 months the procedure will have been a success just with the very uncomfortable experience.

I have never had staff treat me so well and so kindly from the time we entered the door to the outpatient surgical clinic until we left. This review's rating is solely about the billing practices at St David's. The only truly negative, and frankly completely unacceptable, part of my experience has been the St. David's billing department. It is atrocious. I would rate it 0/5 stars and strongly advise anyone to avoid St. David's unless they have absolutely no alternative solely for the billing experience and absolute nightmare that results after your procedure. This is despite the completely excellent surgical staff, nurses, etc., plus my amazing OB/GYN and his team. For the level of care and expertise of the staff, again, EXCELLENT. We were required to pay $900 upfront, yet we have since received at least three additional bills--each one different, each one increasing the total cost to almost double the original amount. The billing team also is very sketchy about requiring this $900 upfront - they claim they won't intake you AT ALL unless you pay for your surgery ahead of time. The bills don't even look like they're from the same organization: different paper, different formatting, and even different account numbers. When we call the surgical center to verify whether these bills are legitimate, the billing staff can't provide answers. They can't explain the charges, they hesitate to provide itemized statements, and they seem completely unaware of why multiple bills are being issued. It is infuriating and exhausting, especially for someone recovering from a fertility-related procedure. Our healthcare system is broken, and St. David's billing department exemplifies that failure. Considering my surgery went exactly as planned, there is absolutely no reason we should have received anything beyond the original bill. This process has been a nightmare, and no patient should have to deal with this.

After a few more questions some squeezing, bending and pushing, voila!!!!... lateral epicondylitis, aka tennis elbow. Wait!!!!....Wha?!?!? I don't even play tennis. After conducting some research, studies show that trauma such as direct blows to the epicondyle (femur), a sudden forceful pull, or forceful extension cause more than half of these injuries. It has also been known that incorrectly playing tennis may cause early stages of tennis elbow as shock is received when mishitting the ball. Yeah, couldn't say what exactly caused this injury....have ya read my activity reviews?!?!?! Anyway, he gave me two options, one, a brace for several weeks and possibly physical therapy, or two, a shot of, I cut him off as I was not interested in a shot of anything, except, perhaps a tasty beverage. I digress. Not wanting to leave just yet, as I like to get my co-pays worth in, I brought up another issue I've been having. 'Come on, let's look at the x-rays', he says. Badabing badaboom, another specialist misdiagnosed me. Dr. Z wrote down some options to help with the other aliment and I was on my way. Do you cringe when you think about the need to see a gynecologist? Even worse, can you imagine…read morehaving to undergo gynecological surgical procedures? When faced with the need to take care of my gynecology needs, I did the old fashioned thing, that is, I asked ladies I know who they would suggest. Amazingly, in one day, two friends both recommended Dr. Jonathan Buten. Both had very impressive recommendations. When I went to my own primary care physician, I was very happy to learn that Dr. Buten was also one of her recommended physicians. A little over 8 months later, I've been through a great deal of events with Dr. Buten, ranging from basic checkup, diagnostic testing, to most recently, major surgery and I feel it is important to place my artifact into this digital format to share with others who face similar daunting decisions. Dr. Buten is personable, and interacted with me in a warm and caring manner. He is very thorough in every aspect of his work. He used technology to show me what was going on with my "innards" and explained the options. He listened to my questions, gave thoughtful answers, and I always felt that we were a team working towards my best outcome. Additionally, the staff is helpful and friendly. Dr. Buten was very specific in explaining risk factors, citing research, and statisics to allow me to make a very informed decision. The surgery was virtually painless (laparascopic hysterectomy and oophrectomy). I was mildly sore for a day, back to mild exercise in 2 days, and full activity in 5 days. Dr. Buten is very personable, sharing casual personal conversation, and he respected my opinions and concerns. He definitely met my high standards when I half-joked that he could come release me from the hospital before he went to his office, rather than waiting until noon...and he did!

I went and was charged $300 as a "deposit" but I never saw claims filed to insurance nor did I get a refund from said deposit. Let's not forget to mention almost daily ultrasounds. Maybe that's where the $300 went to? in addition to the hour long waits for a 5 minute visit. All this while trying to keep my job and explain why I needed to see the dr almost daily. I went with the intention of getting lab work run and starting with pills (clomid or femara) as my obgyn didnt do this part. I was never allowed to do this as I was told It wouldnt work. (how do we know that?) Was sent to get an hsg without a negative pregnancy test in hand. (couldnt possibly be the first time they've sent someone to the ARA but they wouldnt help me so that was a waste of PTO, time and getting stuck in 5 oclock traffic unnecessarily. I had to drive bk to their clinic, get a blood draw so I could try again on yet another day. ) Not only was I not able to get a script for pills, I was told i should start with IVF. I absolutely refused and somehow this compromise was an IUI. What I should have done was walk out. But i let this dr talk me into an iui. $3300 later and who knows how many trips to the specialty pharmacy 30 miles away, I had a failed iui and a data breach bc someone left a laptop in their car. The final straw was being told my next step would be ivf or ovarian drilling. nope. nope. nope. I'm out. I ended up putting a pin in all this and ended up getting pregnant naturally about a year after I stopped going to this office but I still get chills everytime I see the exit off mopac. In summation, i will say he was super aggressive and seemed like he wanted everyone to get pregnant... but at what cost? I also want to mention I got a shot of vitamins (allegedly) that was above my hip that really aggravated my sciatic nerve... just be cautious. I thought I had a blood clot at first, but being that I am a runner I had it checked out to rule out any bigger problems. I ended up going to a different infertility dr who has now since retired but I wish I had gone to him first. If you do go here, I hope you are treated better than I was.

I'm sharing this because I wish someone had warned me…read more I left this practice earlier than planned because I lost trust in both the physician's medical judgment and the overall management of my care. Over multiple encounters during IVF and early pregnancy bleeding, I experienced: Mocking and dismissive responses to legitimate medical questions, ultimatums regarding procedures rather than collaborative discussions, refusal for HCG labs after bleeding episodes after multiple miscarriages, being left physically exposed during an exam while the hallway door was open, and financial comments made while I was visibly sobbing I left multiple conversations with this physician sobbing, developed anxiety before interactions, and felt afraid to ask questions openly. A staff member privately acknowledged that similar concerns had occurred before, which influenced my decision to transfer care early. After switching to my OB, routine early pregnancy testing immediately identified and treated a UTI that had not been addressed by AFI. In the context of IVF and prior losses, discovering that something so basic required attention during a sensitive time was deeply concerning. I also experienced troubling issues with lab billing an explanations were inconsistent and unclear. Given the already significant cost of fertility treatment, this lack of transparency further damaged my confidence. The cumulative experience felt emotionally abusive to me. I did not feel safe, respected, medically secure, or financially protected under this physician's care. Fertility treatment is one of the most vulnerable experiences a woman can go through. Women deserve better, and I would not recommend AFI based on my experience.
