Dear Southwest,…read more Hello. I went for a consultation with Dr. Estemalik in July 2020. He examined my gums and stated that I have gum recession on 14 teeth, which would require gum grafting. I received the 1st gum graft for 4 teeth in Nov 2020. Dr. Estemalik and the office were calm, nice, and explained many things to me. I was treated well and was glad to be in the care of Southwest. I paid the co-pay. Insurance covered the rest. I asked the office about warranty; they stated that if the graft falls apart in under a year and if the patient properly follows post-op guidelines, then the office would provide a replacement graft at no charge. I felt confident and comfortable working with them. I don't know how, but part of the graft collapsed in less than 2 months. I followed the guidelines well - no hard foods, used the antibiotic, avoided sugary drinks, did not chew on the surgical site. I believe Dr. Estemalik and the office did their best to provide a good graft; they were professional, punctual, and understanding. In Jan 2021, Dr. Estemalik examined and stated that a replacement graft would be required; he diagnosed the 1st gum graft as "collapsing." I received a replacement (2nd) graft in March 2021. This graft integrated fully and I am pleased with that. Thank you. However, I was charged for it (over $2000) and paid out-of-pocket. I was confused. I thought they said that a replacement graft would be covered? I called them, explained the situation, and requested a refund; they refused. I still had more teeth that required gum grafting, but I felt distrustful about returning to the office. How can I continue working with them when they choose to not uphold their integrity? I called Southwest again and expressed my concern. I asked to speak directly to Dr. Estemalik; he chose not to. The front desk said "the office would never have covered a replacement graft at no cost" and "Dr. Estemalik does not remember agreeing to this." I asked for a copy of their 2020 warranty, but did not receive it. I asked for a written explanation of why the office refuses to provide a refund; never received it. Although I have called and emailed them multiple times over the course of 5 years, we regretfully cannot come to an understanding. They did treat me kindly, and helped greatly with my gum recession, to which I say thank you. I am disappointed that they refuse to fulfill their principle of integrity and provide a refund. I, Dr. Howard Friedman MD regret having to write this, but my wife, Ibojka Friedman's experience at Sher Smiles was profoundly disappointing--particularly because it wasn't the dental care itself that left a bad taste, but the deceptive and unethical billing practices. Dr. Deena Sher evaluated what was clearly a minor, benign mouth lesion. The initial consultation was nearly $200, which we expected. What we did not expect was an additional $600 fee to "prepare" the lesion for outside pathology review--on top of whatever the external lab charged (which was not included in their estimate). That brought a simple, benign oral cyst to a cost of over $1,000, despite our dental insurance. The most troubling issue is that Sher Smiles chose not to submit the pathology charges to our insurance. Why? Because it didn't benefit their bottom line--just ours. That decision was made without our input or consent. When you're facing a potential health issue, you want transparency and trust. What we got instead was a surprise bill and a sense that profit took precedence over patient care. A benign diagnosis came at a premium price--and Sher Smiles made sure we bore the full burden. That's not just disappointing. It's unethical. We would not recommend this office to anyone seeking honest, compassionate care. Buyer beware.

From the minute I called to when I showed up to my appointment and left, they were very nice. I don't think I've had customer service like that in a while. Lauren was my dental hygienist and she was very sweet. She made me feel comfortable from the start and did one of the best cleanings I think I've ever had. I believe I told my husband about 10 times now on how good she was. The dentist was just as nice as his staff. I don't think I have ever talked so good about a place before.
