Since I have been goi to her practice. She laid out a plan, we stuck to it, and after some minor items to repair, I have had ZERO issues with my teeth and no cavities. I just went to her office post-COVID and the office was clean and spotless on a whole new level. The staff was professional and followed all protocols. I have not been to the dentist in a long time, and I am experiencing TMJ from the amount of stress in my life. He is so sweet, kind hearted, and a truly caring and generous man. I got a mouth guard, and he sent it back and worked on it until it was absolutely perfect for my mouth. Also while he was fitting me for it, I mentioned how self conscious I have been for years of one of my two front teeth being longer than the other. He fixed it on the spot for me. People- I am the individual who had to take 10mg Valium to simply get me into the car to go to my old dentist. Rick made me feel safe, which speaks volumes. Oh, and his wife is a yoga zen master who saves lives of people with personal struggles. That's one powerful couple, that gives a lot to this community. GO SEE HIM!

I don't do reviews very often, but I felt the need to do so today in the hopes of helping others…read moreavoid the expensive mistake that I made. My review is based on an unsatisfactory return on investment (of time and money) and resolution to the dental problem I initially made contact with Dr. Copeland for. The staff is very professional, nice and caring. The office is warm, homey and comfortable. It was suggested that I send my xrays and CT scan from my prior dentist. So, I emailed the xrays and hand carried the CT scan on a disk since it was too large to email. In early May 2026, I scheduled an appointment for pain and sensitivity I was having near teeth #3 and #4. I thought I cracked a tooth. At my consultation ($295) I was first told that Dr. Copeland charges $150 to look at my CT scan. Had I known that, I wouldn't have gone to the trouble to get mine for her review. Dr. Copeland informed me that she is not a one tooth Dr. and considers the health of the whole body for her treatment plans. She recommended that I begin with a comprehensive exam ($900+) so she could see everything going on in order to create the best treatment plan for me. According to their website, the comp exam was to include a complimentary tooth cleaning. She noted that I had 6 root canal teeth and they were essentially cadavers sitting in my mouth and should come out. In late May I had my comprehensive exam where many things were performed:D3 test, photos, xrays, CT scan, measurements, consultation, etc. I inquired about the complimentary teeth cleaning and right away Dr. Copeland said, "We don't do that! We could never accommodate that in the scheduling in this small office." (or words to that effect). I shared that I saw it on their website. She still didn't believe me. She then asked her assistant to look for it and remove it if it was there. I helped the assistant locate it, and she then deleted it from the site, along with other information on the comp exam. Dr. Copeland didn't apologize for her error, or offer me a small credit for her error. During the comp exam Dr. Copeland directed me to get a full blood panel due to some curious things she noticed in my mouth. She didn't want to proceed with treatments until she knew what was going on - I appreciated that. (Note: To this day, Dr. Copeland has not given me her assessment of the blood test results. Her assistant said my blood "looks great". But the test results showed several areas in the not good ranges). At the conclusion of the comp exam, my understanding was that Dr. Copeland was going to review all of the results from my exam, provide me her summary of the exam as well as a recommended treatment plan. The only results I received after spending roughly $1250 was an email with an aggressive, 3 phase treatment plan which required the extraction of 4 teeth (18, 19, 30, 31) + implants and crowns, and additional work on 12, 14. The treatment would take 1+ years to complete the work on the 6 teeth at a cost of $46,000. I never received a summary or report of all the things done during the comp exam. I replied to the email with a list of questions I had to prepare for the procedures, and Dr. Copeland said she could do a complimentary 15 minute zoom call with me to answer questions, but if I exceeded 15 minutes she would need to charge me. I was flabbergasted to say the least. I asked if we could save time and money and she could answer my questions via email. Instead, she allowed her assistant to call me and answer some of my questions. It was then that it hit me that in her treatment plan, Dr. Copeland never addressed the problem (tooth/teeth?) that I initially went in for (3,4). I spent approximately $1,250 and she completely ignored addressing the root of my pain and discomfort that brought me to her. I felt it necessary to get a 2nd and 3rd opinion. The results from both were that the recommended treatment plan was aggressive and unnecessary. Only one tooth needed to be extracted due to infection. The other root canal teeth can be retreated (Dr. Copeland told me she does everything possible to save a tooth, but right away wanted to extract 4 of mine because doesn't believe in retreating root canal teeth). The alternative treatment plans were less aggressive and far less costly. It makes me very sad that a seemingly nice and caring person could be so motivated by money to not do the right thing for her patients. I'd like those in need of a dentist, oral surgeon or endodontist to know that you have many other suitable options who extend discounts for those not using insurance (Copeland does not extend discounts). I called just to confirm and sure enough, she had yet again forgotten to mark down my appointment. I told her I was really unhappy with that and she apparently lied to the dentist and said I was verbally abusive. I was not. I was FIRM. AFter that, Dr Copeland would not let me come back. Too bad she believed her lying employee. (This was a couple years ago, so maybe the staff has changed.)

A good friend of mine recommended Dr. Layus and although it's a bit more of a drive for me, I only usually visit the dentist twice a year so no biggie. Let me just say, I am so very very glad I switched! Dr. Layus is such a nice guy, and he made me feel very comfortable. I felt like he was honest and didn't try to upsell me the whole time (one of the reasons I left my previous dentist). He offers Invisalign, which I am very excited about because I've been considering doing it for a couple years now. My old dentist did not do Invisalign, so that's a huge plus. I am returning in a couple weeks to do a scan for Invisalign and will hopefully be able to get started soon after! The hygienist, Tatiana, was great and very knowledgeable about airway dentistry, which was another huge plus as I have recently been learning quite a bit about airway health, and she was able to give me some really wonderful insight. The woman at the front desk, Anayi (sorry if I got the spelling wrong) was really sweet and easy to work with. Overall I loved my experience here. My one and ONLY very small complaint is just that the waiting room is really small. But it's an older building, and they have made it look really nice and updated inside. The bathroom was clean (really important to me), and the whole office was decorated cute with beach and surf photos. I forgot to grab photos at my first visit, but I will be going back in a couple weeks to do my Invisalign scan and will update my review with photos then!

Not only was Cecilia incredibly unprofessional and rude when I was a client here, advocating for myself; Dr. Layus was pushing his political rhetoric my entire 2 appts. On top of them botching my dental work that had to be fixed because they botched it the first time, and also they never completed a crown install because Cecilia didn't like that I stick up for myself or won't let them be disrespectful to their clientele, so they refused to work on me any further. Which has led me to THOUSANDS of corrective dental work and oral surgery next week. AVOID THIS DENTIST OFFICE. Entire lack of professionalism and genuine care across the board.

The office staff are all very friendly and accommodating. I walked in without pain, walked out in excruciating pain. I haven't been the same ever since…read more First off I visited this office because I had irritation on my top left quadrant. Dr. Meier reccomended a deep cleaning or a root plaining. I agreed to have the treatment done. After the treatment the irritation was gone. I felt really good about this office. Note that there were no cavities detected. Upon my return a few months later for a routine cleaning, I was treated by a dental hygienist that was real rough on me. In fact she scraped my teeth so hard that I knew something was wrong. I've had many routine cleanings done in my life and non have been this painful. At the very endof the treatment she seemed to fumble her cleaning tool the wrong way and I screamed in pain. They did an Xray and it now appears that I have a cavity exactly where she fumbled her tool. As I had stated before, I walked in feeling fine, and walked out in serious pain that hasn't subsided but has only intensified ever since. Additionally not only do I have pain in the affected area, but I have gained pain in my lower jaw where I've never experienced pain before in my life. And this pain began after my last visit with the dental hygienist at this office. To add insult to injury, after I made my complaint about my pain, this office had the audacity to send me a "Dear John" letter firing me as a patient and refusing to rectify the issue. Also note: This office follows their patients on Instagram publicy which seems a bit intrusive. I don't want my Dentist knowing about my personal life, opinions, friends, religious and or political beliefs etc, because this knowledge can negatively affect the Doctor/Patient relationship and the quality of care received.
