The staff was refreshingly straight forward about sharing their opinions about dentistry. They do not try to sell you on things you don't really need. It's obvious that the front desk woman - Diane - has been in the dental loop for YEARS. Really, I mainly go because of her. She speaks fluent "insurance" and uses an assertive tone with them. So, just bring your card and she handles EVERYTHING. Love it. Dr. Davis is super nice. It's as if he takes a shot of espresso every hour; that kind of chipper personality. I think he genuinely enjoys being a dentist. He's gentle and doesn't flinch when requesting a second shot of numbing potion. The office itself is just that - an office. Besides computer xrays, there's nothing too high tech about it (which is rare for Santa Barbara - land of the whitest teeth on earth). And yes, you can pick up a free toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss on your way out. The only con is limited hours/days for a teeth cleaning. I like random Friday morning appointments and not spending my Tuesday lunch hour in a chair but Diane and Dr. Davis make up for this inconvenience! read more

Dr. Davis goes above and beyond. I brought my 101 year old mother in to try and get her dentures adjusted. I had brought her to two previous places without much success. Dr. Davis spent 1.5 hours fixing her dentures when the other dentists just said there was not much they could do. He also charged a very reasonable price. He is my hero. read more

They were also very accommodating since I came in a few mins late (big place. walked into the wrong office) and they were closing at 5. I was very surprised to see the other review on this page was so positive, especially in regards to his rude, nasty office staff. I don't have any real complaints about the dental care I received from Dr Davis himself, but the horrible woman he has running his front office made every appointment a misery. Going to the dentist is stressful enough without being barked at and listening to other other people be barked at while you wait. There are many good dentists in the Santa Barbara area, and it's very easy to find one who hires polite and sensible staff. In other words, look elsewhere for your dental needs, its not worth the hassle read more

I write a lot of food reviews, and not many doctor, psychiatrist, or dental reviews, frankly because 99% of them terrify me. But Rick Davis has been THE BEST breath of fresh air. I have not been to the dentist in a long time, and I am experiencing TMJ from the amount of stress in my life. He is so sweet, kind hearted, and a truly caring and generous man. I got a mouth guard, and he sent it back and worked on it until it was absolutely perfect for my mouth. Also while he was fitting me for it, I mentioned how self conscious I have been for years of one of my two front teeth being longer than the other. He fixed it on the spot for me. People- I am the individual who had to take 10mg Valium to simply get me into the car to go to my old dentist. Rick made me feel safe, which speaks volumes. Oh, and his wife is a yoga zen master who saves lives of people with personal struggles. That's one powerful couple, that gives a lot to this community. GO SEE HIM! read more

Shame on the ones who posted the recent arrest of Dr Richard Davis. This is alleged charges he hasn't been found quilty in a court of law. Until u saw these allegations u were probably very happy with his services and even recommended him to others. I've been going to Dr. Rick for many years and will continue to do so. He has been the best dentist I've ever been to and never once did he act unprofessional or show signs of being on any type of drugs. And u find it ok to try and ruin he livelihood by posting alleged charges on this site. Like I said, shame on u. He's probably better off without u cutthroat patients. Just wanted to say what a great experience I had with Dr. Davis and his staff last week. Everything they did was to make me comfortable (and they could tell I get freaked out at the dentist!). Ultimately I had to have a tooth extracted, but Dr. Davis removed it quickly with no pain. You guys are the best! read more

Dr. Davis is a highly qualified dentist with integrity, compassion and a great sense of humor! I had major structural work done on all of my upper teeth in order to strengthen the core which enabled me to keep my teeth. it involved crowns and bridges and lots of detail work including gum work. They look unbelievable and not a day passes without someone commenting how beautiful and natural my teeth look. I am not afraid to smile anymore! I drove 350 miles one way from the SF Bay Area for several months to his office because he is the best and yet, reasonably priced! It was well worth the trip and I would do it again in a heart beat. He was supportive, caring and very receptive to my needs. He did not hesitate to come to his office on a Friday night at 10 p.m. to help secure a crown. His office has state of the art equipment making every visit extremely efficient and every procedure spot on with the most modern equipment and techniques. Dr. Davis was always considerate in making sure I did not experience any pain. There was always concern for my comfort and convenience. He is a perfectionist and was thorough in discussing each procedure beforehand. Not only was he professional and accommodating, but one of the friendliest, dentists I have ever met. It is obvious he absolutely loves his job! This is a wonderful office! Everyone in this office is very friendly, cheerful and excellent at their job. I truly feel that everyone has the patients' best interest at heart. It was always a pleasant experience to work with all of them. Dr. Davis set me on the road to better dental health and for that I am grateful. If you are in need of a competent Dentist and Staff, want a great experience and leave with an amazing smile, don't walk, but RUN to Dr. Richard Davis. We have been seeing Dr Davis for about 7 years. His good nature is about all that is good. 2 family members had fillings this past spring and both ended up with TMJ issues. He works too fast and rough. After a week of migraine, sickness and pain in the entire right side of head all he did was prescribe pain meds. Would not admit this was caused by the dental work but suggested that it was probably a bug. The headache began literally withing an hour of the fillings. The front desk woman, Diane - yes she is very experienced in the administrative side of dentistry but when you call to complain about pain or anything 'dental' she is very protective of him and denies that anything was done wrong. Sorry but 2 of us have had serious pain for the past several months and no one has called back to see how we are doing or given any advice other than 'wear a night guard'. She is quick to get you off the phone with your 'non-urgent' complaints. I have actually called the office and the Dr answered the phone and was more helpful himself than she was. Still having pain and other issues. Coming from a background of a family of dentists, we are pretty sure we know what went wrong and will not be going back to Dr Davis. read more

I was recommended to Dr. Davis by my sister. I usually hate going to the dentist just like everyone else but I really enjoyed this dentist office. The front desk lady handled all of my insurance and you could tell she had a lot of experience. The hygienist is super sweet and did a great job on my cleaning. I met Dr. Davis when he came in for my exam and he was so nice and easy to talk with. Usually dentist offices are quiet and awkward but I felt like I wanted to hang out there. I didn't mind at all when I had to get my fillings done. Dr. Davis even gave me his cell number to call if there was any problems over the weekend. Overall I think this is a great dentist office to go to with amazing staff that educate you on your mouth and dentistry in a friendly way. read more
